DIY: Make your own Baby Crested Gecko PVC Rack | Gargoyle Gecko Hatchling Rack

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In this video, I will take you step by step on how to build your very own custom Crested Gecko / Gargoyle Gecko PVC Baby Rack.
We will cover materials and tools needed to complete the job and some tips to help you build your very own custom New Caledonia Gecko Rack. This build will consist of 10 shelves that will hold 4 hatchling bins per shelf with a total housing capacity of 40 Crested / Gargoyle Geckos. Of course your can build this out to the size of your choice. I just wouldn't go any wider because the PVC shelves will begin to sag a little which could create spacing gaps.
Cost Analysis & Links to products:
(2x) 4 x 8 foot Expanded PVC sheets from Home Depot: $206.00 ($103each)
*save some money by going through a plastics supplier which will have more color options and quantity deals. Laird Plastics out of Tampa is a good option if you are in Central Florida
40x Sterilite Shoe Box bins from the Container Store: $106.00
www.containerstore.com/s/our-...
40x 2 inch aluminum screen vents- Black: $94.00
amzn.to/34KnnIX
Total: $406.00 (comes out to just over $10 cost per gecko)
*optional back panel will raise the cost an extra $40.00. (1/4inch PVC half sheet)
You can just this price in half you you choose a particle board material instead of PVC (Melamime at Home Depot). *Heavier and more of a fire hazard.
Also, you can drill your own holes with a sodering tool so you will not need the screen vents.
Cheaper version of this rack can be under $200.00. (Roughly $5.00 cost per gecko)

Thanks for this video. I would prefer putting a white rear PVC panel so that it reflects light in their tubs.

To help with ventilation you could take the hole saw and cut holes on each shelf layer and add screen or whatever over them which should allow more air flow while still allowing you to close off the back of the shelf

Excellent video thank you for the tutorial I’m in the process of building one of these racks now do you feel that 2” vent is big enough was thinking of upping it to the 2.5” vent but not sure if that is to Big?

That's awesome, the rack came out perfect. For the space gap I use clear plastic shelve liner from homedepot. Just cut it and use it as you did the cardboard it's slightly thinner. Great video you have a talent for making videos

For the back panel, could you use a cheaper material. How about pegboard... which would help the airflow? Thoughts?

Some tips on filming (since I see you're putting alotnof effort into it) always shoot at 24fps and 1/50th of a second unless it's slow mo of course. 24fps and 1/50th will give you natural motion blur, 30fps is a bit uncomfortable for the average viewer

I hope you screwed each shelf into the back or you will get sagging over time ? looks great

Thank you! So yes, I've found that going 30 inches wide is just the right amount of length that will prevent any sagging over time with the black PVC we use (side note not all Expanded PVC is created equal). I have built wider units with the Home Depot white PVC before and you are 100% right!! As a precaution I did add a few extra screws on the back panel into various shelves too for a little extra support in case that does happens. 👍Hope all is well my dude!

"these prices are ridiculous" literally no home depots of any neighboring states carry any PVC sheets. The quotes from local plastic companies here are 250$ a sheet 4x8. Its so sad
