Mate. Those stairs are AWESOME. I’m just about to start my own build and ran across your videos today.

Your prob done by now but I would just put a suspension lock up system in the back end of the truck and then the only movement would be in the tyre side walls which would be minimal. Cool video mate... I'm watching in NZ

Mechanical engineer here. Gotta say, I absolutely love the "jump on it and rock it back and forth" method of evauating structural stiffness and deflection.

Great to see you back at it. I am building a food truck with a 14' box (from scratch) on a 1967 C40 Chassis. I have wavered back and forth over doing a small slide out to gain more floor space. Your version kept popping up in my head and just the other day I watched your other video on the slide out and was 90% sure I'm doing it. After watching this its 100% Thank you for posting these, I don't think the average person realizes just what a PIA it is to do the work and take time to record it.

Awesome build. I was looking for inspiration to put a slide out on a much smaller van so this build is perfect to watch. I don't think you would have to put the support legs on the slide out directly, I think this could actually cause the channels on the slide out to ware quicker as it will be holding the weight of the wind hitting the truck. You could look at fitting them under the main body. If you use the big hydraulic ones you could even use it to level it out which would be useful.

Hi Dan, one of the biggest causes of flex that you overlooked is the Stainless "C" channel will flare open [with load] near the outside entrance over time. This is why USA slide outs rails are inside square tubing. You will need to remove those "K" braces on the slide out and box the "C" channels.

I have been so eager to see THIS build in particular.... the way you did the door was genius... and I'm STILL trying to figure out how you'll make this slide out AND pop up and down. I didn't realize you had to solve this additional support problem also. Anyway.... I'm glued to this build and I've been eager to see how you complete it. Can't wait to see it progress to being finished.

great solution. its a long time since you done this but id be looking to support to box and not the slide out room. you support just the room and you have all the weight of the box pivoting on the slide mechanism itself. IMO make support legs for the truck box and allow the slide out room to hang.

I just discovered your channel and I think your truck build is very interresting, although I haven’t watched all of the videos yet. Good idea to add a support leg to stabilize it. What’s the extension going to be used for? Bathroom is my first guess, to allow for easy drainage away from the main body of the vehicle. Or do you have another plan for it?

Dan, think about "feets" of estabilization on the truck, to estabilize all the truck, and not only the slide out.

Hi Dan, how about powered RVJacks on the chassis like a lot of RVs have. You could tie it into the electrical for the slide out so as it goes out the Jacks go down and support the whole vehicle. Just a thought.

Horizontal and vertical members only=deflection. A few diagonal members in the frame itself stops deflection more effeciently than adding supports all over the place.
