❣DIY Old Farmhouse Using Cardboard Boxes❣

I made an old farmhouse recycling some cardboard boxes I had laying around. The only things I bought were the colors and the hot glue. It took me about four days to finish.
I tried to use all kinds of cardboard boxes, big, small, thick and thin. I had a general idea of how I want to place them so I started by cutting the tops where the roofs should fit. Then I made the cardboard roofs and glued them in place. Next I drew the windows and doors and cut them out. Cutting cardboard in mid air can be a challenge so please be careful and take your time. I added a chimney and the basic shape was finished. I started adding small wooden boards all over the surface of the house. They will look awesome once they will be textured and painted. For the roof tiles I cut small rectangular cardboard pieces. I used pizza boxes for those because the cardboard is thinner. You always want to start your roof from the bottom and work your way up. Take your time and do this right because the roofs are important parts of the house. Visually you first see the roofs and the textured surfaces so don't rush and make big tiles just to finish sooner. Do this step right and you will end up with an amazing little house. I made the textured wood using a ball pen and pressing the wooden pattern deep in the cardboard. This texture adds such a nice realistic effect and it helps a lot in the next step when adding color and patina. I start the painting of the farmhouse by covering the surface in a dark color first. This will serve as a base. I made this color go in all the cracks and the deepest holes. It will act like a shadow and contrast layer when we add brighter colors. Then I add a very bright color, or even white, only to the surface of the texture, gently rubbing the brush with very little pigment so I don't get it in the cracks. On top of that bright color you can add other colors as well. You can make it brighter and more colorful, it's your choice. Beautiful! Your work is so wonderful and inspirational. I made my own cardboard house after watching the video of your witches house. It was so much fun and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Your craft "stuff" storage area must be huge to fit all these little boxes and whatnot that you use for these. I love your various houses and am always intrigued with the way you use old bits and pieces to design and build off. The buildings always end up looking so gorgeous!
Now i really regret spending big money for my project. I should just find harder. Ugh...Next time. Your works absolutely awesome. Love it!
This house is a work of art especially because it is not precise like an architect's model. It has character. I can picture the people who would have lived there. It's homey and comfortable. I could decorate it for Halloween or Christmas. It's very interesting. Thank you for the demonstration.

Thank you for posting this video, when my two (One of each) were much younger we'd do projects like this from household scraps. My son and I would make military miniature dioramas, hes the oldest, is now working on his PhD and my Daughter and I would create castles and fantasy world sets all in miniature, she now does Studio and Film production ;)

I fell in love with your farmhouse so I saved up some boxes after Christmas. When we found ourselves cloistered due to the pandemic I started on a house to entertain myself. I can’t thank you enough for your video, it really shows how to make a cardboard house and especially how to paint it and my house is almost at that stage. Also, I love the music. It’s very soothing. I re-watched your instructive video and wish I had paid more attention because only a few of my boxes were white inside. The white really helps the windows look transparent instead of just dark inside. But it's still a lot of fun. I'm getting ready to paint and did some test trials on a few scraps of brown cardboard glued to a bigger piece. You have a real way way with paint. I see from your work and my tests that I need to make the striations with the ballpoint pen much deeper. I'm thinking that on my next house maybe I'll make the ballpoint pen lines on the "siding" pieces before I glue them on. (I had gotten carried away and my farmhouse grew into a scary old mansion.)Love you work, and thanks again for sharing your talent. And I love that music!
