You might want to clean out your p-trap. It's going to clog with the grout sitting in it. Use a bucket of water and see what's left in the bottom when your done. Other than that great vid.

did you only back butter your tiles? Seems a lot less messy that way but i'd be scared to not get enough adhesive on there

Yes, I only back buttered with 1/8 v notch. Probably not recommended by the pros. But it was a lot less messy! I got plenty of the adhesive on there. Probably would only try that approach on backsplashes. Been up 2 years and everything is still solid.

What size tile did you use? Also, noticed you didn’t use spacers. Not necessary?

These were 12x3 tiles. Because of the angle on the edge of subway tiles you can still get grout inbetween without spacers. We chose to do this for thinner grout line and simpler instillation.

Good question. I used AcrylPro Tile adhesive by Custom Building Products from Home Depot. I've added a link below. I never used it before, I always mixed up the mortar. I really liked this stuff and will definitely use it again for backsplashes. Easy clean up and perfect consistance. Do you not recommend all white grout considering doing this but I heard you say from your past experience it with gray

Personally I would not use white grout. With cooking and food prep you are bound to stain it faster. This can be fixed but I personally wouldn’t use white grout. White on white would also somewhat mute the texture given by the tile pattern.

Thanks for the video! My kitchen is exactly configured just like yours. I notice you had left wall done already, did you start in the middle of the left wall and worked your way out to the corner and edge?

Thanks for the question. I started in the corner and worked my way out I believe. I may have started 1 full tile in from the corner just to have some support in setting the smaller corner tiles.

Wish you had not constantly moved the camera. Was hard to see detail of the tile pattern on my phone.

Thanks! Yes that is how I did it. However these two tiles can’t overlap in the corner or the patter will look off. To help avoid this you can cut strips of tile that are the thickness of your tile. Basically these will look like long square rods with all sides equaling your tile thickness. You put these in the corner of the wall and run the cuts of you tile right up against them. You won’t see it when done and it will ensure you don’t overlap tiles in the corner which will mess up this pattern. Test it out by dry fitting some tile, you will see what I mean. Hope this helps!

Hi That Guy DIY! Great video! I would appreciate any input. Is it ok to have this on our kitchen with white cabinets & Calacatta quartz counters : beveled white subway tile in a traditional herringbone pattern with bright white grout? Do the bevels and herringbone pattern give it enough texture or should I dial up the grout color a bit? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

Thanks for your question. Really I think it is up to personal preference. I used beveled white subway tile in one of our showers and I think it does add a bit more dimension. But, I also used a light grey grout. I'd look for some pictures online to see if you can find something similar to what you want to do to compare.

The inside edges and outside Edges are about 1/8 in difference. So… the side on the wall with the adhesive can touch but there is still a gap on the outside. Probably not advisable if you ask a tile expert but I’ve hade more success with smaller format tile on back splashes doing this. Our lines are consistent.

Normally I would but for these we want a very thin line. The tiles are also manufactured so the base is larger than the top which provides about a 1/8in space for grout with no spacers. I’m sure a professional tiler would probably disagree with this approach and I probably wouldn’t do it for flooring but for a back splash I figured it was ok and much less time consuming than using spacers.

What was the cost of this project?

I think this one was about $500. The tiles and adhesive are not too expensive. I did take a lot of time though.

Walls are not level they are plumb
