DIY Swimming Pool - 9 x 14 Easy & Cheap!

Follow this easy above ground DIY Swimming Pool build. This entire build cost under $250 with the mast majority of that going to the foam lining and the rubber vinyl lining for the actual pool! Best yet, the pool is fairly easy to build and doesn't require too many carpentry concepts or skills and can be adapted for any size pool you want.
My kids have been swimming in our pool for several days and can't get enough! I built my pool the maximum size (assuming around a 39 inch wall height) for the cheapest vinyl liner I could find. The liner used is actually from a used billboard material and is 16 x 20 feet. Most all of the wood and lumber used for the project was snagged for free at construction sites scrap piles.

I never imagined that a simple wooden frame could hold that much water weight. Amazing. It would be a great follow-up to see the kids splashing around, having fun in the pool. :) Thanks for showing your process.

as a kid back around 1964, in Rhode Island in the middle of the winter, my dad laid out some wood on the ground, just 2x 3s or something, not very high. He got some plastic tarps and filled it with water a few inches high. The next day we had an ice rink. I remember we had those kid skates that had dual blades and were almost like cheap roller skates. Was not playing hockey at the time and I don't remember sliding around the ice much. But Dad tried. RIP to a WW 2 veteran. 1927-2006. Do NOT smoke. His last years he could not even walk up one step, not one flight of stairs, I mean one stair. No oxygen transfer capability at all. He would otherwise easily have lived into his 90s as our family seems to be very long lived

Those corner pieces where you cut the 45 degree piece out....If you have 2 pieces of wood that are the same size, (2 x 6), cut the 45 degree slot in BOTH pieces, the longer piece cut from the top down exactly half way. and the shorter piece cut from the bottom up exactly half way, the two pieces will lock together, and you wouldnt have had that slipping problem where you had to drain the pool some.

We had a pool like this it was 30'x20' half round posts in the ground and i think aluminum (or steel idk) sheets and blue rubber melted/glued in the middle. Sand underneith, and a concrete path up against it. It stood strong for 20 years when it was decided it would be better to put a vege garden there. Many people swam in that pool.

For that device to warm up the pool if you put it your roof, with some black tubing going from it back to the filter it will work. Instead of buying a heater in NY my dad is an engineer and designed a complete black pvc pipe system that coiled on the roof. Had it setup somehow to turn it on and off. Our 10 ft deep pool would be warmer than any other even the above ground weeks earlier around that perfect 86%. Than any type of fountain at night to cool it down when it would get to hot.

Damn interesting idea though which I will look into as I buy my Florida retirement home. I will do a quick stress calculation to see how much water depth these panels really could safely take without cross braces just to double check on things. I would do a bit more than just pound stakes into the ground to help with the bulging. I would take a little time to dig and pour some concrete posts there with a bracket set into the top and that would allow you to more firmly anchor things and connect to the sides

Did you ever think of using old carpet for padding the liner? It would probably be more cushony. They get rid of lots of those new scraps at construction sites too! Maybe the thinner type might be best to resist pokes into the liner. But maybe there is a disadvantage I'm not thinking of (like will it smell bad after getting wet)? It wouldn't deteriorate like the foam.

Edit issue. I would use a tripod since for the majority of the video a viewer is only seeing plywood close ups

should cushion or rubber dip the end of those cross ribs to minimize chances of cutting or ripping the liner

@@ginam6691 Everyone says use pallets but my expeience has been that they are very rough and impossible to disassemble if you need to. Maybe I am not doing it right but I find there is alot of waste and they are more work than they are worth. You can rarely get them for free anymore either.

Beautiful effort. However. You already have a level concrete pad. For what you spent, not including your labor, you could have purchased a plug and play pool, with a filter and cover for the same price, if not less.

@@cmullenmusic Walmart. I went up to a 18 foot round pool, 4 and a half deep two years ago and only spent $300.00 and got the cover, filter, a spare filter and for $20.00 more, got the vacuum to clean it. For a 9x14, even at Wally world, it shouldn't run you more than $50.00 or so and it's inflatable, so you can break it down for easy storage. The key to ALL of these pools? LEVEL GROUND.
