    I’m researching doing this for the first time. I notice you cut the heads off the bed bolts. Does that mean you have to drill and tap the threads in order to get the new bolts in? I’m unfamiliar. Thanks

  • @FullRange4x4

    @FullRange4x4

    No drilling and tapping. You just made me realize what I didn’t film ha. If the bolts do not break loose like most do not for us in the rust belt you will have to cut the heads off. Once that is done bed is off you are left with the rest of the bolt that goes through the top of the frame and into a capture nut that slides overs the top of the frame, over the hole. Cut the bolt as close to flush with the frame and just bend & pry the capture nut/retainer off the frame. 924-311 is the dorman part number for the bed bolt with the capture nuts. Once you see a picture of them I think you will know what I mean. I will have to make a video of this. I hope this helps.

    Got a question, my truck crossmembers are also shot, been looking at them on amazon and FeEbay and the dorman ones are near 500.oo PLUS got to buy the hardware extra, there are other sellers who selling same for around 150-179 and they include the hardware. Are they the same quality and will fit or are they very cheap and tinny poor quality?

    Hey, yes I have tried the Amazon ones with good luck. I have use them for about 5 beds so far. The were worth the money. I added a link in the video description for the ones I use.

    Check out my clips.. Im doing this exact same thing on my 76 Jeep J10. Pickup. But im using a 90 dodge d250 bed floor. And sign posts for the corss members.. Obviously my Jeep is wayy older than your truck and they dont make beds or corss members.. Only thing i hate about the ned floor pan i got.. Is dodge made it out of 22ga steel.. my Jeeps original was 16ga lol.. extremely thick and doesnt move at all.. the dodge has a bit of flex when you walk on it. If youre blowing through the bed floor that bed floor on that truck must be super thin Your process is similar to mine.. but with mine i jad to custom make all the cross members.. use a straight edge and make brackets to lift the cross members up and line it up.. And basically had to customize it all because none of this is factory for mine.

    I understand that. The superduty trucks luck out there since everything is available. The bed floor is about 19 gauge on these trucks. I’ll check out you stuff too. I did the sign post truck on a 1980 F150 step side bed when I did the wooden floor. I wish I had pictures and video of that but that was almost 20 years ago.

    I’m wanting and needing to repair my 1990 f250 bed. I have new side panels but I’m not an auto bud guy. I’ve always just done the mechanic stuff. Body work intimidates me for some reason. Doing all this stuff seems like so much work. Is it really that much of a cost to just get a whole new bed in comparison to what it cost to do it like this. In my case I’ll pretty much have to do what you did here and my bed sides

    For a 87-97 bed you may be able to find out at a good price that makes sense. I’m here in western PA and there are deals on those around here but just have to look and be ready to drive lol. They go quick.

    @@FullRange4x4 I get that. I had a feeling it was low voltage wise since the metal is probably not super thick. I have a 120V Eastwood welder so that would be perfect. I'll end up doing some test hits to make sure it's all good.
