    Thanks for the idea! I had some extra canvas material laying around and I ended up making a cover for one of my spinning reels out of it. I still like your idea better with the koozies, that's genius. I think I'm going to make some kind of hybrid with canvas and koozies for my other three spinning rods. If I would've found this channel sooner I probably wouldn't have bought covers for my bait casters. Also thanks for making videos like this in general. You have a lot of cool ideas and I like DIY projects.

    Great DIY. I will be doing a bunch of these up for my rigs. I’ll probably look for two different colors so I can visually tell what pound line I have on a particular rig. Three additional ideas for the DIY: 1. Little dab of plasti-dip on the back of the snaps and you will not scratch up the reel. 2. If you use Barge contact cement you can glue up the ends instead of sewing it (or glue and sew), and use the cement to attach the Velcro. 3. Don’t forget to tag stitch the end you cut the excess off of so the seam does not unravel (or contact cement it).

  • @FishinNStuff

    @FishinNStuff

    4 жыл бұрын

    I did tag stitch and forgot too film it . And believe it or not I started to try glue lol . Your right about the button but I would prefer the velcro. Theres less chance of tearing out the neoprene

    Hey Keith - LOVE your videos! On using snaps instead of hook and loop (Velcro).... As a leather worker, I use those snaps a lot. Soooooo, if you take a thin piece of leather of some kind and put it behind the kozi material, it will keep the snap from poking through when you clamp it down. Try it! I think you'll find it's AWESOME!!! Tight lines and screamin' reels!!!! (Oh... And I tie flies too, so I'll be trying to find some tips to help with those type of hacks as well...)

    If you could measure your can cosies ( stubby coolers where I’m from ) before putting in your slit cut you could use the off cut to put over a spoil of line to keep it tidy & stop it from getting knocked around as well as unspoiling

    To prevent the snaps from tearing the material you can cut some disks out of a milk jug and use them as washers. Being hdpe it won't scratch up the reel then.

    Slick idea and I'm going to try a couple on my latest round reels just for fun. I will disclose that some of my favorite rigs are scarred, scratched, and dented and priceless memories to me. An ounce of prevention...? Never considered that but I am now. Will the coozie work with an ABU 7000? Clearly works with the 4/5/6 series and I have an ancient late 90's 7000B in lovely green with gold trim that I've treated very gently. I would consider a commercial product but the DIY would be an afternoon's entertainment on a rainy day and equally cool as the beat up gear that I treasure. TIA and thanks for the inspiration. 3 new reels in the 6000 series should be fairly easy. Just curious if you if you tried a 7000 series?
