    I had same problem before in my water quality.i suggest you monitor how fast the filter number 1 get fully cloged which in my case was taking around 1 month. Most of the time the first filter should be replaced at least once a month This really helped to have better water quality .after that i only change the second and third filter twice a year. Which saved me some money. Keep the hard work and waiting to see the updates on your system

    Thank you for this video. We have the same water filter as you. It was a bugger getting the filter housings off when I changed the filters. It was important to shut my main water valve and turn on all my cold water faucets to drain the system before removing the housings. This relieved the pressure in the system and made it easier to remove the housings. Also... I think my plumber overtightened the housing which also makes it hard to remove. Good system overall!

    Yes, I also made the mistake to over tighten them the first time I installed them. I know better now 😅

    @@TheDIYCabinGuy Use food-grade silicone grease on the o-rings and the threads of the sumps. The sumps should be tightened by the wrench about 1/8-1/4 turn. Get extra o-rings as spares.

    I would put a bypass from ahead of the first valve to after the second valve. And put a valve in it. This way in case of trouble with the filter system you can bypass it and send water to the house while you make your repairs or service the filter system. This would be helpful in case of a catastrophic leak/ failure anywhere in the filter loop. Keep the bypass valve closed while the filter system is operational, open it when you close the filter valves to isolate the filter group.

    How safe is it to be using that glue inside the fittings if drinking and bathing with? I wouldn't mind if it was just a drain pipe but for a whole house filter that is a little concerning to me.

  • @TheDIYCabinGuy

    @TheDIYCabinGuy

    That’s a good point, it should be safe theoretically, when a house is plumbed with cpvc, they will use that glue everywhere on all your hot and cold water lines.

    Will this system reduce/filter ferrous iron? If so, do you know what you PPM of ferrous was before installation?

    George, that’s a great question since this is my problem. I have actually shot a 6 months review of this system and will upload it to KZread probably next week. Spoiler’s alert, I’m still having issues but that might be because I have other stuff in the water. Theoretically, It can filter 50,000 gallons at 3.0 PPM according to the manufacturers specifications. My PPM according to a professional water test I ended up doing is 2.56 PPM (at the well, before the filters).

    How long does that iron/magnesium filter hold up? It's crazy expensive....

  • @TheDIYCabinGuy

    @TheDIYCabinGuy

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Kenneth, you’re right, it’s about 100$ for the iron manganese filter. They’re supposed to hold up for up to a year depending on water usage. Keep in mind that this filter is only able to handle iron concentrations that are 3PPM and lower ! I’m learning this the hard way, it appears that my iron concentration is much much higher than 3PPM and I did not realize that. Anyway, lesson learned but I would highly encourage everyone testing their water first to know their iron concentration.

    @@TheDIYCabinGuy I would put a spin down filter in front of your setup. Rusco 2" 50 or 100 um. That will make your sediment filter last longer. The sediment filter should catch most of the ferric iron before the oxidizing filter allowing it to last longer. I would put that in the middle and follow it with another sediment filter - and skip the carbon filter.

  • @TheDIYCabinGuy

    @TheDIYCabinGuy

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Javaslinger7730 thanks for the feedback! Really appreciate it. Since the iron is still a problem for us, I’m planning on adding another specific filter in front that will be able to handle high PPM levels for iron, I will also add a spin down filter to prevent overloading the sediment filter. If you saw in the video, I have very little room so I’m waiting to actually remove my old oil boiler which will allow me to add additional elements to my water filtering system. I will do a follow up video once I get to it. What’s your take on those uv lights used to kill bacteria ? I’m seen most manufacturer include that as part of their whole house systems.

    @@TheDIYCabinGuy I'm not sure. As far as I know, you should be able to shock your well, or add a chlorine drip system to your well. If you have persistent bacteria problems then it might be lingering in your pipes. What filter are you mentioning for the high ppm? I would think just having the correct series of filters would achieve the same thing? I feel your pain on the small room. My 'water closet is tiny, but I think you can just wind the system back and forth up the wall.

    @@Javaslinger7730 I was potentially looking at this one : www.123filter.com/ac/central-water-filter_169/ispring-wcfm500k-iron-manganese-and-hydrogen-sulfide-water-filtration-system-whole-house-or-well-water-set--forget-last-up-to-10-years-made-in-usa-wqa-certified-media That’s sadly pretty expensive but will take care of iron up to 12 PPM and will last up to 10 years. Once I remove the boiler, I was thinking about running the water from the well directly to a spin down sediment filter then the heavy duty iron filter I just linked above and then finish with my three stage filters. What do you think about that?

    @@TheDIYCabinGuy the guy is just jealous that he couldn't do a better job. Practice makes perfect, the more we do something the better we get, I'm impressed with your work ethic. Personally I would have used brass street elbows instead of messing around with the cpvc, the brass elbows would cost a bit more but would have been easier and quicker to install. It did look like you might have wrapped the Teflon tape on in the wrong direction but as long as it stays on the threads then it's all good. I've learned that you always want to wrap lots of Teflon tape on the treads and taper it just like the pipe thread is tapered and you don't even have to tighten it that much and no leaks. Keep up the good work, you will be a very successful man!
