Yes! I have been putting off a project for too long. Converting a dehumidifier to a smart humidifier. Basically hijacking its control board and ether replace it with my own or just hijack the screen and buttons to put a device in the middle.

Thankfully, you're super-smart and always use a breadboard to prototype your circuits. :) I have a pair of studio reference phones I want to try this on. Great video. And it's open source!

For your studio reference headphone you may want a better Bluetooth CODEC and a better DAC than this board supports. It may be possible to get LDAC on this but I suspect not. Probably easier to buy a ready made product if you are looking for good quality audio

Hey, this was an amazing video! The editing back in time had me laughing away. I'm looking at doing a headphone project and going above and beyond the level of my other projects. I really want to do active noise cancelling which led me to Qualcomm chips. From what I can make out though you have to buy the ANC features as well as the chip itself and to do so you need to be a registered business! It seems a bit of a mine field. Would you have any suggestions for a project with ANC? Would it be possible on an ESP32 or maybe there is a way to use the Qualcomm chips which will probably give the best end product.

Hey there Clem, Please when able make a video on programming the ESP32-Wroom bare bone using EVA foam and sewing pins. I'd love to see your approach to this unique problem. I do not want a break out board. I do however need to program the ESP32. Think EVA foam and sewing pins can do it?

Could the ESP32 support 24 bit audio at 96kHz or higher? Would be interesting to implement HD audio over Wifi, similar to Nvidia's implementation (for the Shield TV) except it would work with a regular PC.

What you could do, instead of putting that bit of extra weight into the headphones, (and possibly damaging them to make things fit) is make an up to phone sized module that hangs round your neck, maybe under your shirt, maybe in "landscape" rather than "portrait" orientation, for stability. Make the case according to what the electronics and battery will require (so you could have much better battery life - maybe even make that extendable just in case.) Benefits of doing things this way is that you don't mess with the balance etc of the headphones, as-designed. (You just need a nice broad neck strap so that it doesn't cut into one's neck if some variants - the 20 hour battery one, for instance - get too heavy.) I often wonder why designers of head-wearable kit (eg. VR goggles) insist on putting more than the bare minimum in the head mounted part. Surely the best place for anything that weighs anything is as close to one's torso as possible? (As close to the centre of mass, even.) So you're actually done, then. The unit is already plenty small and compact enough for neck- hanging.

Unfortunately I have a quite "occasional" interest in this kind of thing, and more of a "what's up in that world" than maker interest. Basically, I've seen good content on your KZread channel at some past date, and thought it looked worth subscribing, but it's been a while since I last burnt myself with a soldering iron. At this stage I don't think I should open an account there, just because there's a chance of it becoming yet another one of my unmaintained online accounts - not a good idea to have too many of those (or any, really). But thanks. I'll keep it in mind, and if my circumstances change (not impossible), I'll remember, and go and join in actively. For now, though, I don't even often have what seems to me a good enough idea to be worth suggesting, and my visits are a bit sporadic. Your videos are great, B.T.W. !

I2S is serial like SPI, but applied to PCM audio mostly. There's a doc from Phillips that really breaks down the spec into easy chunks to understand. At first I was thinking "why would ANYONE do it this way?" but it really makes a lot of practical sense. And the "nein, nein, nein!" moment caused me to spit coffee out my nose! :D

Of course, there are lots of tiny and cheap Bluetooth audio receivers that can instantly turn any wired headphones into wireless (many of which have a switch to also act as a transmitter), but where's the fun in that? The other advantage, though, is that many of those also have a built-in microphone so they work as a handsfree for phone calls.

there wil lalways be a cheap otpion for most stuff, but do you have control over them, do you really know what its doing , with your data and your devices? Nobody should have to trust anyone,but be in control of everything they own. I think its not a bout building a cheap option but a Free one as in Freedom.

yeah who would buy that? or an mp3 player that only plays music purchased from one store, or earbuds that only connect to one brand of phone...well some people do. and they need a free option.
