Ma'am can you please take this down? Not only is it cultural appropriation, but it is also offensive. I know you are trying to promote yourself as an ally by recognizing Indigenous people's day, but this video comes off as completely ignorant. Native Americans are more than fabricated feathers and a war cry! Stop promoting us as a costume for clout! For corrective measures, please start by taking this video down, acknowledging your mistakes, educating yourself on contemporary indigenous populations, and refrain from generalizations (side note: there are more than 500 federally recognized tribes in the United States). The reason why we find content like this offensive and irritating is because it is a form of erasure of our existence.

100%!!! If she's trying to build a brand for herself, pissing off millions of natives, their families, friends & allies is not a smart way to go about this. I found this video on a site promoting a boycott of her. Believe me when I say nothing good was said about it. There's a whole thread where they're trying to track her down to protest her work & take action against her. Not a good way to run a business 😑

Now i am not native american but i am an ally to them, and i want to help give them freedom and to let people know that their culture is not a costume. The native americans that were here first made these beautiful headdresses that they would earn and work hard to get. take for example a Olympic medal. the athelete worked years and years to train and work to get that medal. once you got the medal, you'd accomplish something that made it feel worth something. but then, people have started mass producing those medals, and now that someone is able to buy one for $20 off of Ebay, it isn't worth anything. That is a big difference from dressing up as a king or queen, rather than dressing up from someone's culture which you might not be.

Please, to everyone watching. Do not DIY this. This is cultural appropriation. It is also against the law! It is a violation of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act (Act). Please note that the Act applies to art and craft products being displayed (even on social media) or offered for sale, or sold, as American Indian, Indian, Alaska Native, Native American, or the product of a particular Indian tribe as defined by the Act. So, if you have to ask yourself if you should? Just don't, please 🙏.

We all appropriate each other's culture in a multi-cultural society. Getting upset about it rather than taking it as a compliment, is just unproductive and perpetuates our personal victimhood and honours our segregation as human beings, rather than our cohesion and tolerance...and celebrating our diversity. We're all members of the same family of man.

Even though that is how most of the world is(by that I mean most religions and cultures); it just seems more logical if you’re making a video on a certain culture of people to use THEIR music rather than choosing the first thing that shows up when you KZread Indian music.

This is NOT costumes to be made to dress up in. It is actual someone's traditional clothing and not to be mad a joke out of for your pleasure. Why don't you ask a real indigenous person how they feel about their Traditional Regalia (clothing) being used as costumes. HONOR the Indigenous people, DON'T sink to her level in discrimination to the ORIGINAL and TRUE Americans the Indigenous people of this place they have called Turtle Island for over a thousand years. Hasn't the American Indians and First Nation Indians (from Canada) been disgraced enough by this great country that's we call theUnited States of America??? Hasn't our government done enough to them to have people make fun of them by using them as mascots or using your clothing as costumes for dressing up in. Think about how you would feel having your land taken from you and then having people make fun of you. They weren't even considered Americans until the 1920s even though they where here first. Think about that.

I was anticipating this comment sorry it took so long to find it! Actually i had this answer locked and loaded: people wear, mock, love, style, flaunt, drag my culture’s wear ALL the time as far as history can go. Kidding me? I never mind it. I’ve been made fun of, I’ve had whispers when i wear my cultural wear-never mind it. Who cares? People like what they like and they dont what they dont. But as for this video i simply made a diy of a war bonnet right before halloween where i believed many moms wouldve found this tutorial helpful to make their children a costume in time for the holiday that is vastly celebrated throughout my country. Oh! And i wonder of all these hateful comments under my video of me simply crafting and doing what i love and appreciating a culture along the way, how hard would these people go at my elementary school where we made feathered caps and feathered vests representing the natives and paper top hats to represent the pilgrims during thanksgiving time or shall i say indigenous people’s day? I grew up around so many cultures and have embraced them all and enjoy partaking. Idk where everyones from but i literally went to school and they taught us how to make these except mine is much more detailed & pretty ;)

Stick to cultures that you know about and make your "play costumes" from your own cultures. Thank you. You can be a pilgrim or a soldier, a nurse, Mickey Mouse, or some cartoon character, but do not show up at a Native function in this get up. Trying to pretend it means respect does not fool anyone! Please do some research into how it must be earned, you will see how very foolish it is to try to turn it into something anyone can wear!!! and yes, if you are not actively fighting the #genocide of half the world then you are "digging" it... there is no middle ground where you can just say something and pretend that is fighting the ongoing genocide!!! get your body between the war criminals and the #indigenous, that is the only way to stop it! if you did not dig the genocide you would be addressing your comments to other one instead of to me! now try to do some introspection and realize what this means about your and your viewpoint... because everything we do has meaning ~even if the meaning is we are thoughtless and careless and trust me, this is not a way to be! I bet you think you are "reasonable" but that is very far from the truth. Look up the word sacred, it does not mean go to some building once a week to be seen. It will help you understand the world much better and you can come back and apologize once you gain understanding.... A real #indigenous would not put on sacred regalia for a "photoshoot" though. If they do it is because of the genocide and her loss of self respect! And that does not honor the #indigenous at all but highlights the ongoing genocide, do you see yet? Or did you quit reading after the first line?

