I have a tip for anyone sewing vinyl. If you buy a teflon foot you don't have to use wd40. The teflon foot attaches to your machine instead of a regular foot and it allows the vinyl to pass right through without sticking. I sew a lot of purses and this is a pretty standard purse technique.

Bonus! If you have trouble sewing this and keeping things lined up, use paper clips to hold it together! Pins will leave holes in your material but paperclips are leather-friendly.

Nice tutorial. If I may make a suggestion, you could try using a teflon sewing foot for your machine instead of using the spray. Teflon feet are used for sewing with leather, pleather and suede.

Thank yo for sharing your time and knowledge. I am looking to make a belt holder for a play. This should be perfect. My only thought is it's hard for me to see what pieces to sew due them being black. Perhaps you can make one with different colors or have a numbered drawing with pattern on which to sew first. :)

Hey Scott, I wanted to let you know that your videos are unparalleled as far as quality and clarity go! Rarely do you find someone as articulate as yourself that actually takes their time and explains each and every step! I especially loved your batman cape video. Not only were your directions spot on, but because you advocated the use of a sewing machine, it really pushed me to learn how to use it, which is something I would've never done otherwise. I even put together a last minute cape for my brother so we could celebrate Halloween as the Arkham Batman and Robin :)

+Nicholas Marcos Thanks so much. I really appreciate the feedback. I taught myself how to sew when I was about 15, so even though it seems daunting to a lot of people, it really isn't that difficult to learn. Hope you and your brother continue to have a lot of fun costuming together!

A very good intro of the materials and tools to use. I do have one critic I have for your video. I can't see your progress. Your lighting needs to be above you or behind you if you are using dark fabric. You need to use lighter fabric if lighting isn't available. If you can find time to spare, can you do the tutorial again? This one with surrounded lighting and a different color fabric.
