    I haven't used modeling paste before and I definitely don't need to spend more on craft supplies. ( At least that's what the hubby thinks.) We live way out in the middle of nowhere so going to a craft store is super inconvenient. I can just run around the corner to the little mom and pop convenience store for baby power so I REALLY appreciate this video. Thanks so much!😊❤

    @@SandpaperRoad hi good day, is this paste recipe slow to dry? Like the ceramic powder or marble powder somebody said they are slow to dry?

  • @SandpaperRoad

    This paste recipe dries fully within a few hours, but again, this is a “makeshift” DIY texture paste, meant for crafters to use while experimenting with techniques. You can use a heat gun to speed up the drying process as well. Hope this helps!

    Just be mindful that this is NOT designed to be something that holds or bonds items together. It’s designed to push through a stencil and adhere to paper or cardstock. Mainly for paper crafting- to use in a pinch or for trying new mixed media techniques without wasting expensive texture paste during crafting experiments. Hope this helps, and thanks for the comment! 😊

    Hello I’ve just caught this what a fantastic idea I am trying to find a modelling paste in the uk that’s safe for children six year old I assume I can make this and it’s safe to use and when looking at modelling paste they say they’re non toxic but they got bit in which may cause allergic reactions so didn’t want to change it so is this safer if hands on or touched.

  • @SandpaperRoad

    @SandpaperRoad

    I am no expert, but I would assume it’s safe for children… all the individual ingredients are safe and non-toxic, although I wouldn’t necessarily let it get into the kids’ mouth or eyes. But for common allergies, if they can handle kids’ school glue and regular cheap acrylic paint without issue you should be just fine. Thanks for watching! 😊👍

  • @SandpaperRoad

    Yes it will keep in an air-tight container, but not nearly as long as the “real” store-bought texture paste lasts. I think mine lasts around three or four weeks, in moderate temperature/humidity. Thanks for asking!

    Is adding water a no-no, cause I added some to my baby powder mix because it was to thick and chalky and it became like starch with water, you know, when ya hit it, it's hard like rock but when stirred gently it's very runny. Why did this happen when I didn't use starch, but used baby powder which is talcum I thought???

  • @SandpaperRoad

    @SandpaperRoad

    3 ай бұрын

    Check your baby powder ingredients… some baby powders are “talc-free” or made with corn starch instead. This would most likely explain the issue.

  • @SandpaperRoad

    16 күн бұрын

    It doesn’t HAVE to be matte or color paint, but for BEST RESULTS use the matte white paint. The reason being is that matte white paint is best for experimenting with stencil and paste techniques… which is what this DIY paste is made for… Hope you have good success and good luck 😊

    Can we use this texture paste directly on walls? Will it last?

  • @SandpaperRoad

    @SandpaperRoad

    6 ай бұрын

    No, no, I wouldn’t do that at all. This is a makeshift homemade “mock” texture paste for trying out papercraft techniques- designed for crafters who aren’t sure if they want to spend the money on “actual” texture paste yet. Or for crafters who are trying new techniques and don’t want to waste their good texture paste. Not designed for walls at all. Hope this helps. 😊

  • @SandpaperRoad

    @SandpaperRoad

    5 ай бұрын

    This paste is just meant as a makeshift paste to try mixed media techniques without wasting your good quality supplies on trial-and-error techniques. This DIY paste isn’t meant to last a long time or perform like a good quality paste. I get cracking when I use it too. It just helps me practice techniques before I actually go ahead with them. Hope this helps. 😊

    MAY I ASK IF THIS HOLDS UP AS WELL AS REG MODELING PASTE, DOES IT FLAKE OFF OR PEEL OFF ETC? THANK YOU

  • @SandpaperRoad

    @SandpaperRoad

    5 ай бұрын

    It does NOT hold up as well as regular modeling paste. Depending on how thick you spread it through a stencil, it can last up to 2 years without flaking off. But after that (and especially in dry climates), it WILL start to flake and peel. It’s really meant more for people to experiment with techniques without wasting your good quality modeling paste. Hope this helps, and thanks for the comment! 😊

    THANK YOU@@SandpaperRoad YES THAT HELPS A LOT AND YOUR REPLY IS MUCH APPRECIATED. QUESTION: ONCE I SET THE DIY PASTE ON MY PROJECT AND SEAL IT WITH GESSO, GLUED EMBELLISHMENTS AND PAINT, WILL THAT PROLONG ITS QUALITY?

  • @SandpaperRoad

    Actually, I can surely say “YES” - all the “toppings” definitely prolong the quality of this DIY paste. I just five minutes ago came across a card I made 5 years ago with this very paste (plus gesso, ink, paint, etc), and its quality is TRULY the same now as it was then. Good luck and enjoy! 😊

  • @SandpaperRoad

    You can try it and see, but I have the feeling that this makeshift paste will act more like an absorbent ground than a gesso when it comes to oil paints.

  • @SandpaperRoad

    @SandpaperRoad

    I would NOT use this paste in a piping bag. And yes, it does crack after a few months. This is meant to be a quick, makeshift paste meant for experimenting with stencil techniques (so you don’t have to waste your good paste on trying new techniques). Hope this helps!

    Is the Acrylic paint necessary?

  • @SandpaperRoad

    @SandpaperRoad

    6 ай бұрын

    I’ve never tried to make it without using matte acrylic paint, so I’m not sure if it’s “necessary”, but I imagine the compounds in the paint add a certain finishing agent that you wouldn’t get from just the glue and powder. Give it a try without the paint, and let me know how it goes! 😊

    Mixing with acrylic color leads to disaster. Texture paste designed for acrylic painting are not containing glue. Glue do not mix with painting, drying time is different,

    Don't use a matte paint brand because it is so dry and your texture after it dries it will crack. Try different good quality acrylic paint .

  • @SandpaperRoad

    @SandpaperRoad

    19 сағат бұрын

    Acrylic paint creates a resist effect when trying texture paste techniques with a stencil. To avoid the resist effect when experimenting, definitely use matte paint to make this “faux” texture paste. The paint doesn’t need to be good quality, because this is just a quick makeshift DIY paste to experiment with crafting techniques.
