DIY Sheet metal rust repairs on a '98 Nissan Elgrand E50 - Welding Sills, Chassis and Arches

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I delve into the world of Nissan E50 Elgrand rust. I bought the car knowing it had rust issues but man did I not think they would be this bad. I wouldnt have bought the car if I had known!
I've never done sheet metal work (welding anything thinner than 1mm), and did all of this in my garage on the floor on my back. All with hand tools and a hydraulic press for some of the bigger panels.
Sheet metal welding on body panels is slow work, you have to weld using a series of tacks, with lots of waiting between them to allow the metal to cool, instead of welding in beads, otherwise you WILL warp the metal. Which makes for some crappy looking welds, instead of nice beads. I'm not great at welding but a lot of these welds look like garbage, thats a combination of; building up welds from tacks, me not being a great welder, welding upside down with no space between the floor and the car, and straight up not being able to see what I'm welding in some cases, essentially welding entire panels with my eyes close. So I know I'm going to get comments about the quality of my welding.
To the inevitable trolls I say: you do some sheet metal body work, dont warp the panel, record it and upload it, and see if its any better than mine. Then you can complain about my welds.
This video represents probably 100+ hours of work, months in total as I struggle to work on it for long periods of time. I had over 6 hours worth of footage, from these short 5 second clips, and edited it down as best I could to almost an hour.
Lots and lots of parts are missed out for the sake of time, times between clips could represents 8+ hours of work in some cases. Or times where I cant hold my phone whilst doing something important.
I'm no expert but feel free to ask any questions in the comments

Amazing work! I'm enjoying watching your video, picking up tips along the way, but it's also giving me fears about mine 😬
