DIY Soldering Iron from PENCIL

In this video I show how I turned a pencil into a temporary soldering iron. It works because the graphite of the pencil is conductive. When a current passes through it, it heats up enough to melt solder. This project is for fun and educational purpose (or if you really need to solder something) but the pencil won’t last more than a few solders.
I wore safety glasses the entire time and I would not have even thought to attempt this without wearing them.

This is super amazing
I didn't try but could be cleaner to weld with the opposite head of the pencil. In that case you can also re-sharp the edge if it gets consumed or damaged (maybe I'm wrong and it won't work).

Три раза грифель обламывал на этапе нанесения углублений под провода... В итоге я всё-таки смог!!! Всё получилось!! Работает шикарно!!! Моя первая в жизни самоделка)))) спасибо за всё)))

can the block say 9.0V - 1.67 A or 5.0V - 2.0 A?
This did with too large of an output and the graphite exploded, 10/10.
It's safety or danger? I need this and i don't have heat shrink tube

Pls reply 🙏 I make the same thing and it's getting to hot but when I want like to solder a resistor or a capacitor it didn't solder the iron from the board why I used a 12v 1 amps charger

The voltage is too high it might have melted some plastic on the copper wires. It only works with a 5V charger. It could also be that the wires aren’t wrapped tight enough around the pencil. Also it needs to be a HB pencil. And you have to wait a good minute for it to heat up.

Usually when it doesn’t work it’s because of a loose connection. Make sure the wires are wrapped around tight. You also need to leave it turn on for about a minute to heat up! Keep testing to solder every few seconds and eventually it should work!

How manny amps is the adapter??? Is the pencil hb? Mine stuffed up. Also the wire went red hot. Also lead smoke is Toxic so be careful peeps.

Nope it works with just a pencil :) It lasts longer with the tube though!

Are you sure you’re using a HB pencil? Different grades have different conductivity

It's not that powerful unless the metals you are talking about have a very very low melting point.

Depends on the graphite in the pencil. Try a different kind of pencil. Some graphite is more resistant.
Its so cool but why safety goggles are needed?

Because the battery was hooked up to itself so it made a hot surface that can be used for soldering. If the wires are wrapped around each other though, you get a welding tool.

why it does not work?? i am use old usb cable (i did open this cable and used red and black) and pencil HB-2 . and connected to my lapptop then im wait 5 minets then nothing happend .... i need help please
