DIY Kraft-Paper Roller Tutorial

First Off, I realize that I spelled 'Craft' instead of 'Kraft'. Now that that's out of the way...
Total cost for the build was about $50, not counting the tools I already owned or borrowed or the wood itself.
Not much else to say. The movie should answer a lot of your questions.

Pretty good! With cutting the kraft paper, in trade class we cut a lot of kraft paper from a roll using a long bevelled metal ruler, the bevelled side facing the side to be cut.

True, a hacksaw blade won't come 24" long. But you could cut down a band saw blade to the desired length.

Thanks so much! This is exactly what I was looking for! I completely understand needing to "get your ideas on paper"

First, for the tear off part, you might want to use a piece of hardwood about 3/8" thick instead of the yard stick (too flexible) and get a used bandsaw blade to attach to the back. Cut it to length and glue it or drill and screw it on to the back of the hardwood. Epoxy would probably hold it. This was perfect! I had my grandkids over this weekend and we drew on white butcher wrap (same as yours, but white) and I decided something to hold it on the wall while I drew but also available to tear off for kids is what I need in my shop. Thanks for the video - you saved me a lot of planning and research. The commercially available stands for the paper are inexpensive, but only perform the hold and tear off function - your idea is exactly what I envisioned!

I'm gonna try this one. I ordered my paper today. I have a tabletop one, but it's cumbersome, and in the way of my sublimation work. Thanks for sharing

Nice video, your thoughts and ideas were easy to follow along with, I didn't exactly find what I was looking for here, I was looking for a way to cut drafting vellum out of a roll like what is shown here. I did get an idea from this video. I think I might try laying the roll across a cutting mat, then use a exact o knife and follow along the edge of a ruler to get a straight cut.

Yup them aerated parts form the rolls of aluminum and things work well. I will be trying this with transfer paper. Great idea as I have no table space.

An easy way to create a tear off strip is to buy a short bandsaw blade. Cut it to length, drill holes for mounting, and voila!

I know this is an old post, but FYI...My solution for a cutting edge was to chamfer one edge of a wood yardstick, then fasten that side against the wall.

Route a slot in the lower edge of the bottom yardstick and epoxy hacksaw blades into it. A line of corrugated timber fasteners is another option.

