Old RWD ladas are laready over 1000€ despite the condition in Finland. Maybe you might find one for few hundred if you are lucky and seller does not know its value. Too many trade school kids have wrapped them around electric poles so numbers are diminishing etc. In Russia this seem to be their fate:D.

I think Vlad is a bit optimistic verbally most of the time, calling things "good" when they are clearly falling apart, but no matter what he is saying, it's obvious there's no video gymnastics. We see what the cameras saw. Sometimes it is potentially viable, other times it is a disaster. But always "as-was".

This is awesome! You could probably rig up a similar system with a chain, bolt-on sprockets, and a good guard to prevent things from entering the chain while in motion. No more stopping to change the cable. :) Love seeing these videos. Keep up the great work!
@thejuul87184 жыл бұрын
Great video! Try unlocking the diff as this is hindering the steering. Also make the cables in a continuous loop on each side. Wrap the cables around each wheel 3 or 4 times, this way you don’t run out of cable. Cable idler pulleys may also help keep the cables from binding on the body of the car when steering. I love how you guys think out of the box!

This might be an idea I'll try to be short. I) the wire needs to be a loop. ii) in the middle of the rim at uniform intervals weld a V piece of box steel, iii) the steel V needs to be able to catch and hold the loop, and release it. Maybe little triangle teeth, like pinking sheers might help. Otherwise a motorbike chain with a sprocket welded in the middle of every hub. It will need to be quite strong and the sprockets need to be a good size. The larger the sprocket the easier it'll be to drive, plus a simple tension system to stop slip.

@oddballdynamics.9658
4 жыл бұрын
How would you turn?
@Gunzee
4 жыл бұрын
@@oddballdynamics.9658 With great difficulty, it would be far from the 'finger guillotine' as the host here calls this. On the V system steering would be easier, especially if there are no teeth. Do you know about chain tension? On the power/drive side =tension, as it's under load. It's post power where the chain slacks. It's this slack can allow for steering and avoid the snap back seen at Like the guy above typed it's too much work. You'd need chain guides for the front wheel, a precise length of chain, correct tensioner placement and have the tension just right. The main goal is to reduce slip of a looped wire, I've thought of other silly ways one could do it but steering is the bane. It calls for slackness to aid steering. Sadly this increases the chances of reduced grip &/or becoming free from the hub.
@troynasello2085
4 жыл бұрын
Or belt driven with a tensioner, no teeth. Just friction with a constant velocity (CV) system for turning.
@oddballdynamics.9658
4 жыл бұрын
Gunzee: good idea about the tensioner to take up the slack while turning. You could use leaf springs as tensioners. Chain guides with high sides. Steering would be slight but it would turn. Like Troy said you could use a belt. For guides you could use a rim and weld on a plate to make high sides

You guys should try this again this winter except put a continuous cable loop around both wheels. Like, wrap it 4 or 5 times around the back wheel for friction, then to the front with 4 or 5 wraps, then connect it in a loop. It looked like you had some steering while the cables were tight, so you could steer a bit but never run out of cable. That would probably help the steering wheel jolt too.

So the hub as a winch was implemented on the earliest model HUMVEEs. It was really kludgy, and probably a good way to tear a wheel off.
@evann11364 жыл бұрын
impressive as always
4 жыл бұрын
So now let's improve it slightly. 1. Some kind of quick disconnect could be useful. Even smaller screws or some locks. This way whenever you get to the end of the cable, you just swap them diagonally (rear left to front right) and continue. 2. Safety cable release. This cable needs only some securing. Mostly it should prevent spin on the wheel but should fall off when you pull it the other way. This way when it's end, it will just fly off. 3. Improving previous idea, more joint points so you can more precisely fasten the cable and have less length difference on both sides preventing this violent steering wheel shake.

These guys come up with the craziest "what if's" ...the thing that got me to subscribe was the fact that THEY CAN FAIL, admit they failed and leave every moment of the failure in the show. They are humble and very entertaining. Refreshing considering the uber-polished and scripted shows dominating this content segment.

