    Even though they spin at a lower rpm and weigh more, a 4 stroke engine is a better choice for an application like this. Two strokes really depend on constant revs (variations of rpms) to pull and separate the oil from the fuel/oil mix through the bottom end. Constantly running a 2 stroke at the same rpm will limit lubrication to the bottom end of the engine and shorten engine life. Otherwise, its a cool charger!

    Your wrong about running a two stroke "Constantly at the same rpm will limit lubrication to the bottom end of the engine and shorten engine life". crankcase and lower end is the first place the mix oil and gas goes to before being transferred to combustion chamber.

    A two stroke is not as efficient as a four stroke but is a better choice if weight and size are a problem - also in many cases of a two stroke engine running 24 hrs a day 7 days a week they will far out last a 4 cycle gasoline or diesel air cooled engine at 2800 to 3600 RPMs - Over the decades I've used both 2 cycle & 4 cycle gasoline and diesel engines - those Chinese 800 watt Yamaha knock off 2 cycle generators will out last the finest high dollar diesel generator when set up on a 100 gallon mixed gas tank and is run 24 hrs a day 7 days a week for a yr at a time - In the case of this video if his load was under 400 watts he could set the engine to run at 2800 RPMs - an automotive altinator generally will put out 350 watts constant down to 2500 RPMs with out over heating the diodes and burning them out - With 12 volts one input hp generates 385 watts

    Wydaje było by dobrze dać pasek klinowy żeby silnik dawał więcej obrotów alternatoru , to widać jak w silniku samochodu wałek jest sonajmnie w 2 razy większy niż na alternatorze co daje w dwa razy więcej obrotów alternatoru.

    I've done a similar build with a gx160 5.5hp, the moment you add a decent load to it the motor stalls immediately and I'm using 50% reduction.

    I am am also in the process of something along the same lines I have a 4 stroke 50cc power plant and a 130 amp alternator ive had a claw type drive on the lathe to fit right into the alternator so far so good any ways for all the people who are saying "why" and its to loud and it would use to much gas .... we make these things because we can and to learn .... in short keep up the good work you have my sub any how

    Maybe this would be good to bring on the boat. It could keep the battery charged after listening to music at the sand bar. You could probably discharge the exhaust into the water to reduce noise. 🤷‍♂️

    Good job. Just attach a step up transformer or inverter to output and you have high output. Can you share the wire diagram, mean how the wires going in and out thanks

    Sir.. Only two wires here are required with battery. 1 ground from battery negative post to alternator. 2. Hot wire from alternator post to positive battery post.. Will charge 12 volt battery and maintain battery at 12 volts. What ever you hook up to the battery will be your choice. May I add I have a simple way to accomplish 120 volts.     Kiepski pomysł, bo nie ograniczasz ani nie kontrolujesz prądu ładowania akumulatora a to wróży jego szybka śmierć!! Alternator kontroluje tylko napięcie ale nie prąd. Przy niskich obrotach będzie miał niska moc co może być jedynym ratunkiem dla akumulatora i trochę wydłuży jego żywot.

    I'm in Northern Canada, if you can weld no problem , our Pevy mart has 2 hp motors, use pulleys so you don't have to over rev the motor, ie 3 to one . A car alternator has to run at 3600 tom5,000 rpm. They are 50 to 60 % efficient, so one out of a car that had air conditioning rated for 100 amps youbwill get 60 normally, still hook that upmto a couple or more batteries a 3000 watt inverter that spikes to 6,000 ( need the spike for when a fridge, freezer starts) Trickmis to have a electric motor ( washing machine motors are perfect they go upmto 15,000 rpm and are reverseable to take over and self run. I'm getting close l had 76 volts coming back , you need 115 . Maybe this year. Anyway start drawing you migjt come up with something

    You have a fully charged battery. Its not having to put much amps out. Try with a dead battery and show how many amps its putting to the battery

    Давно уже попробовал, проверил, работает, но сцепление играет злую шутку, надо очень сильно крутить двигатель, буду переделывать на 4Т и ремень со шкивом, за одно будет тест-стол для автомобильных генераторов.

    I can see that it works by the regulated voltage. The REAL question is...how well? Current is the measure that should be displayed! I could spin the alternator by hand on that set-up and make voltage. Amps brother, amps!

