    For each row do you start with the opposite stitch or is it one row: knit, purl, knit, purl second row: knit, purl, knit, purl. Or is it one row: knit, purl, knit, purl second row: purl, knit, purl, knit?

  • @ashl3ymich3ll3

    @ashl3ymich3ll3

    I know this is old but maybe someone else will have the same question. If you cast on an even number it should be the same for every row: knit, purl. If you cast on uneven it will change each row knit purl, purl knit. Also you should learn to "read" your work, pay attention to what the stitch looks like when you are doing each and you will eventually be able to tell without keeping track.

    Hi! Great tutorial thank you! When you knit one, Pearl one, when you go onto the next row do you carry on the pattern or start again with the knit? So row 1: knit, Pearl, knit Row 2: Pearl, knit, Pearl or Row 2: knit, Pearl, knit? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense!

    You have to knit the knits and purl the purls, so you can just look what the first stitch is of the new row. But if you do an even amount of stitches it should start with the same stitch each time anyway x

  • @afair937

    @afair937

    This is the exact same question I had! Still a little confused on the answer though. So does that mean when I finish a down with a purl I start the next row with a purl? I can’t wait to not be a newb and just know these thing haha

  • @hannahrobertsart9168

    @hannahrobertsart9168

    I’m a newbie too so not very good at explaining what I mean lol. If you look at the row that’s on your needle, the stitches that are purls will have a horizontal line, and the knit stitches are kind of a V-shape. So when you go to start a new row you can look at that first stitch and work out if it’s a purl or a knit stitch. Hope that helps - if not, hopefully someone else can explain it better than me! Good luck x

    you can watch a tutorial for pearling; pearling is a type of knitting. If you were struggling for casting or starting it I recommend watching knitting beginner vids. I do agree this vid was very vague and not expained well! dont give up!

    Isn’t it just purling and knitting tho? It’s ok tho, knitting is difficult. But you should never give up and just keep knitting to get the best results :)

    This was not clear at all. She doesn’t tell how many stitches to cast on. She also doesn’t tell what gauge the yarn size is or what size needles to use and I’m a seasoned knitter. Was just looking for a chunky flat knit hat pattern for an adult. Very frustrating. I can’t imagine trying this pattern as a new knitter without half of the important information left out!

    She noted both pieces of info within the first two minutes of the video? I know she doesn’t mention yarn gauge but she’s noted the exact name and brand of wool, so couldn’t you look that info up pretty easily? I just started knitting two days ago and I’m doing ok?

    You can change the speed of the video, however it is a basic hat, cast on 34, knit purl every row until it measures 10-11 inches. There are videos on how to do the basic stitches if you are still learning.

    Perhaps you need to watch videos on how to cast on, how to do knit stitch, how to purl before you can follow a pattern
