DIY PHOTOS ON BOOK & DICTIONARY PAGES : image transfer technique | Mixed media on canvas

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Instead of buying cool vintage art prints that are printed on book or dictionary pages, we are going to diy and make them from scratch. We are going to use image and photo transfer (fototransfer)
All you need is a book or dictionary page, essential oil (such as eucalyptus or wintergreen oil), laser or photocopy print of your image, canvas, watercolor paints and distress ink.
we are going to transfer our image on the book page and then mount it on canvas and make it look old vintage with distress ink.

OMGratitude! Oh! MY! GRATITUDE! I have been looking for this exact tutorial! I actually have a book (that came w/a CD) with hundreds of vintage clip art…from place settings to farm implements to office equipment. Until my husband committed suicide by hanging, I did not know that “hanged” is only used in regard to suicide. Otherwise you hung the picture. The outstanding piece of art you made look easy is ready to be hung. Thank you! Thank you! This is perfection, as well as pure generosity on your part! Now I am off to check out your book on Amazon!

I love this but I wouldn't use eucalyptus oil because I have an adorable dog. I found this on the Internet: "It is suitable for humans to use for a variety of purposes, but not suitable for the animals such as cats and dogs. In addition to that, the eucalyptus essential oil is considered toxic and poisonous for pet animals." I would research what essential oil I could use and keep Scout safe! I love your videos!

Thank you for this information. Maybe you can check out lemon, citrus or orange oils? Usually they cost more than eucalyptus, but they all work fine for image transfer. Also check out Citrasolv which is house cleaning product made from essential oils and it also works fine. Good luck 👍

Your hand-coloring is beautiful. I'm sure you know, but if you transfer onto glass, you can hand-tint from behind. Such beautiful projects always. I just wish I had access to all of the printers so I could do all of the techniques!!

@@NitsaCreativeStudio you're welcome. Also, I just tried some markers today on a transfer an they worked beautifully to "hand tint" photos. But folks have to remember that to hand tint photos, they have to do it from the back side. Makes it a bit harder because any paper still on the transfer will block the color. BTW, I have alcohol inks that are also transparent and they didn't work well at all. They adhere to the layer below, regardless of what that layer is, and you can't take it off, even with 91% alcohol. Comes off of Yupo, but not anything else apparently. To hand-tint photos from the back side, stick to transparent markers or use a glazing medium. If you don't like the glaze, you can wipe it off before it dries. Alcohol ink dries almost instantly, so you can't remove it. Lesson learned.

  • @NitsaCreativeStudio

The laser toner is archival so you only need to protect it if you paint it. And then it depends on the paints you used, so you match the varnish to whatever you used 👍

Have you ever used the bypass tray to send bookpage through your laser printer? I expect it would be like printing on tracing paper if the paper is very thin and it might need to be taped onto a regular weight sheet.