    I've measured six amps from car alternator at idle for empty battery. It is pretty good for the high 14.4 volts and certainly charges battery. However, using a 12 -> 24 volt external transformer in between car and battery I've measured 16 amps for battery charging at idle but at slightly lower voltage than 14 volts at battery terminals. So the alternator regulator keeps the volts up but slows down current for battery charging. If it didn't slow down current, volts at battery terminals would be lower.

    Przy małych obrotach moze i oszczędzasz wache ale nie wykorzystasz w pełni alternatora bo pod obciążeniem silnik na małych obrotach bedzie sie męczył, a jeśli moc silnika bedzie zbyt mała to wystąpi spadek napięcia przy zbyt dużym obciążeniu alternator nie nadąży.

    Try a belt drive with a bigger ratio of wheel to the weed eater less rpm save more gas dont adjust the carb idle screw use the cable

    One issue is the rpm you are running is without a significant draw on the battery. The rpms of the weed Wacker motor are to high at full throttle. Plus if you add a reduction gearing you can get more amps and have more power from the motor.

    Nope. The alternator depends on it's internal mechanical fan to cool it and it's coupled with the shaft , running it below 2000rpm will smoke it even if it's outputting half of it's rated power. To use the full power u need to run them at 4000rpm or more .. & this is an alternator it can make a ton of current even at low rpm but it will lack cooling. These are typically 50% efficient so if u pull 1000w it will destroy 1000w as heat .

    @@KuntalGhosh So I guess every car that idles or cruises at or below 55mph will also smoke their alternators....unless you stay in 1st or 2nd in an automatic or 1st 2nd and 3rd in a stick......LOL Most cars today cruise at 55 somewhere around 1800 rpm...... @ Tim Rollins If these are to recharge batteries,guess what,the battery has drained enough and will put a load on the alt to recharge it....... When a car is turning anything from just say 1000 to 6000 (some will run faster) rpm and the battery doesn't need a charge I guess the belt just jumps off to disengage the alt's pulley and jump back on when it falls low enough to need the alt.......lol If you're even running only 1 light like in the vid it'd still only generate as much power as it needs,when needed...it's called the voltage regulator. There's many cars now that this is controlled through the ECM and that's now where there will be a problem....so you want to make sure you get a alt with a built in regulator.Most the old ones (somewhere around early 80's and older) had a external regulator,if you were to use one of those you'd have to also integrate that regulator. @hustlaz2k Yes low rpm will effect how much amps the alt puts out, but at idle,which is anywhere from 600-1000rpm,will still keep it charged...unless you added a lot of aftermarket garbage that eats up even more amps.Vehicles will idle till the fuel tank is empty even with headlights,stereo,and every other light on in it.... Do any of you dolts even hear yourself think.........do you know anything about auto-mechanics? You get 13.5 to 14.5 volt from the alt when a vehicle is idling.If a car is already running you don't need a battery to keep it running,you can actually remove it... Also,you don't need an alt to run a car,( it can fail and run off the battery) as long as the battery has enough charge.

    At the terminal most altinator's generate 15 volts or so - most cars draw 30 amps Max off altinator's -when a car is ideleling most altinator's are turning at 2500 RPMs

    I believe this alternator (As well as most alternators) have an internal voltage regulator.

    What is interesting to me, you can use 180amp alternator, that's about 2500watt with small engine?

    @@DinoPasic 2200w at 12.6v about 2000rpm 1.1 gear but cool I made one with an old lawn mower 2 alternators at 1200rpm geared to 2000rpm on alternator works well. diesel is the best run it on chip fat or old oil lol

    Mam na działce agregat,ale mam też silnik od kosiarki przymierzam się do budowy agregatu z alternatora z tym że użyję koła pasowego od pralki automatycznej.w celu zwiększenia przełożenia.Będzie ładował akumulator i napędzał instalację 12v

    The only problem with using an unmodified alternator on a small engine is that you have no control over the output. Looking at the number of grooves on that pulley, it is probably capable of 80A or so output. If i recall correctly each 30A of load requires 1hp, so that alternator could easily drag that engine to a standstill...

    Mr. RonMar: It is usually, required for generators, to have 2 hp per every 1,000 watts of gen output. So, a 6 hp engine, would be on a 3,000-3500 watt generator, usually. 10 hp for 9,000 to 10 kwatts,.....etc etc.

