    again a precious idea ... i never did something like this ( i knew only the oil paint on water, for ''floating papersheets'', giving an effect like faux marble.) - but this is way better

    Love this, thank for sharing. After you make your mold and apply the sealant. You get an container fill it with water and then add your colors. You let them dry. My question is how do you get rid of the water in the container, without staining anything?

    I don’t seal them. It’s better not to, unless you do it after. The paint left over in the water is just stringy. It doesn’t stain anything. I just poured it out in the grass or driveway.

    Can you recommend a good concrete sealer for small planters? I’m trying clear acrylic spray right now but it takes so many coats.

    Hi Amelia, I haven't had good luck with acrylic spray-it's quite noticeable. I typically don't seal my planters, but when I do, I like to use Easy Seal Concrete sealer. It's quick and easy to use. If you paint the planter and want to protect the coating, the Easy Seal works for that too.

    Do you have to wait a couple of days after making your concrete containers Before you can do this paint technique or can you do it right after taking it out of mold. Thanks Henrietta

  • @ArtsyPrettyPlants

    Hi, you will need to wait until absolutely all the moisture has come out, and that amount of time will depend on the mix you are using. I usually use Cement All which is a rapid set and cure (1 hour), so the cement is dry 24 hours later. Most other mixes may need 3 days. The thickness will also be a factor. The thicker, the longer to dry.

    So there’s no need to paint the cement all vessel white or use primer? Just dip the gray vessel in the water with the paint?

  • @ArtsyPrettyPlants

    @ArtsyPrettyPlants

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Brittany, the Cement All is off-white naturally so it's up to you if you want to prime it. I primed most of the pieces (in white), but not all of them. The paint sticks slightly better when primed, but you can also use a low grit sand paper to rough the surface up to make it stick better if you don't want to prime it. And you can get creative and use any color primer too. It doesn't have to be white.

    I use acrylic paint on my concrete candles- inside and out. The spray paint should be the same, but I would test it first. It could be different with different brands and metallics.

    How did you dispose of the water?

  • @ArtsyPrettyPlants

    @ArtsyPrettyPlants

    The paint doesn't mix in with the water really, it remains mostly on top is just stringy. So I dump it out on a thick layer of gravel under my deck and just pick off the larger bits of paint. You could get an old window screen and dump it out on that to save yourself some trouble.

    Hi, I’m sorry it didn’t work. I have 3 tutorials on my website for hydro dipping. They all can be applied to concrete. The type of spray paint is very important. Sheen, brand etc. Even within the same brand and type, some don’t work as well as others. I have the link to the written tutorial on my site. I link to the paints I used. And if you search on my site for “hydro dipping” you’ll see the other tutorials and see the other good spray paints I used and I explain which worked great.
