DIY Off Road Rear Bumper Bar - Jeep JK - Homemade Build

Rear Bumper Bar Homemade Build. A different video to our usual. Please let us know if you enjoyed it and we will make more of this type of content for you.
In this video I show how I built the rear bar for the Jeep JK Wrangler. Built with off cuts and scrap material I had laying around with the only real cost being the bolts.
The aim was strength and sleekness for off road use. I did not want it to be bulky with huge overhangs to get hung up on rock ledges etc. The recovery points needed to be very strong and as such they mount directly into the chassis 250mm and fixed with 2x16mm and 2x12mm high tensile bolts. The chassis is sandwiched between a 10mm plate and the 20mm recovery plate.
I also wanted to protect the quarter panels behind the rear wheels but did not want to loose to much clearance or have a large protrusion. These follow the body line closely are made from 100x50mm 5mm wall RHS.
The main section of the bumper is 100x150mm 4mm wall RHS with one side cut out and sits tightly around the rear cross member with almost no overhang keeping the departure angle as high as possible.
Some inspiration for this off road bumper came from the Evo Manufacturing Fascia Bumper as that gave the best clearance for off road use however does not offer as much protection as I would have liked.
At the end of the build section of this video we have a couple of video clips from the first outing.
Hope you enjoy this new to us style of video and if you would like to see more build, maintenance and modification videos be sure to let us know.
Thanks for watching.

    Very sweet bumper!! Really like how you contoured it to fit around the sides & the tow points are absolutely perfect as well, not going to get any stronger than that. A very impressive job, my respects!

    Damn, I regret buying the weld-on clevis mounts. They way you made yours to pass through the bumper itself, part of the actual frame support just made me re-consider how I'm building my bumpers. Thanks!

    Really nice! Do you think this design (strength) would support a swing out tire mount?

    Yes i believe it would however i would add some plate onto the bar where you want to attach the carrier.

    Any chance you made a video on adding mudflaps to that bumper? Will you add a tow hitch to that?

  • @lror

    @lror

    I considered adding a tow hitch to it but decided to notch the bar and retain the factory tow hitch arrangement. That way it could be bolted off for more clearance off road. Here is a video of the removable mud flaps i made kzread.info/dash/bejne/nZl3ttmretuYm5M.html
