Are they hand made ceramic tiles on your roof? How old is your house?

Alan H, yes. Well they are hand made clay tiles. Probably salvaged from another building before ours. Our house was built in 1940 and they are much older than 80 years old (so I am reliably informed).

I have to say that these solar panels look awful! The clay tiles look so much better, and for the tiny amount of power produced it seems hardly worth making your lovely house look hideous, the cost involved in putting this monstrosity on your roof will hardly be returned by the time the units fail, have you considered that ? Why not put the panels in your garden if you must have these things.

Englishman French, this side of the roof is not seen. I know we are in a sunny spell at the moment but we are producing 11kw a day and using a total of 15kw. So it’s producing about 2/3 of what we use. The month before install we were using about £4.40 per day and it’s now down to something around £1.60 ish by last calculation over several days. It’s not all about the money. The set up cost me £2200 plus my time. Even being conservative it should pay for itself in about six years. The system I purchased is quality and warranted for 25 years. In summer we use electricity to heat the water via an immersion element. We have not had this on at all since the panel install and the water is hot and only heated by the solar panels. I’m happy with the results so far. Winter May be a different story. :-)
