I clicked like because this is the greatest idea in the history of providing for small dependent creatures that have the instinct to provide for themselves without the burden of doing so for a living. Bravo! I followed your instructions here four times and regained 4 minutes per day from the task of watering all my animals and cleaning the bowls. That's a half hour every week! Two hours on an average month. Hell, that's enough time to find a hobby or adopt and raise a new pet! Brilliant!

I made one today. Inexpensive, simple, sturdy, and easily serviceable. It’s an elegant solution. I think it’s fantastic. No more of me constantly filling the indoor bowl/dispenser and wiping water off the wood floor. Rikku is over the moon about her new robo water dispenser. The kiddos love it because now their water table no longer doubles as Rikku’s outdoor water source. 4 years later and this content is still helping the community. Cheers, Chris.

If you have a power outlet nearby (and some shelter to protect the motor from rain), grab an Aqua-tech 5-15 Aquarium Power Filter for around $16 at Walmart. Set up the filter so the intake and outflow are inside the covered area with the float. We've replaced smaller water bowls around the house with a few 2- and 3-gallon Rubbermaid tubs and aquarium filters for our house pets and they help keep the water moving and much fresher.

So I just made this today.. very straight forward etc.. thank you for the excellent video and inspiration to make something rather than just buy one. Only thing I did different was use the original float that was removed from the shaft. I just popped it back onto the float arm like it was supposed too,, only with the float free to lift as the water rises. Next time I will make the inlet hole a little higher as my bulldogs are a little bit too short.. I also only sliced out the portion of the top to fold down leaving the rim of the lid to clamp on as per design. AS it is coming into summer I will be making a pond for them with this method.

While many are saying that it's easier, and most likely cheaper, to use a swamp cooler float valve, I'd agree. But perhaps many didn't even know what a swamp cooler float valve is (actually more technically known as an "evaporative cooler float valve" is (about $10 at Home Depot, Lowes, etc, and doesn't require any modification like the toilet tank float valve in the video). BUT, having found this gentleman's video, finding it interesting, and reading the comments, one would now know that you can go build this even easier and cheaper than the video, which is great and will encourage more to go build DIY fresh watering bins. Kudos to Chris Notap.

Ok, lots of these DIY videos are useless. BUT this one is amazing. I have 2 large dogs. And this is such a handy DIY. I especially like that it is a large/heavy enough tote. My dogs are assholes and insist on tipping over the fresh bowl and then staring at me to ‘just keeping playing the game’. The game being - I fill the bowl, they empty it. My only solution was a kiddie pool, but that doesn’t provide fresh clean water. Cleaning the pool is a waste and not convenient. Thank you for this wonderful life hack. Me and my dogs appreciate it. * I’ve decided to copy this with 1 change. I’m adding a small ‘seepage’ hole in the bottom corner of the bin. This will cause the valve to let fresh water in by allowing the water to slowly drain. If hole is too big simply put a screw in it (water can still escape). Point to this is fresher water if I’m away for a longer period of time. * also appears to be a lot of water just so the valve functions. Putting ceramic tiles in the bottom of the drinking area means less water required yet still maintaining an adequate supply for my pups. (Also weights the tub to stop dogs from carrying or flipping it)
