    I’ve been looking at different ways to attach my beam to the playhouse I’m building. Yours looks very straightforward. How has it held over the years?

    Any ideas on how to water seal the top?

  • @LazyGuyDIY

    Depends on how crazy you want to go. The simplest solution is to run some plastic or metal roofing underneath with a slight grade with spacers and then have it channel into a gutter. What complicates that is if you get a lot of leaves and such that come down in between the boards and then it clogs up. Then you get sitting water and then the bugs that come along with it because you can't access it to clear it out. So to avoid that altogether you'd just need to use an exterior grade subfloor below the top floor with a slight grade for drainage to keep the water out. It can get costly and cause new problems, so I just avoided it.

    Great build! I'm building one in a few weeks for my kids. What kind of lag bolt are you using?

  • @LazyGuyDIY

    @LazyGuyDIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Mostly 1/2" x 4-1/2" -5" lag screws (depending on what was available) and then 1/2" by 8" carriage bolts when I needed to run all the way through the 6x6's and a 2x support.

    Nice project… Do you have any idea what the approximate cost of this was? (Materials) Did it take you two days or two weeks??... I like the fact that adults can swing on it too..... i’m in the process of researching whether I should do my own, or buy one of these kits… Most of the kits seem flimsy to me....

  • @LazyGuyDIY

    @LazyGuyDIY

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Cost is roughly between $1,000 and $1500 including all materials and accessories. When comparing prices for the pre-made ones that start at $1400 and go up, but only last about a year or two, it was a no brainer to build my own that will last for years given the materials and the assembly. For build time, it took me real time two weeks to build, but only because it was completely a solo build and basically during kid naps. Two weekends with a helper and it should be reasonable.

    I just ordered the swings with a 66" chains, how far off the ground should I be off the ground so the kids won't hit the ground or what do you recommend?

  • @LazyGuyDIY

    @LazyGuyDIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Really depends on the kid honestly and how tall they are so their feet as just barely off the ground when they sit. You want them to be short enough still to be able to hop on by themselves.

    is there another way to do it vs the concrete and anchors, to not make so permanent? incase I ever want to move it one day? you think those 6x6 ground spikes would work?

  • @LazyGuyDIY

    @LazyGuyDIY

    4 жыл бұрын

    Due to the size and weight of this thing, you wouldn't be able to move without a forklift honestly. I know from my lumber order it was around a ton and a half of lumber. But if your ground is level to begin with, the spikes should work just fine. If you're more worried about tearing it down later and don't want to pour deep footers, your big box stores sell concrete pier blocks. It's a solid 12"x8"x12" block that sells for $5 each. You can inset those into the ground and then drill and add a post anchor and bolt into.

    I don’t have two full sized kids swinging on it at the same time, but even with both my little kids swinging on it, or one full sized adult there’s zero rocking. With the 4x6 bracketed onto the playhouse, it eliminates the rocking effect a double a-frame swing set would have.

    How hard would it be to build this for someone with no wood working experience?

  • @LazyGuyDIY

    @LazyGuyDIY

    4 жыл бұрын

    The techniques are pretty basic as far as cutting material and assembling the playhouse. It's the size of the material from the posts to the sheets of plywood that add a slight difficulty factor, but with a helper it should be manageable for most skill levels.
