This was another "fun to watch it run" item at ERRF. Smart people designing a cost-effective system that has a practical purpose right down to the controller for the re-flow toaster oven. And to be able to do it at a small fraction of the cost of industrial pick and place systems is awesome!

I liked his enthusiasm a lot. I also always wondered, how do people make money with open source projects, but it's basically... laziness. :) Selling the already built machines is worth it for many.

For someone like me, a kit where I print the parts is always ideal. I don’t have access to all the parts locally, so getting them from abroad from all different countries would be much more expensive

That's a cool Thinga-ma-jig ya got there. I think it's a little interesting that not much has been discussed on the reflow oven. Yes, it's a toaster. But you'll notice the controller box with a screen and graph next to it. That is a 3rd party device and when my friends were talking with him, he went in great detail about it because apparently the are hard to come by. So the stencil is industry standard and probably doesn't need as much explanation because of that, the machine handles the pick and place, and then... well you gotta reflow it. Good luck. It's like getting a car, putting fuel in it, and then going "hmm... how do I drive?" A step is missing, I would be surprised if it wasn't on the site, but there's now been maybe 4-5 videos on this machine at ERRF and it looks awesome but it's strange that he hasn't thrown in more info about the reflow controller as he's mentioned everything else.

That is a good point, he *kind* of mentioned it with the “temperature curve” bit, but basically you get a relay, a thermometer, and an Arduino etc and let it run the optimal profile. There are numerous other Open Source designs out there, i can dig and see if he did a specific video on it. Do check out his KZread channel too.

@@ericlotze7724 I don't but my friends have been following this project for a long time and we're enthusiastic enough that when they found out it was the same project, they actually shoved Tom3d out of the way (who was there taking b-roll) so they could get a better look. They talked about it for a while and in depth. The methodology is easy to get and again, I'm sure there are many ways to do it. He seemed really enthusiastic about the controller he had and was recommending it whole heartedly as their favorite system... And then every video: squat. So it stood out as odd to me.
