DIY Herringbone Tile Floor - Start to Finish

The herringbone pattern is beautiful and we are going to show you how to get the exact same look when laying your own tile.
In this video we take you through the process of ripping out the old tile and prepping for the new tile. We show you how to find the correct placement for laying out the herringbone pattern in the room. And finally, we show you how to lay the tile and add grout. It's a lot of work, but you can do it!
We used a gray wood looking tile and a premixed grout (color silver) from Floor and Decor in Salt Lake City.

Looks great one piece of advice I will give you is when laying your mortar try to do just straight lines because when you swirl and you push the tile down it’s harder for the air to escape from the gaps and you wind up with air pockets under the tile But seeing as those are smaller tiles it won’t be much of an issue but if you were using large tiles like 12” x 24” you really want to make sure those grout lines are straight It’s important for all tiles but the bigger the tile gets the more air that will get trapped in the swirly lines

I love the look. I’m currently living in a rented house and I have tile through out the whole house and I really don’t like it. It’s square and really hard to clean in my opinion. With kids spilling drinks or anything I find the grout always stays dirty looking. I told my bf when we build our own home we aren’t getting tile but I gotta say I really like the tile you guys used. @@krisunderwood5912 No, not lazy, just stating a fact. With no height issues it`s a no brainer, nowadays, a lot of ceramic tiles are fitted before the kitchen units and we now have screed that will deal with that instead of having to rip up the old tiles which are often very difficult to remove. In this video there are no height issues and the doors could be adjusted easily. It`s certainly not a floor layers job to remove the old tiles, that`s down to the client and they have options.