It is a big problem today for our children to go on KZread and see videos like yours even though you have no bad intentions I truly believe you are trying to honor us but it is not honor that our children see or that we as adults see, our children see the continuation of us being nothing more than a costume for anyone to wear and that leads into being just a cartoon as well as a mascot and even at schools my children were taught that we had gone extinct with the dinosaurs we were not alive anymore or that we have millions of dollars from reservations casinos just lies that pile on top of Lies not to mention problems such as missing and murdered indigenous women are extremely high sexual assault and rape average which is every 3 out of 5 native women will be sexually assaulted by a non-native man in their lifetime which is higher than the national average and higher than any other race or ethnicity in this nation, we have many problems that we are overcoming since the white settlers first came and set foot onto this land illegally and we have overcome many issues but when our children see a woman adorning a headdress made for a respected male Elder and see how hard they've been working on making their regalia makes their real regalia something that is just that much less special because people are doing it on KZread left and right making Indian costumes and again people that don't mean any harm but it is harmful it piles on top of piles of problems and our children feel it and we as adults feel it. if it is not okay to wear blackface to honor the black community or dress up as a holocaust Survivor to honor the Jewish community that survived that atrocity then why is it okay to dress up as my indigenous people when we survived such an attempted genocide that is still going on today in more subtle ways? I hope do you see what I mean I'm not coming at you with any hate or anger I just want to educate you about something that is not talked about often or in fact at all in schools or in any other way. It would honor us if you would discuss things like you said at the beginning of your video like not calling it Columbus Day that was wonderful. if you could focus on things like that and give us what you have to say, that would honor us because you seem to be a friend to our people not denying the past and being offencive to us with your speech at all. if you would just leave the costume out of it ....you are better than that, you seem to be a good person and I'm asking you please do not dress this way. as someone who puts on regalia and understands every piece and whose hands have sown every Stitch who dances for the right reasons I beg you please do not wear this and do not show people how to make this I'm sure that you could make such more fashionable beautiful things that are not racial or having any prejudicial quality. It’s not non native Americans faults they are Native American. Having said that, try to earn a war bonnet the official way is good but if it’s not possible for some people, then what’s the point of preventing these people from wearing one if they like the culture . Sure , people who like the culture should try to earn it the official way , but if it’s not possible, then what . It’s just not fair and considerate . I also do see a problem of people treating a war bonnet as a costume and just throws it out after they are done. Last thing, if someone took the time to make one, that definitely means they’re earn it. They put time and energy to learn another culture to make something from another culture. They deserve permission to wear it becuase they made it and they like the culture

Nev Rosee - well technically it is. The proper definition of “costume” is as follows; cos·tume noun /ˈkäsˌt(y)o͞om 1. a set of clothes in a style typical of a particular country or historical period. But if you are offended I apologize as I created this costume out of admiration. This video was not intended to mock your culture. Thanks for your understanding :)

Nita Sen you should’ve done research before making your “costume” because then you would realize that ONLY chiefs wear headdresses, if you did your research you would’ve known not to make this atrocity

@@nitasen2298 Wow. Your level of ignorance is kind of breathtaking. Like just wow. You have Native American people straightup telling you you are being offensive, including myself, and you're like 'jusssssssst tryna post a diy here, lol'. Like your bullshit 'look at me' video is more important than 500 years of rape, slavery, and murder. You absolutely disgust me.

Very disrespectful and its an obvious disregard to native culture/values/traditions/symbolism . I dont agree with this video one bit. If its just a costume to you, its obvious you lack the minimal effort to stop and educate yourself or even allow yourself to empathize with Native Americans.

People seem to be quite annoyed about her making this. Saying it’s not a costume, your disrespecting the culture ect. Multiple cultures have been made into I guess u could say costumes, she isn’t being disrespectful to them, just because u didn’t like that she did that didn’t mean u have to say it in the comments. Just saying.

I agree just as much as I disagree. Other cultures have been made into costumes, but that doesn't make it ok. However, there are some "costumes" that are alright. A Japanese dress? Wear it, whatever. An Aztec necklace? Sure, it'll look great. But something like a headdress, or wearing a costume of a Chinese emperor would look pretty racist. It's more of a disrespecting the status set by the culture thing.

You know... I've been wondering.... If you refused to share your culture.... How exactly are you going to preserve it? I always believe that all culture should be shared. If you refused to let people enjoy your culture then really.... What's the point of protecting it? What's the point preserving it? What's the point of showing it off to the world if it's just exclusive for the cultures insider? Look if it's history we're talking about, then let me tell you a bit about my people. I'm Indonesian. My people is being colonialize by the Dutch for 350 years, followed by the Japanese, And there are other countries of Europe controlling our land during those time too. Most of our artefact are stolen ad now are being kept in the Netherlands. They made us build roads, plant things that only benefit the colonizer and many dies of starvation and And we've only gain our independence in year 1945, Which is pretty recent compare to most countries in the world. Do we banned them from wearing kebaya? Or Konde, or Beskap, or blankon or Batik? No. We want them to wear them. We want them to experience our culture. Yes, we know what they did to us in the past, The pain they cause us, The people that died during their reign. We too were slave to the white people. But doesn't mean we can be exclusive, no. If we close our self from the world, we would never become part of the world. We want the world to know who we are by knowing our culture. If we banned people from experiencing our culture, Then how will they know us? And why would we banned them anyway? Because grudge? That's just pity. If you're talking about spiritual meaning, keris are considered sacred. But there's a foreigner out there who have a house full of keris collection. Do we get offended? No, Absolutely not! Blankon is a male headdress in the past but now it can be worn by a woman too. Now let me be a little bit cruel here. "A past is a past. Dwell in it for too long and you wont be able to grow.".
