In this video we'll go through step by step guide on how to replace valve cover on F80 BMW M3, also applies to F82 M4 of course. The process is very similar to N55 engine found in F30/32 335i/435i as well as other bmws with N55. The big difference on S55 engine is that you have to remove slightly more components
Thank you for watching

Used your video recently to replace the valve cover due to faulty pcv valve on my 2016 F80 at 85k miles. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill!
I just followed your video to the T to replace the Valve cover on my 15’ M4. Thanks for putting this out here. Saved myself $2,000.

@@javierjimenez3627Still beats paying BMW $3383 quote for the dealer to work on my car. I bought the parts and paid my seasoned mechanic friend to help me the labor. The Valve Cover alone is $740 on FCP Euro w/ life warranty guarantee replacement. Still way less then paying BMW to work on my M4.

Great video! Did this job a few weeks ago and would say there’s no need to drain the coolant or remove the charge cooler. Just loosen the clamp on the U pipe, pop up the cooler and put something under it to keep it up.
@anthonyvillalpando1694

Was it not harder to remove and install the valve cover skipping this step? Is there enough play in the pipes to move it safely?
@kriegaufkreuz2120

@@anthonyvillalpando1694 Not harder at all. There's loads of slack in the pipes at the front of the cooler. You do however need to pop it out of the U pipe. I replaced the 2 fuel pressure sensors and I did have to remove the cooler for that.
Excellent as always !! 100-100 BMW Gods lol great vid Tim!!

@@Zeiten Hi Tim, your longer versions, surely had/has advantages for sure,Remember, you have to realize that cater to many many people,that may be/ are very elementary (no offense to anyone), this has advantages!, so because you went into "minute details", which was still really really good and shows how detailed and "in depth" information you has attained working on your BMW specifics!! So no worries they we not boring by any means!! great sir! keep doin what you do besttt!!ty
Awesome video!! Many thanks, you make it look easy. I will give this a shot soon.

Just finished the job earlier today, everything went as described. Even threw in some spark plugs while in there. Took about 8 hours but I was taking my sweet time. Most challenging part was trying to lift the intercooler 😅 anyways just wanted to come back and say thanks again! Couldn’t not have done it without your help!

It is said that the clicking noise on the side comes from a badly torqued exhaust camshaft. Have you done the retorque procedure? Do you know which is the correct torque or where might this problem come from? Thanks!
Thank you

Hi mate, are there any specific torque specs to follow when putting it all back together?
I wish I knew this was going to happen, now no warranty paying over 5k at the dealer LOL. What is the usual maintenance window for valve cover and charge air cooler (started to leak)
great video. would feel safe to have you change it on our m4

My breather/vent tube is stuck. You took it off at 7:29 very easily. Did your hose not have quad locks in it? How did you take it off?
Thanks!

how long can i Drive the vehicle without it being an issue. Waiting on the valve cover but need to drive it
the old one looks fine, is it cracked or?
4:40 I don’t think you have to remover the charge air cooler expansion tank, they can be taken off along with the unit

I finished the repair on Tuesday. After the completion, the engine compartment of the vehicle started to smoke. I thought I had messed up and was very frustrated. After inspection, it was found that it was caused by the evaporation of the detergent used to clean the oil stain. At present, everything is normal. Thank you for your previous N55 video. I tried it. It's really tiring to shoot and explain while working.

In the next step, I plan to replace the generator, but the entire KZread does not share the tutorial video of replacing the S55 motor. I hope to find it on your channel next🤩
Hey excellent video! Recently my PCV went bad and my ‘16 M3 makes that whining noise at idle when warm. Took to my local BMW dealer yesterday praying it would be covered under 7/70 or 8/80 emissions warranty but they say no because it’s Virginia, not California or other states that do CA emissions. They quoted me $2300 for the job (valve cover replacement). In your opinion how many hours should it take a BMW tech to complete this? They’re saying 8 hours 😮 Ps- my car is a 3/16 build and 67k miles.
@Zeiten
Жыл бұрын
Well, depends on skill, i do it in about 2-3 hours. The quote you got is pretty good by California standards, and regarding hours to complete the job usually shops take estimated time lets say 4 hours in this case and double it, and I don’t blame them at all, estimated hours don’t get into account shop’s rent and bills and local laws etc

my bmw dealer charged almost $4000, why are the charges wildly different and quoted 12 hr job??
@m3pilot19

@@NuclearShot because they figure most people won’t challenge them on it. 12hrs to replace a valve cover is absurd. Go somewhere else.
@mikemata623

@@NuclearShot warranty pay time for M3 valve cover is 6.7 If the vehicle is out of warranty, the dealer takes the warranty pay time and multiplies it by whatever labor coefficient is allowed by BMW for that dealer. For my dealer it's around 10.7 hours to replace it if it's out of warranty
Wish I found this video on how to remove the fuel rail to replace my injectors all to EU5s.. couldn’t find anything for the fuel rail.. I ended up not removing the charge cooler or fuel rail to do all six of them.. 😅
seems like this would be a good time to do the crankhub fix as well?

Thank you for the video! Do I need to change the whole cover or can I just change the gasket?
@Zeiten

I would recommend to replace the whole thing since it has built in pcv and if it gets clogged there is no way of cleaning it so save yourself some trouble of doing this job again and replace valve cover

I did this but afterwards are getting misfires in cylinder 5 & 6. I moved around the coils and spark plugs, but still keep getting the misfires in 5 & 6. Does anybody have any idea of what could be wrong?
@Zeiten

Probably pinched valve cover gasket in the back, also check your ground connection in the middle between coils

@@Zeiten, thank you for you response. I took it off again, checked super carefully when putting it back in, torqued in correct order, mounted everything back. But still... same issue. Coils and plugs have been switched around so I've ruled those out. Any advice on next step in troubleshooting? The only two ideas however far-fetched they might be, is that there is dirt in the fuel injectors (but both of them...?!?) or that the cable to the coils/ground got damaged.

I ffinally figured it out with some professional help, so for the sake of others that might end up in this situation. I had faulty new bosch oem spark plugs. One had a loose porcelain, the others were causing misfires. Pulled em out and the new ngk plugs fixed it all.
Привет, Тим, хороший английский уже у тебя. Есть проблема с моей BMW E92, возможно подскажешь. Когда переезжаю лежачие полицеские передний мост издает такой шум. Но когда длительное время погода сухая - шум исчезает. When I run over speed bumps, the front axle makes such a noise. But when the weather is dry for a long time, the noise disappears. What could it be, give me a clue. kzread.info/dash/bejne/paaV15SnZqTZgNY.html
