All this time I thought you had actually used leather. Now I know it's green inside. :-)

Now I'm even more impressed with that particular cosplay!!! Those examples you showed at the end, the details that you worked into them is unbelievable. As always, your work is magnificent!!

Thank you so much!!
Hey Ginni, would you make a tutorial on how you constructed your corset?
I just wanna say thanks for this, this has been so helpful for about 3 cosplays this year already, and definitely will be for the rest I'm hoping to do!
This is gonna be super helpful for the belts I'm making for my Grey Warden! Thank you so much for making this.
those pouches look amazing!
You have so many great tips, thanks for sharing what you've learned!
I love your voice, it's so nice to listen it! And thank you so much for the tutorial, it helps a lot
Literally the video I was looking for! Even with the bit about embroidery. Thanks so much!
Excellent tutorial. Thank you for making this.
You're tutorial really helped me out! Thank you and awesome cosplay!
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!!
Keep in mind you can also do the stitching through the pleather before gluing then you don't have to worry about sewing through glue. This works better if it will only be seen from one side though. You also may prefer painting it after stitching as the stitches wouldn't stay pristine either, but totally up to you. Or you can use chalk, pastels, or even makeup to darken the stitches in certain areas if you like. This is an excellent tutorial Ginny.
Wow thats amazinggg
This was a great tutorial thank you so much!!
Thanks for sharing this, you help us a lot
Awesome tutorial! Also craft foam is also available on amazon! They sell rolls of craft foam 50" x 50" ish I belive :D

They do! I order it from there all the time!
Thank you this is very helpful!
Awesome and thank you. I'm trying to make a Geralt cosplay. I already learned how to make chainmail, and I didn't want to use real leather, so this helps.
I just went through 40 different faux leather "effect" videos for a dice related craft project and I couldn't find what I was looking for. Turns out I just needed some Di-IY with actual faux leather for the effect I was looking for. Too bad the closest Joann to me closes in 10 minutes and it would take me just as long to get there lol
Do you have a tutorial for the pouches? Amazing work! My 12 year old son is starting his Link cosplay for con this year. He is very excited and has started on making the chain mail shirt underneath and learning to sew. (And starting to look into making chainmail jewelry for his sisters.) He is obsessed with your videos.
Excellent Work! :-)
Whoa! I never thought to do this- awesome trick!
Thank you so much for this video

Brilliant
this is so useful i've been desperate to find a way to fake leather pouches for an eileen the crow cosplay while still having them work as functional pouches
thanks! this will help with my tracer jacket!!
Neat!
hello I was wondering how you made the pouches 3:24. Itll be my first time trying, but I would like to make some for a cosplay Im working on
Hi! This is super helpful. Is an embroidery needle really strong enough to sew seams thru pleather and foam?
Do you have a tutorial for making the corset?
Thank you so much for this video! I was just wondering if you've had any experience making pieces that are too big for one piece of foam - how does having a join work? For instance, if I'm making a belt and have to join two pieces of foam, will it tend to fold at the join?
I was looking how to make fake leather for cosplay to use in my dungeons and dragons puppet making and started watching the video without looking who's i clocked on in google and was like "I KNOW THAT VOICE" thanks for the lesson!
Is 2mm craft foam from joanns good?
awesome! how did you made the glossy finish?
Me, an experience cosplayer, "I'm gonna make V's jacket from Cyberpunk." Also me, "I haven't done a pleather jacket before! Oh crap!" Me after this video, "Oh, okay, same techniques as everything else. Cool."
what type of paint is best for weathering fake leather?
How much weight do you think a pouch made with this would hold before it buckled? Is it strong? By the way, thanks immensely for uploading this. I’ve been looking all over for something like this and the effect seems perfect.

Vinyl tears pretty easily - definitely not as strong as real leather! If you wanted it to hold some real weight, I'd line it with something sturdier, like a canvas.
This is super helpful, thank you! How on earth did you make that amazing corset by the way? I am at a loss on how to start Ciri's corset.
@GinnyDi
6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I used the tutorial for drafting a corset pattern from your own measurements on Foundations Revealed, but it isn't a technique for beginners imo - if you haven't sewn a corset before, Simplicity 8129 may be a good start! You can replace the featherlight boning with steel boning and lengthen it a bit to get that low-on-the-hips look that hers has! Mine laces up the back (technically inaccurate), but it's the easiest way to get any shaping power!

I made a corset with a faux leather and it's bubbling and peeling. I like the look of yours but I'm trying to imagine sewing through the foam. Did you just use the painting techniques on vinyl for the corset or did you use the foam there too?
@usagi17per
5 жыл бұрын
@@lucianndraper5722 in another comment she replied that she didn't use foam for the corset. she uses foam for sturdy accessories like belts or gauntlets. i think she used the vinyl for the corset as the main fabric.
Will the leather paints work on fake suede too?
@GinnyDi
6 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried it, but I don't see why not! I would just be a little more precise when working with an absorbent fabric like that, because while you can rub excess paint off of pleather, any paint you get onto a faux suede would be there forever, I suspect.
hi there, if you dont mind i have a question.Would this work if i had to make the fabric a different color then the base im using? for example i need orange leather but thats hard to find. so could i use brown and add orange paint?
@GinnyDi
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, absolutely!! You'd want to get a leather paint to make sure that it stays flexible. Angelus (the brand I use in this video) makes an orange paint! Of course, some manufacturers do make orange pleather, so you also may want to try looking online before you commit to painting another color.

@@GinnyDi ty for responding back. that was very helpful.
Normal leather is actually more ethical than plastic leather because the production of the plastic harms the environment also, real leather would last you way longer than fake leather. I would much rather buy real leather once than supporting pollution by buying fake leather multiple times.
So you used foam underneath for the corset too?
@GinnyDi
5 жыл бұрын
No, I use foam for leather pieces that need to have thickness - belts, bracers, etc. Any garment I just use the pleather like a fabric. This corset is lined with a satin and the pleather is used in place of a fashion fabric.

This helped me a lot but I do have one question. Can the pleather be heat shaped. I have a female character I want to bring to life one day and she wears leather armor.
@GinnyDi
4 жыл бұрын
No, pleather behaves essentially like a fabric. However, foam can be heat shaped, so if you heat shape the armor from foam first and then cover it in pleather, you can get a similar effect.
where did you get the pattern to make the corset?
@GinnyDi

Yes. It sounds to me like you maybe aren't familiar with craft foam or vinyl/pleather, so I encourage you to just go to a craft store and touch it with your hands and I think you'll have a much better understanding of what it's capable of! It's really not fragile in the slightest.
I know the creator of this video makes a profit from the Amazon link, and I don't want to take away from that, but if you're making a large amount of faux leather and/or want to save some money, getting the paint directly from the seller is way cheaper. 1 oz./$2.95, 5 oz./$5.95. Heck, they even sell full quarts of their paint.

Ginny Di sorry, didn't exactly hear that.
To bad the vinyl faux leather is plastic based and takes up to 200 years to dissipate.
I don't understand Ciri cosplayers. Why not just take natural fabric, leather fabric and make a costume? It looks like rubber, too fake and too modern. Excessive fuss with paints
@GinnyDi

It's been a while since I made this video, but I'm pretty sure I started it by giving multiple examples of why people might want to use fake leather...? Some people don't want to use animal products, and leather is really expensive. But I guess if you make your own costume, you can do it however you want. It doesn't really matter if you don't "get" how other cosplayers choose to create.
