DIY Photography Backdrop - Hand Painted Canvas

Custom hand painted Canvas for under $100. In this video, I painted my own canvas for my photography studio much like Unique backdrops, Gravity backdrops or Oliphant backdrops that cost up too 8X more to create a Vanity Fair magazine styled shoot.

    I've been wanting to make my own for a while now, but went out and bought a drop cloth from Home Depot and figure I'd see what it'd turn out like if I were to let it soak in a bucket of paint and water mix. Heavier on the paint than water. Ring it out let it dry and iron out the wrinkles and add splotches/texture after. I'm hoping that letting it soak would be a faster way to apply the overall background color. It's in the washer now to knock out the creases and loose fabric. I'll let you know how it turns out!

    Cool video. Thanks for sharing. What kind of finish did the paint have? Matte or satin, eggshell maybe? Do you find if you run your hand across the canvas it that the paint gets a grey cast or is the paint locked in place? Is the canvas very stiff or easy to work with? Did you add sealer on top of the paint? Have you find the canvas gets dirty quickly? Have you tried spot cleaning it?

  • @EddieMerino

    @EddieMerino

    I used Matte, it doesn't become grey when touched and the canvas is very flexible but still tough. I've had it for over a year now and have used it about 15 times and store it in my closet so never gets dirty. I haven't cleaned it but will let you know if I ever do.
