DIY - DISK SWAP SRAM TO HOPE ON MY 2018 KONA WOZO FAT BIKE

Спорт

Swapping out the ugly SRAM rotors and replacing them with some sweet HOPE rotors. This video will show you what I had to modify to make the HOPE rotors fit on my 2018 Kona Wozo.
A few people have asked me about getting "Old Man ~ Fat Bike" stickers. You can purchase a small (3" x 1.44") sticker for $2.50 or the large (4" x 1.91") sticker for $4.00. If you would like to order one or more please visit the the following link;
www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...
Once I see the transaction I can contact you via email and get your mailing address and find out exactly which sticker or stickers you want.
Entire video shot with the GoPro Hero 8.

    The good ole wood shim multi tool! Ha! You were just testing us when you put the rear wheel in backwards. Great job! I'm guessing that the Hope rotors are similar to the super duper Shimano SLX in that the inner assembly is for heat dissipation (though I'm a total amateur) My original rotor--Sram--causes the magic fingers paint shaker effect on my front brake on the Santa Cruz Chameleon so I'm on the upgrade path there too very soon. Even though she's not a true fat bike, I got a 29+ tire and wheel installed up front and it is a dream to ride. Like a magic carpet, except for the magic fingers...soon to be fixed.

    Thanks a bunch for checking out my little DIY video. I also appreciate your comment and I "HOPE" your upgrades go well @James Wilkins!! I can't talk about heat dissipation, brake fade, or any other brake mumbojumbo as I only replaced these rotors because of the aesthetics. If you've seen any of my video you'll see, by no means, am I a "high performance rider" I ride for the fun of it. PEACE...

    @@OldManFatBike Absolutely! Same here. I am lucky to have great folks at two different bike shops that tolerate my idiosyncrasies like raising the stem and installing oversize flat pedals etc. Pedals, I can do myself. That, and their prices are very reasonable overall. Getting a decent price for the Chameleon, meant that some upgrades can be a welcome addition. Even though I'm not hardcore, I still find myself on (still mostly paved) paths where top notch braking is important. Somebody STOP ME!!!

    Hey Man! I'm another old man fat, bike rider. First new bike in years. You inspire me with your evolving skills to try some new skills myself. For now I'm sticking to some wilderness gravel/camp trips into the wilds of Maine where I live. I'm next to the White Mountain National Forest and so have many trails and gravel forest fire roads to bike and camp. If your ever up in Maine, look me up! You can camp on my mountain if you want. Plenty of fatbuking here. Peace Brother!

    I had the Hope Tech rotors, but they can creak after few years, long before braking surface gets too thin. So 2 or 3 or 4 years they might creak. But I liked these rotors the creaking was the only thing I did not like, they perform well, stay cooler than same sized regular rotor, and ar elighter, and have slow wear, bite well, are quite quiet.

    Always ensure you keep your hands away from the rotor contact surface. Every time you touch them you are introducing contamination and a compromised braking surface. If you touch them, always make sure you clean both the discs and the pads with Isopropyl cleaner.

    You should have used washers made for this, or bash guides/chain guides, bash guard, as they fit. No filing needed. Also you should not need to file down the caliper, atlead tnot on Shimano, but I doubt you had to with your brakes. Brake caliper should be moved until it does not hit, I fyou can't get it aligned to not hit, you can let one of the pads go out further. Using a Hayes Feel'R tool makes the job easier, a syou can use the tool to space the pad right, and also, use the tool, between at the rivet to make sure there is enough clearance, onc eyou do, you check alignment, tighten bolts, put tool on the braking surface roll wheel in, so the sheets at between pad and rotor, lock the brake, tighten bolts, check.