Swear this channel gets better and better 🤣
The opening picture of the drive system made me laugh, ultimately had to watch this movie. Nice!
This is awesome! You could probably rig up a similar system with a chain, bolt-on sprockets, and a good guard to prevent things from entering the chain while in motion. No more stopping to change the cable. :) Love seeing these videos. Keep up the great work!
Man these guys will never run out of ideas. Salute

That's actually a really good idea! Glad to see it worked lol
That might have been the sketchiest thing I’ve ever seen but I loved it.

How would you turn?
@Gunzee
@troynasello2085

Or belt driven with a tensioner, no teeth. Just friction with a constant velocity (CV) system for turning.
@oddballdynamics.9658
4 жыл бұрын
Gunzee: good idea about the tensioner to take up the slack while turning. You could use leaf springs as tensioners. Chain guides with high sides. Steering would be slight but it would turn. Like Troy said you could use a belt. For guides you could use a rim and weld on a plate to make high sides
Conlusion Pros - cheaper than extra axles or driveshaft Cons - limited distance - tricky turning
I improvised the winch function when getting stuck in mud once, by wrapping a tow cable around the front driveshaft on my 1978 Audi 100. It worked like a charm.

Imagination, and the will and wherewithal to see it through. I like it !
Love the channel. try a chain system.
Who'd a thunk it! Clever idea but with some serious drawbacks. Tinker with a continuous loop wrapped a couple of times around each rim then coupled together...kinda like a tank tread.
I just want to go and hangout with these guys! They know how to have fun!
I'm impressed at how good it did.
That's awesome that you made it a four wheel drive system with it. But what it what actually made for was a home made which device. You attach it to your power axle and attach the other end to something solid, while it wraps up it pulls you forward.
8:33 "What is your super power again?" "I can smell every problems in a car and identify them"

Why can’t I have a job like this messing around with cars hanging out with friends nice vid👍😎
one of many reasons why i love russian mechanics. Respect to these mad lads LOL
That pic is actually a recovery Wheel winch. But garage 54 portable 4wd? Yes please!

You guys are nuts! I love it

A couple shock absorbers on the steering linkage would recuse the steering wheel kickback ... but even in some conditions of normal off road driving it's a good practice to just keep your palms on the wheel

Awesome you guys really are worth watching and definitely have respect for the fans
That's such a specialised solution for a problem. But yeah, if you really need 4WD, or a winch, and the only tools you have are a welder, a steel rope and a few spare rims - no worries! Apocalypse skills, right there! xD LOL
Love that air jack
This guys are so cool and ingenious!
At least you tried, has me wandering if the car you were told about was used in short distances or, as you brought up, longer length of cable for greater distance. Also wander about making it gear/chain driven
The new Russian CVT is looking great
Just like a Canadian winter!!
Rule #1. You must drink vodka while you're cruising in your four-wheel drive Lada. so it doesn't hurt as bad when the steering wheel breaks your fingers.
would be cool to see this done with a locomotive style coupling rod instead of the cable system, should be more efficient, wouldn't have to wind and unwind a spool
I like that lil green car. It has nice lines. BMWish.

Mother Russia even in winter can't hold these guys back.
Use a motorcycle chain and sprocket with a tensioner . re-slack adjuster and you can drive anywhere.!!!!!
Its like colin furze, but russian version
Thats actually a cool little car👍
So the hub as a winch was implemented on the earliest model HUMVEEs. It was really kludgy, and probably a good way to tear a wheel off.
impressive as always
So now let's improve it slightly. 1. Some kind of quick disconnect could be useful. Even smaller screws or some locks. This way whenever you get to the end of the cable, you just swap them diagonally (rear left to front right) and continue. 2. Safety cable release. This cable needs only some securing. Mostly it should prevent spin on the wheel but should fall off when you pull it the other way. This way when it's end, it will just fly off. 3. Improving previous idea, more joint points so you can more precisely fasten the cable and have less length difference on both sides preventing this violent steering wheel shake.
My subaru just got a raise after this,bravo
