Today we are building a DIY pig waterer for our Kune Kune Gilts. We were able to obtain the waterers for $2 at a yard sale and already had the 55 gallon food grade drums. We only bought the gravity fed valve. Now we need to teach Eleanor and Fiona how to use it. We plan to put peanut butter on the paddle so they press it to get water.

You might want to make sure the lid isn't air tight so the waterer will have flow. If it is air tight it will draw a vacuum and won't let the water flow.

Thanks for the feed back. I probably should have mentioned this in the video. There are two holes in the lid that have plugs. The plugs are not in just sitting on top. So that’s how we prevented the vacuum issue. Great catch!

Pigs are smart. They figure out that if they hold that valve open they can create a nice mud puddle to wallow in.

Nice pig waterer and what beautiful pigs 🐷 we have old spots but if I’d seen yours first we may had bin convinced love the waddles 🤙🏻

Thanks. Can you believe they never used that waterer??? They just wouldn’t do it. So went to a stock tank instead. Aw old spots are cool. Yeah the waddles are so soft too. Have a great day!

It's been 2yrs now. How's the watering system working?

The system worked well. The issue we had was in winter we have to switch to a stock tank with a tank heater. It proved challenging to switch the pigs back to the waterer after they were using the stock tank since our winters are long.
