6 neutrals is not good! Can we fix it in time for Ford Fest?

This time we tear in to the Super Coupe Thunderbird that's now a Turbo Coupe to find out what my wife broke in the driveline after she made a pull in it. She shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear under hard acceleration and something in the transmission broke. Lets find out what it is and if we can get it fixed in time for Holley Intergalactic Ford Fest in Bowling Green Kentucky. This car has a GT35 eBay turbo that is 61mm compressor and is now up to around 14 pounds of boost! It has a Mazda M5R2 5 speed manual transmission behind a Essex 3.8 V6 engine that was originally supercharged. It has heads off of a 4.2 V6 out of a 97 Ford F150 that I ported and a ported 99-04 Mustang intake with the baffles removed. It is running on E85 fuel with the help of a Terminator X ecu , Accel 80 pound injectors, walbro 450 lph fuel pump, a used .550" lift roller cam, and PAC 1218 valve springs. The clutch we used was a Centerforce dual friction carbon DF226049. Hope you like the video. #winwithholley

Love it . I started wrenching in the late 70's and my teacher was a 55 Mercury. One day my wife suggested I include our 4 year old son. Trying to keep him out from under our car on blocks, I had him fetch wrenches. 54 years later and he still remembers helping his dad work on the car.

Watching you and your Dad struggling on your backs pulling that transmission out reminds me of the time in 1978 that my Dad and I were pulling the transmission out of the Jeep due to it's being stripped out. The transfer case for the 4 wheel drive comes off the back of the 3-speed transmission and has a cast iron case which is very heavy. The main transmission is tiny compared to the transfer case. My Dad had to do a complete overhaul and replaced every gear. I remember we sent away to Four Wheel Parts Wholesalers in California for every thing we needed. There was only one gear, the reverse idler, that we had to get locally. We saved a bunch on all the parts and got them fairly quickly. This was the second rebuild for that transmission, the previous time in 1968. The one weak point for that truck was that transmission. We would have been better off with a 4-speed low transmission or Automatic. Good luck to you all at Ford-Fest.

I've mentioned this before that I'm not a mechanic or gearhead in any way, but your videos are always so neat to watch because you explain stuff as you go that makes sense to viewers. That kind of work is back-breaking (literally) and gives me so much appreciation for all the years my own Dad did the wrenching on all of our vehicles growing up. Now I know why he was always sound asleep in the recliner after working on them in the garage. I love how you guys have the kids involved. You are both FANTASTIC parents. Your daughter, WaWa's smile is directly connected to the speedometer needle. Get above 40mph and the smile comes on. She gets real cute above 60 mph.

When I blew up the clutch in my GTO, it took all the lining off both sides of the disk. It wasn't quiet about it either, it went off like an M80. Boom! One thing about that car, I sure learned how to replace a clutch. I kept buying cheapo rebuilds, and then having to replace them. Thanks for sharing all your adventures with us. All the best to you and your family.

Mr. Sleeper here in Alaska I e bought many previous Military Police cars from Eielson AFB here just south of a lil town called North Pole. Still 1 of my favorite cars. The Ford Fairmont s and all the other similar cars are fantastic. I had a Fairmont that was cold weather ready. 4 way flashers and - 50 below zero degrees. Plug in cat for 4 hrs. This was to warm oil pan heater, transmission pan heater and battery heater. These cars are reliable Fantastic lil cars. I trusted them enough to haul my family around Fbks. and North Pole bout 14 miles apart. These also had great heat a must for a he cold winters here. We Love your show. Ive learned a lot from you. Your a great Teacher. Thank You for the show. Nice lil farm too. You all are doing great. Keep on buying and fixing that's what I do here part time. God Bless your Familly.

That clutch line takes a special tool. It has a two prong end. The best way to do it I's to take two flathead screwdrivers at 180 degrees and push down on the plastic collar while someone else pulls. Though the tool is usually available at auto zone loan a tool.

I am amazed by your tenacity and patience. That clutch system is nuts. Perfect evidence of, no matter how clever or qualified someone is, they can still design something that doesn't work, and is impossible to work on. Long live 1940's technology.

Observing WaWa's subtle smile over several recent videos when dad is pulling Gs has solved that age old mystery.....it has become clear to me that Leonardo da Vinci must have taken Mona Lisa for a ride in some sort of awesomely fast vehicle right before she sat for that famous painting and that ride is what she was contemplating....it's the same smile!!!

Had a 61 T-Bird with a 390 police interceptor registering 525 hp. Got some new tires on it from Firestone and then driving it home that night had some guy in a stang run a red light in front of me and took the T-Bird over the side and down into a rain water ditch. My friend riding with me said you know if you where driving at your regular speed we would of missed that stang by about 1 minute before because we would of passed that stang 1 minute before he got to that area. Love them T-Birds.

I appreciate all the hard work you do on these cars. I grew up having to help my father do the same stuff in the garage for many years. My father was not as calm as you, there was no joking going on. I am glad not to do this kind of work anymore, It was dirty and frustrating at times. Thanks for letting us watch. that's as close I ever want to do it again.
