I used pneumatic clamps a fair amount in my shop. For a protective tip, I used rubber tips, kind of like crutch tips, but they were designed for furniture or metal legs. (Foggy memory) The tips come in different sizes and slipped on the threaded ends of my clamps perfectly. They are available at the local hardware store & it took years for one to wear out.

Cool project David... ! I have a big pile of Pneumatics laying around, really need to find some time to play with it more... I have the luxury to have my lady working at SMC Pneumatics so sometimes i get some samples or old stock.. Time time time.. where to find it :)
