DIY - Girl Fixes - Engaged Blade - Mower Cut Off

Engaged mower blade would kill the engine.
John Deer mower. Made by Scott's. Kohler engine. ...Love that thing. Works more like a tractor, instead of a mower. Very impressed.
Perhaps not all the info in video is accurate, but I did my best. Hope you enjoyed.
Mower will be looked at by a professional to verify & clarify issue.

Good advise, weight not my problem, but found that the seat safety switch can go bad, and that will cause the motor to die out when the blades are engadged. It will allow the engine to run, just not when the blades are engadged. Thanks for sharing, and love your dorkyness, we all need a little of that.

I will not sit on a wet soggy sandbag [chuckles] to cut my lawn, but what ever works for you. Very entertaining to say the least & worth the watch!

Love your personality. You made me feel better. I have the same problem. Even the repair man didn't know. But he did want to sell me a machine. Would you believe something so simple Will try tomorrow morning. Thanks, smart lady. Stay lively and spunky.

OMG!!!! You just saved me hours of work and $$$ !!! I lean over to engage the blade switch because I'm small. I couldn't figure out why the mower blades suddenly stopped working. I followed your instructions and everything worked great! You're absolutely right: It's ALL about that B-Ass!!! Thanks!!! 👍

I hate KZreadrs that talk above you with fancy technical language, let alone throwing fancy French words out there like "derriere." I am anxious to see the next video on defusing a thermal nuclear weapon. Had the same trouble and this advice work-good job

I have been searching through manuals, videos, etc.. and I have come across the safety switch before, but found it to be working fine. Thanks to your fun video I see that my seat was adjusted to far forward to hold my weight properly over the switch. The dial on the left is called the throttle in case you were wondering, but doodalee sounds more colorful! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing, I think my doohicki next to the whatchamacallit that holds the doodalee is the problem.

Wow I just learn from you in this video than most tractor videos so far. Psst...don't tell the men about this. You even helped understand the features on your tractor that I don't have on mine. I need to look under my seat at the wires to see why the deck mower wasn't cutting grass at all when it did cut before with deck set on the higher hole that adjusts the front. I have set the mower deck back to the lower hole where it cuts too much grass. Then I have to go over the cut grass that dries up on the yard with a lawnmower with a grass catcher.

Another thing to try , is move the seat all of the way forward, so you don't have to lean as much, to move the blade lever. Good solution to your seat switch problem.

I had the same problem. I used duct tape to override the safety switch on the lever that engages the blade. So if you ever see me walking down the street missing half of my foot, you'll know what happened.

Good tip. Have to see if that seat sensor is the reason why our mower blades won't engage (just bought used mower and that switch was unplugged, so we plugged back in but blades don't turn)

not sure what kind you have, but it is either a stretched belt, missing a part/ broken part (missing spring broken cable). Other kind would be PTO, switch, or stretched belt.

an easy bypass for that safety switch is to put a scotchlok connector on the two wires, and bob's yer uncle.

What in the hell do you have all those keys for … nowadays ignition are weaker and more sensitive and any unnecessary weight on the keys cause issues with it … strongly recommend to eliminate mower key from all unnecessary keys

you'd have to put the wires together if you remove the switch. its like a light switch just completes the circuit once you sit on it. only thing is if you have a lot of hills around your yard & there's a chance the mower could flip back or over the blades could still be spinning.

Rather an asshole comment don't you think? The lady made a simple how-to video on how to solve for a common problem that happens with ride-on mowers. So what's the big deal? The fact she was successful or the fact she owns the mower? Jesus, I own and wrench on a truck, a motorcycle and a case 210 garden tractor. You gonna hate on me for being a girl that also knows this stuff? ~smh~

  • @bnhamilton

    @bnhamilton

@@SteelCowGirl4Ever You guys take this stuff far too seriously. This fellow may be a little abrasive (sound like anybody you know?), but he is making a couple of very valid points. This kind of equipment is intrinsically dangerous and they always warn you not to use it without reading the instructions thoroughly, in which case you would know what all the "little doodlies" are, how to use them and why they are important. It is also fairly ridiculous to publish a video telling people to defeat a mechanism that she already admitted was a safety feature (3:30). This fellow may rub you the wrong way, but he is not being sexist, he is just being safety conscious. A lot of people may think this video is cute, but if someone gets seriously injured following this advice and decides to sue this lady for all she owns, all the cuteness will go right out the window. That doesn't sound so far-fetched to me because I know a guy who almost lost his foot because he put it on the ground while the blades were still running. They brought specialists in who were able to save the foot, but he never walked right again.