i am making this to go on the end of my work bench for about a 3'x3' area for resin work/painting/polymer clay area for easy clean up. I am going to use 4 yard sticks and the ones on the front and rear of the desk will be so that I can take a sharpie and create 1" marks in med point black sharpie on the contact paper and red sharpie to mark the 1/16" increments and do the same with the end yard sticks to create an easy grid with easy 90 degree angles for marking easy measurements on some of my other projects from wood working to creating leather work, or scrap booking paper, etc. However with the paper cutting using an exacto knife or scrap book paper/ polymer clay roller blade I cant think of a way to do this without tearing up the contact paper as cutting perfectly straight lines using this method is ideal vs scissors. So if you have any Ideas for that let me know. I run an enterprise that includes 4 businesses from wood working and decor to hand faceting rough gemstones and agate on a cabbing matching with or without a faceting attachment for gem stones and making and made jewelry, to creating custom 3D printed objects and replicating broken pieces of different parts that are either not made anymore or are extremely expensive to buy from the manufacturer, to random customized items ordered, and a vaping company where I buy sell and trade the gear as well as sell hand made displays, organizers, build deck organizers, and one of a kind hand made and turned acrylic or wood drip tips on my lathe- Point being is I just got an actual studio/workshop/store that I can work out of so I am just really getting going and I fund the purchase of every material I have and other than covering the cost of materials and labor I put 15% back into each company for more supplies and expansion, and I make 20% of each sale because I have bills to pay and mouths to feed haha and the rest goes to two different charities that I have been basically self funding for the past 3 years. One is to help the ASPCA and local shelters as well as assisting families that may have a severely injured pet and cannot pay for the medical expense and I donate 3d printed prosthetic for animals that have lost a limb or wheels that help animals of all kinds that have had a back injury resulting in loss of use of rear legs or even or lost the use of their rear legs or even for front legs. The other is to help those far below the poverty level stop smoking through the Vaping industry and our states Tobacco Quit line and I provide them with the right gear they need to have the highest chance of success to stop smoking. The gas station disposable ecigs or the cheap starter pen kits you get when you don't know anything about how vaping works and how everyone comfortable vaping zone is different and pens usually don't work for most people, does for some but not most, but the cost of a mod, tank, batteries, external charger, coils, drip tips, and eliquid (I only provide 0 % nicotine liquids because with the help of the sate I am able to provide free patches, gum, lozenges, etc and its is dangerous to vape while using nicotine patches.) They are also matched with a sponsor with similar vaping comfort zones to help them and actual phone and video chat therapy sessions with licensed therapist ) I could be very wealthy quickly if I hired a lot of employees and rented a commercial warehouse and put much more of the business and kept much more money for myself but these charities are close to my heart as vaping and a horribly abused and neglected rescue great dane puppy who became my 166lb service dog saved my life (in different ways) but I feel like these two things have given me a purpose in life and its to help people and possibly save other lives by the same two means that saved mine. So I have to do everything extremely cheap or in unconventional ways when it comes to my workshop and I diy as many tools, tool accessories/storage/ wall mounts, /stock material mounts, storage and shelving/ product displays and diy product photo booth and product photo enchancement. And keeping things separated but using a single 256sft attachment to my garage that was an old incompleted studio apartment but was never finished in the 70s with wood paneling on every wall and then for some reason a gigantic bathroom that is twice the size of the one in my actual house on the other side of the property. Any ideas for any diy for any of the for mentioned shop/office/studio/store front I would love to see. I dont even have an office desk yet. There wouldnt be as much as a storage and space issue if my boyfriend's father didnt insist on keeping 3 3 foot in depth and 7 feet long shelves on the interior wall with junk that we dont need and on top of that my boyfriend did not use the plans that I worked on for 3 weeks to make sure I was making the most storage space and getting the most floor space possible.. Im in desperate need of videos of office/computer desk diys and office organization, interior diy upgrades cheap because its dark gloomy and cluddered in there and I am supposed to be opening to the public in 2 months. storage/ etc so I can spend more money in my materials and craftsmanship to produce high quality hand made products that people will want to buy and through buying help *Fight the Smoke with Vapers Unique* and help animals in need with *Lowcountry, Hook line & Sinker Helps* as well as *Dane Nation Wood Works and Decor Cares* and less money on getting this studio up to par. Because As I said I do a little bit of EVERYTHING anything artisian or craft I do it, I started by just drawing and having a natural talent at it and it blew up into this at almost 29 SOOOO SORRY FOR THE LONG COMMENT BUT YOU HAVE HAD ONE OF THE FIRST DIY VIDEOS THAT IS ACTUALLY EASY, DOESNT COST HARDLY ANYTHING AND YOUR PRESENTATION OF THE DIY WAS VERY CLEAR AND EASILY FOLLOWED AS THE VIDEO PROGRESSED AND I LOVE THE ADDITION OF THE CONTACT PAPER. BY THE WAY A GOOD WAY TO CUT OFF THE END WHEN YOUR DONE IS GETTING A METAL YARDSTICK THAT HAS THE CORK BOARD DOWN THE CENTER IN THE BACK AND SHARPEN THE BOTTOM END LIKE A BLADE AND IT CUTS A STRAIGHT AND CLEAN LINE. YOU CAN USE A SIMPLE KITCHEN KNIFE SHARPENER TO ACHIEVE THIS, I AM SO GLAD I CAME ACROSS YOUR VIDEO AND CHANEL AND I AM ALWAYS ON THE LOOK OUT FOR ALL KINDS OF DIYS. I HAVE TO GET A KZread CHANEL GOING BUT I AM NERVOUS AND HAVE NEVER DONE A VIDEO, HAVE KNOW IDEA HOW TO EDIT ONE AND MY ONE ROOM WORKSHOP/OFFICE/STORE IS IN NOW CONDITION TO DO VIDEOS ON HOW TO DO MY OWN DIY CREATION VIDEOS THAT ARE ALWAYS SUPER CHEAP AND DONT REQUIRE 15 DIFFERENT LARGE STAND ALONE MACHINES WHICH IN MY MIND IS NOT GOING TO HELP THE PEOPLE SEARCHING THE DIY THEY ARE DOING BECAUSE A LARGE MAJORITY DONT HAVE A WORKSHOP AT ALL MUCH LESS ELECTRIC WOOD PLANERS, JIGSAWS, TABLE SAWS, MITER SAWS, 300 WOOD CLAMPS, AND 50000 TOOLS. KEEP THIS UP YOU INSPIRE ME AND IF YOU HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR I THANK YOU AND LOOK FORWARD TO MORE OF YOUR VIDEOS. BTW ANY ADVICE WITH DOING KZread (MINE WILL BE MOSTLY UPCYCLING, RECLAIMED WOOD PROJECTS, RESIN TUTORIALS, AND VAPING REVIEWS AND DRIP TIP VIDEO HOW TOS, SO I KNOW I WOULDNT BE ANY COMPETITION TO YOU. I JUST HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO START LOOKING FORWARD FOR THE NEXT ALERT OF YOUR NEXT VIDEO

Holy smokes, I love this...but thank God I have an engineer for a brother because all that cutting and measuring almost gave me a headache ;). All the same, I have had good luck with Home Depot cutting pieces for me and it's a little cheaper than buying the tools too, so I may be able to pull this off!

You can get a band saw blade Harbor Freight for $8 and then cut that to length you need. I was gonna tack weld some hack saw blades together until i found that.

I love your idea on using the tear strip off of saran wrap/foil cartons. Someone also mentioned using a metal ruler of which I've seen before. I watched another video on a smaller version of this...I forget who did it tho, lol! They used a 12" roll of Non-Adhesive Craft Masking Paper which you can find at any hardware store or here: www.lowes.ca/masking-paper-film/trimaco-non-adhesive-craft-masking-paper_g1654647.html. I had to look it up bc I've never heard of this before. It appears to be thicker than Kraft paper but I don't know for sure. I have limited space so I'll have to go with the smaller version. I will likely use it for the weekly menu or 'on-going' chore list. I already have one similar to this that uses a roll of cash register tape (I found it at a thrift store and it's a diy project too!) He needs a big brother now ;) I need to find the dowel and eye hooks like you used to fit the above masking paper. Tfs!

This could have been a great video if you would have shown how the various hardware you chose were actually used. You kind of showed it but speeding up the steps you could only see it in 1/4 of a second shots. Not useful. But thanks anyway.
