Organic, homemade, healthy, preservative-free dog treats. Our cuddly, furry pets deserve only the best, and I think EVERYONE would agree.
In this DIY video, I dehydrate chicken and add a tiny pinch of flavor for our doggos. You can use beef as well, but whichever meat you choose, make sure there is no fat! Trim the fat off or have your butcher do this for you. Jerky is healthy for your puppies and is good for their teeth, regardless of their age.
Like most living things, dogs need salt to help balance fluids and keep nerves functioning properly. Dogs naturally need sodium as part of an electrolyte balance, so small amounts of salt aren't bad for my dog. Consult a vet before changing your dog's diet. Because I don't feed my dog as much conventional dog food, which has added sodium, I add my own sodium. You don't have to follow this advice, and again, consult a veterinarian before you change their diet.

WARNING~~ Sugar is unhealthy for dogs and should not be part of their diet. While sugar isn't toxic, it can cause stomach upset, weight gain, diabetes, tooth problems, and other health issues. Yes, dogs can eat salt in small quantities, but too much can be dangerous and lead to salt toxicosis, also known as hypernatremia. Salt is an essential nutrient for dogs, helping to regulate body fluids and support muscle and nerve function. However, a toxic dose of salt for dogs is 1.5 grams per pound of body weight, and typical dog food already contains 0.3% salt and never never give them food with salt or that has been preserve in salty liquids like canned green beans. (read the label of the cans) Salt aka Sodium is the same thing. Avoid feeding your dog high-salt foods as it can lead to salt poisoning. High salt consumption can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures in dogs and most importantly organ failure. Love can kill if you do not know what u are doing

I'm definitely going to try this, a friend of ours sent us some pictures through messenger of him dehydrating chicken gizzards, livers and hearts. They might like that also. I'm going to experiment with some other seasonings as well, just simple things. Another thing we noticed about all three of our dogs is that they love original style Mingua beef jerky, it is marinated in soy sauce, brown sugar and liquid smoke. The teriyaki style ingredients are a bit more complicated although the main ingredients in it is teriyaki sauce and molasses. I just think it will be interesting to experiment with different rubs and marinades to hopefully find the magic potion. 😊

This is nice, I need to buy a dehydrator. As of now I slice my dogs chicken the same way you did only I put them on drying racks in the oven starting at 350°, then gradually decrease temp all the way down to 170°. Then I flip them and I leave them on 170° for about 1.5hrs so they get chewy. The whole process takes about 3.5hrs. I would use a dehydrator but found out I can make a lot more in the oven and with less time. Do they make bigger dehydrators?

I had the same question. My dehydrator is older and you can roll the dial to different heat settings. The one she showed from Amazon says it has a preset temperature of 165 degrees. That seems kind of low. So maybe we could get away with less time at a higher temperature. I do my human jerky that way.

@@moodyblewis5881 Hi Moody! Yes, that's an option. 165 is just fine, and after running for a day or two, the jerky comes out excellent! It's perfect because the meat cooks slowly and steadily, preventing it from drying out. If you go too hot, it will dry out quickly. Have fun!

I have an Excaliber dehydrator and do this professionally, you absolutely don’t need salt and sugar lol How is that more healthy? Just time 12-22 hours of time depending on the meat , thinly sliced meat or fish with little to no fat on it. Can last up to 3 months in a airtight class jar stored at room temperature or in the freezer or refrigerator. If you air tight seal it for storage in Mylar bags that works too just keep it in a cool dark and dry location.

Salt nor sugar are recommended for dogs. They can't tolerate salt the way humans can because it can lead to the dog becoming dehydrated. There are many herbs that are beneficial to dogs but salt and sugar are not. Try using turmeric, rosemary, or ginger which are healthy for dogs.

Hi Jerry, thanks so much for your viewership and contribution!

Agreed. I study canine nutrition. My specialty is Leaky Gut. In raw feeding sugar and salt is an added no no. Any holistic vet will agree. This was too hard to watch. I quit half way. Any dog with yeast issus should not use this recipe at all. Chicken is quite an inflammatory and not recommended for dogs with issues.

Agreed. Natural salt and sugars come already in the food you choose to feed. Maybe it’s not in your chicken so you should add fruits for sugars or something …. But that salt and sugar is just a big no no! Just like us humans we should get natural sugars from foods that naturally create it already … do not add sugar ! It’s good to feed your dog natural but adding that just made it a little worse.

This was my personal decision, you don’t have to do exactly as I do. I don’t buy traditional dog food, which has salt like minerals added. So I personally add my own because salts are necessary for brain function in a matter what kind of animal or human you are. They’re naturally found in dirt, and dogs eat food in the dirt. Always consult your vet before making any dietary changes for your pets
