    Jan, really good video about placing , and cutting out a pattern. Great instruction, information about how to lengthen, or shorten the pant leg. ( I always have had to shorten mine.) You even show how to measure to the selvage line, to make sure the grainline is straight. I learned these skills from my mother and I appreciate you still teaching the "right" way. (they way I was taught, anyway!)Many of the videos I have watched cut the notches into the seamline, rather than outward? One more tip learned from Mom- when you are sewing the "hole" left for the elastic. add a piece of ribbon or some type of tag to identify the back of the pants. Makes it much easier when you are putting them on.

    I also use the pants pattern to make muslin pantaloons to wear under my long dresses or skirts in the summer instead of wearing a slip. Living in a very windy area like Kansas, when the wind blows up your skirt or dress, someone will only see something that looks like clown pants. I sew some narrow elastic an inch from the hem. They are cute for all ages of girls and women. 🤡

    I made a few pairs of pajama pants 3 years ago. Then last month I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, and put on meds that make me gain weight. It’s because I was 98lbs from the unknown Graves’ disease when I made those pajama pants. The anti thyroid meds only put you back to the weight you used to be before graves. Now I have to make new ones in a larger size. I always have to adjust the crotch curve on the pants patterns to fit the butt that people say I don’t have.

    This was a Simplicity pattern. I wasn't 100% thrilled with it and tried to design my own, but I don't have time right now to do that. Wish I could direct you to a decent pattern. There are a lot of free pattern online and youtube vids showing how to make your own pattern from an existing pair of sweat pants or comfy pants. So many vids and patterns to construct, but so little time. Most patterns are workable especially if they are just baggy pj pants. Let me know if you find one that works well.

    You said you cut each piece one at a time. Can the back piece and the front piece be cut twice? And do they have to be right sides together on the front and the back pattern pieces?

  • @JanHowell

    @JanHowell

    Жыл бұрын

    If cutting two at a time, say of the front piece. The fabric needs to right sides together or wrong sides together. If you don't, you'll have two front pieces facing the same direction. You need a left & right piece. I hope that makes sense. The only reason I cut one at a time is because I was lining up the stripes and plaid.

    Not on this pair. Because of the pocket, you have to sew a separate front and back. On my child pattern, there is just one piece that includes the front and back. kzread.info/dash/bejne/goiHlKuhpLK5pKg.html

    Hello Jan. I am Wanda and a new subscriber. My husband asked me to make him pajama bottoms but instead of elastic he wants draw strings. It looks as if I can do exactly as you have done here but add draw string, Do you agree?

    If you want a drawstring, you'll need to create some holes in the front center casing. You could sew two button holes before you flip and sew the casing. I hope that makes sense. Looks like another tutorial needs to be made for drawstring. Let me know how it goes.

    This was a simplicity pattern. S9202 Honestly, I wasn't' 100% thrilled with it. I was in the middle of making my own pattern but don't have the time right now to finish it so I resorted to this. There are a lot of free patterns online out there, and ways you can design your own pattern from an existing pair of pants or sweats on KZread you may want to check out. Let me know if you find a good one. This pattern is doable.

    Sorry, but I can't remember what the original questions was or find you last comment. If you want to ask the question again that would be helpful.
