DIY freestanding bed with lots of (cosplay) storage

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

So I moved again, to a small studio. I could not screw my bed into the wall as I did here: • DIY bed with lots of (...
So I added more cabinets to make it free standing. Still love how much stuff I can fit under there!
I will be making a moving vlog and show the finished product. I just have to small a space to fit it on a picture...
I am in no way a professional. I can only try to explain how my mom and I made this bed. We are both amateurs and not responsible for anybody getting hurt in their attempt to recreate this bed. With that said, I am really happy with mine and it has proven to be sturdy enough for me.
These are the cabinets I used. www.hornbach.nl/shop/CENTA-Bov...
The others someone was trowing away.
Don't forget to check out Chris' video! His is a lot more profesional than mine ;) • IKEA Hack Platform Bed...

Thxs. I was searching YT for an easy to make/create platform bed. I used your idea in my new place. I cant attatch anything to the wall either. Instead of kitchen cabinets, I found 2 of the older large book cases, (they are made with real wood, not the flimsy ones made today). I removed the extra wood trim and placed then on their sides and removed the back panel on one of them, (this will be front of bed so I can slide stuff under the bed). And followed the rest of your instructions. I reused the planks from my old bed and bam! #NewBed I did paint it and placed an old rug under the bed so the floor wouldn't get stratched.

It looks great and you did an excellent job on making your bed. But how do you open your cupboard doors (silver doors handles) that is on the right hand side in the video at 2:54? Because I'm having a similar problem but I made my cupboard and it has no doors at this time.

I have moved again and needed a loft bed, so unfortunately I don't have it anymore. But it has served me well for years! It is very sturdy.

@@CreativeChaosCostumes I don't know if I can handle the weight of two people though like me in my partner. Cuz all storage cabinets are made out of particle board

I have not had any problems sleeping on it with two people. It is a lot stronger than I thought. A lot of the weight is around the middle beam. If you are worried you can take a look at my other bed tutorial. That was screwed in the wall what made it even stronger. You can always add some extra wood behind the cabinets to be safe.

Where did you get the bed slats?

These where cut to size for my old bed, so I could just screw them back. But originally they where scrap wood my mom had laying around. You could use something like 2x4 lumber. As long as all the slats are the same thickness and thick enough to carry your weight

The right ones I got from Hornbach and are €41.50 each. The ones under the bed I got for free because someone was throwing them out. Prices can be different everywhere though, so you should look for the ones you like the best :)

I love how making it yourself gives you the freedom to do it however works for you. You can choose the size, hight etc. And it was fun to do 😁
