Everything about the method you demonstrated is fine, except never use 5 minute epoxy. You can see it went on yellow, and since it has no UV inhibitors built in, it will crack and yellow in the sun. The best product to use would be a 2K (2 part) clear coat. Either spray it in a cup and use a tiny paint applicator, or use the paper squeegee method, building up the layers of clear until it sits above the surface (wet on dry, repeat). Then block sand and polish.

Well done video! I have a CF piece that fits into my rear bumper that needs retouched as it is old & has several bubbles/cracks that have come out with age.

Very good job! I will do the same with a rear spoiler as it seems so difficult to find workshops to repair carbon fiber. Today I sanded and polished a rear spoiler and it looks pretty good now. A couple of areas where I had to sand more now look slightly yellower, why could that be?

Damn good job. Idk if I have the balls to do this myself. I got a bad rock chip on my cf hood that’s quite noticeable. Idk I might end up making it worse..

Any local hardware or auto paint supply store should have a clear epoxy

IIRC, I remember reading (hearing?) that you should apply a clear coat over epoxy as it acts as a bit of a sunscreen to prolong the life of the epoxy in UV light.

If there was uv specific clear. The resin choice should be one that says it's uv blocking. Clear coat is not gonna stick forever

How come an overn wasn't used? Won't' that be a weak resin even if it cures hard (hard but weak)? Thank you.

This isn’t a structural piece and the crack was just on the top layer of resin, Heat won’t improve strength unless the resin you use requires a specific heat range to achieve correct cure time. If you wanted to get a stronger bond for something structural ideally you would want to draw the resin through the fiber with vacuum or push the resin through with some kind of injection method and or what most people do is just add more layers on the back side to to spread load.

@@jumpgarage Thanks. What brand of epoxy resin do you use (and series in that brand)? I hope someone has made a video on a small DIY autoclave (a vacuum chamber-"pressure cooker" combo) using a household pressure cooker :-)

How does it hold up? Any discolouration from UV light? Will it reduce the ripple effect if I sand around the edge of the chipped area.

It appears to be 5 minute epoxy, which is not a good epoxy to use. You can see it went on yellow, and since it has no UV inhibitors built in, it will crack and yellow in the sun. Isn’t epoxy flammable? When do I hit it with the torch like 10 minutes into it hardening ?

You could. I recommend a marine outboard brand clear in a spray can. It's the best out there. Really though people don't clear coat fiberglass, so I would just focus on surface treatment like wax or ceramic
