DIY Hand Painted Lettering on a 30 year Junkyard Rescue Station Wagon.
Although I have owned over 100 vehicles I have never owned a car with antique hand painted lettering until now. We rescued this 78 Ford Fairmont station wagon from literally getting crushed in a junkyard that was closing near us. It was used as a home repair service vehicle back in the 80s and was apparently parked around 1993 which means it spent 30 years in the junkyard! In this video we are going to clean this wagon up and re-paint the hand painted lettering that someone tried to remove years ago. Our plan is to eventually swap in a hog leg V8 Ford of some kind and take it to events and races. Hope you like the video.

This brings back memories! My mom had a brown 1980 Fairmont wagon back in the late '80s and she was a tough old girl! I brought home a vintage gas pump and a 1946 Seeburg jukebox in the back of that car. A friend and I made a 800 mile road trip from eastern Wisconsin to the middle of Iowa in 1989. My mom got another car and she gave me the Fairmont to use when I went to tech school, she never let us down. Not the most glamorous car I ever had but I kind of wish I had kept her! Good luck with it!!!

If you weren't aware, the sn-95 car has the same floor pans. Everything you want for parts is already there. I'd move the seats from that car to this wagon. But, being you're taking the motor out already, you could cut the floor pans out of it and save yourself a bunch of money. As for a motor, I'd hunt down a cobra four valve. Or even a Navi motor.
351 Cleveland would be cool. This thing has such a personality. Great video family. 💪🐐

My exact thoughts
Hey Josh, if you have a strong 5’ pipe and either short lengths of chain with hooks on the ends or rope with hooks and use as a yard tow rope it will allow you to have braking from the tow wagon. I used a bigger version for moving semi trucks. Awesome channel team!
Josh Hobby Lobby had the paint you were looking for. It's in the craft section. I used some when I hand painted my 1967 Ford F-100 SWB. I made up a Speed Shop name and painted the doors. I made what's called a Mahl stick. It helps you to steady your hand. The paint I used is called Americana Decor Outdoor Living. Then I outlined one side of the letters and used a red scotch bright pad to lightly sand the letters to give it a "weathered " look. And like you I had never hand lettered anything. My truck still factory paint on it but it has become patinaed. The Mahl stick I made is a tennis ball shoved onto a wooden dowel.
Since you are planning to do events, I vote for a 331 stroker with TFS heads and an X-303 cam. That way it's easier to work on since there is plenty of room around it. However, I would also vote for a 5 speed and a bench seat and A/C. Add a centrifugal supercharger like was popular in the 1990's and an 8.8 with 3.73 gears. Heck, I vote for a full on 90's style street racer build complete with Weld Draglites or widened steelies, a monster tach with a big shift light, etc. Just remember that Fairmount and Mustang front suspensions diverge a bit after 1982 and the struts will not interchange. Aim for the 12's and full driveability.
Love you’re content, the animals included in you’re videos are great . A real family channel. I can’t wait to see you get after the RV or the station wagon.

I myself love the 250 Straight 6 and 302 engines, very reliable. I had a beautiful '79 Country Squire Fairmont with a 302 that had a bad valve. No rust at all. Replaced the heater core, frt struts, cat converter and picked up a '70 high compression 302 to put into the squire when one day before the engine work started a man rammed into my back side while making a turn and totaled the car. I sold the car to the insurance company for 1000 dollars (to pay for all the new stuff). I also sold that beautiful high compression 302 to a race car builder. Wish I had that wagon today! It was fun to drive.
I remember that yellow basket thingy! It's from a kids toy.. I think it was marketed as "Click & Catch" back when I was a kid.
