Title: "DIY MRI: How to build your own MRI scanner"
Abstract: Low field MRI has gained renewed interest in recent years as a means of expanding the role of MR in the healthcare system. While the image quality that can be attained with Low field MRI systems (less than 0.1 Tesla) is significantly lower than their high field counterparts they are much smaller, more light weight and cheaper than their high field counter parts and due to not needing extensive cooling systems they are much simpler to construct yourself. In this presentation I'll talk about the design and construction of a 50 milliTesla head only system and highlight some of the challenges that we faced during the process and hopefully by the end you will be able to build your own!

About your high Q issue in 39:49, I wonder if the next solution could be useful. I guess this is the common current approach: Send a sync signal of 20kHz bandwidth for the 90º pulse, then waiting some time, then sending the 180º pulse, waiting again, and receive the echo signal using the 88 Q coil: 90º SYNC 20kHz ------------------------------------- 180º SYNC 20kHz ------------------------------------- RX ECHO with 20kHz bandwidth Instead of doing so, maybe you could: Use the 362 Q coil, let's say, with a bandwidth of 5kHz, instead of the 88 Q coil. Then, instead of sending sync pulses, just send the 90º pulse as a frequency sweep from min to max, occupying the whole time instead of waiting. Then double the voltage to send the 180º pulse and repeat the same frequency sweep. Then, and where the magic happens, use a variable capacitor to tune the high Q coil and make a sweep in the measure the echo pulses are being received: 90º SWEEP [-10kHz --------- > +10kHz] ------ 180º SWEEP [-10kHz -------- > +10kHz] ------ RX ECHO [-10kHz ------- > +10kHz] The time taken by the TX sweep from the start to the end will be in sync with the echo pulse time. Since the start of the sweep also has some undesired harmonics, maybe another solution would be to send 90º x 4 sync pulses of 5kHz bandwidth followed by 180º x 4 sync pulses of 5kHz bandwidth, and use the same approach of sweeping the receiver resonant frequency during the Rx echo time.

you would have to build analog circuits able to sweep the tuning at high speeds but also low harmonic distortion (or find ways to deal with it). it would be real fun to play with such a device.

Is it not possible to make the magnet seat smaller by 0.05mm to cut down on the magnet rotation, or even smaller and freeze the magnets before positioning to allow for placement then expand to room temperature to form a tighter fit?

pretty sure they are accounting for error from deformation too, 0.05 mm is just that small

I AM SUFFERING FROM POTRENTIAL MS i say potential multiple sclerosis because have all symptoms and my spine and sciatacia hurts and eyes and brain everywehre so i know pretty much 80 percent chance i have ms need to get ti confirmed though . MRI IS THE ONLY WAY FOR MS.. because as you say the white and grey matter lesions that can happen but not all ms has lesions this is the problem. i had 5 brain mris and 1 spine mri all clear but motnh after i had attack on spine lossed all feeling in my left leg fell over THEN I PANICKED THEN THE FEELING CAME BACK HOUR LATER how strange i have black dots and cobwebs in my vision ,(floaters) my head hurts nothing like headache its like swelling im losing my memory and focus i can no logner memorize 6 to 10 letters or numbers i used to be able to. i can only manage 5 now jhust about 4, my hand forgets where light switch is or kettle i always forget words and kettle position or movies im so annoyed with whats going on , FINALLY I STRUGGLE NOW TO SWALLOW PROPELY AND AND ICANT RBEATHE MY NERVES ARE BEING ATTACKED, at first ithought this was copd or heart or astma but no its definitly MY CHEST NERVE AND OTHER NERVES. found your video SUPER helpful in my quest for future diagnosis thank yo umy friend GOOD VIDEO WHITE AND GRE YMATTER IS IMPORTANT WITH MS