    @@petersack5074 What you say is correct, 2HP/KW, when referring to conventional AC generators, in fact larger generators usually do a little better than that. I have built several and helped to build many more, both AC and DC over the years. I currently have a 6HP slow speed lister and a 16HP built around a Chinese diesel and they both follow that rule pretty closely producing 3KW and 8KW respectively. The problem is an automotive alternator is not that… They were built for size and weight requirements, not electrical efficiency. They don’t have a large iron mass to help shape and generate an efficient field and they do not have the large field crossing zones of a bigger generator. They are also converting it to DC(every conversion has loss), so they are no where near as efficient as a typical 120/240V AC generator. 30A/HP for a 12V alt is an appropriate rule that I have seen in practice. Larger frame 24V truck alts are a little more efficient, but not much…

    Theoretically it should not , if the motor has a 2hp that is about 1,5 output KW so with corect gearing it should be able to power even 80a alternator at 14v because that is 1120w max output, so law of energy conservation. Because 400w in loses would be really big number for that small centrifugal clutch.

    @@Jarda_B That 2HP engine has 1.5 MECHANICAL KW of output(the KW equivalent of 2HP), not 1.5 electrical output KW, because that then becomes a factor of generator efficiency and drive/cooling loads. EVERY CONVERSION HAS LOSS!!! That is where the generator rule of thumb, 2HP to 1 Electrical KW comes from. It factors in the conversion and efficiency losses getting from 2HP(1.5KW mechanical) to 1KW electrical output. That rule of thumb applies to conventional AC/mains generator sets that are perhaps 85% electrically efficient at converting torque to electrons… Then add in the drag and blower losses from the generator cooling fan and you arrive at the 2HP to 1KW rule for sustained power generation. The problem is automotive alts are significantly less efficient than mains generators, closer to ~50% electrical efficiency, So your 2HP/1.5KW engine immediately equates to 750W of electricity, not considering drive and cooling/blower system losses/loads. 750W is 55.5A@13.5V, which is right in line with the other rule of thumb I mentioned above for automotive alternators, 1HP for every 30A of electrical load… You throw 60A on that 2HP engine and it is going to wind down and stop… participated in a design project for a small engine solar backup generator to top-off and maintain batteries during winter/low solar. The consensus was, to use a small efficient engine loaded to 85-90% load, we needed a current limiting regulator that would keep the alternator load within the engines capacity to handle during large bulk charging sessions. Sizing the engine larger ultimately resulted in lower efficiency/higher overall fuel consumption as the larger engine wound up being lightly loaded for fairly long periods of time doing the finish/top off charging…

    @@rronmar Of course I know that, I am an electrician, but you missed the one main word "Theoretically" and I would say that car alternator has a 70% eficency to that ads up to roughly 1Kw = 74A at 13,5V so yes If I take my THEORETICAL calculations from coments before Yes it would stop, but only if you make more than lets say 800w load, which isw some sirious power for many things.

    regulator napięcia jest w alternatorze, masa na obudowie, plus oraz żarówka do wzbudzenia będzie opisana. Sam myślę, ale koszt 220zł alternator plus 200-300zł silnik od kosiarki to dużo skoro są generatory 230v z wyjściem 12v i 10A w cenie 340zł na allegro. Do ładowania aku 40-50ah więcej niż 10A nie jest potrzebne. Szkoda że nie ma gotowców bez 230v ale za to tańszych.

    załóżmy że alternator 100A. Dajemy obciążenie (wymyślam np. Żarówkę 12v 90A). Czy taka kosiarka da radę alternatorowi? Alternator będzie dawał duże obciążenie na silnik?

    Taki silnik bedzie za słaby żeby napędzić w pełni obciążony alternator. Ale chyba nie po to sie buduje takie małe cudeńka. Najlepiej altek od fiata seicento ktory ma odrazu koło pasowe na pasek V i zasilic to przez pasek silnikiem od kosiarki ktory też ma szajbę napasek v. Tanio i w 4 suwie.

    can someone expain why the lightbulb that is attached to the alternator lights up randomly? is the lightbulb to trick the alternator into turning on, ie to add a load? is it to stop overvoltage ( act as a voltage regulator ) is the lightbulb just a indicator of when the alternator isnt supplying power? or the opposite?

    Based on my limited knowledge of how these alernators work, i would imagine that the light bulb is an indicator to show that the coils have been energised

    i have a 4 horsepower 4 cycle engine to an alternator and when charging a discharge battery the alternator will bog down the engine. not enough horsepower.

    Nic innego nie zrobiłes jak uruchomiłeś alternator na stole. Żaden z tego agregat, nie wytworzy więcej napięcia niz pozwoli regulator napięcia.
