great machine, one of the best I've seen.

Put some greage on the slider also you can place a degree template on the bottom of the die to get the same degree everytime, for multiple identical bends. If your pipe holder clamp is slipping you can use sand or metal dust from a brake lathe and apply some oil to the clamp then the dust. It will make it grip. But other then those tips, great machine.

you mean return. there is a steel cable warped around the main shaft and other end of the cable has spring to pull it back

what causes the chain drive to return when the ram in retracted?

Beach&BoardFan is imagine some sort of clock spring under the die being it rolls up on a sprocket under it.
