I spoke to a Toyota technician and recommended this for maintenance. TACOMA MAINTENANCE Transmission fluid - every 60k miles or 6yrs Coolant flush - every 50k miles Differential and transfer case - every 30k mi Brake fluid- every 3-5 years Power steering fluid - 50-70k miles Spark plugs - 60k miles (oem plugs strongly recommend)

Don’t forget to lubricate your propeller shaft every 1-2 years. Or around 15-30K miles. And more often if you tow. Most dealers miss that important piece of maintenance, and a lot of service advisors don’t even know what a propellor shaft is.

I’m about to do my rear and front differential oils. And the transfer case. Mine is a 2011. It looks like it’s brand new. My father in law purchased it new and gave it to me when he was diagnosed. 70 K on it. Great video Chloe. Thanks so much
I like your videos. Already know how to change the rear and front diff, but always good to see how other people do it. And your other videos are helpful to see a person attempt/complete DIY mods. Thanks.
If you have 4WD don’t forget to change your transfer case gear oil too, also THE DRAIN/FILL PLUGS ARE SO TIGHT definitely recommend a breaker bar

Simple and to the point,Thanks I forgot all about the crush washer, good looking Tacoma. I just had my Tacoma Inspected at the dealership, they wanted $299 for a new serpentine belt,$350 for new plugs, $299 for rear and front diff change and heres the the topper, I tried to get my spare tire down but its locked up,rusted so i asked if they could take a look at it and give me a price well they charge 1 hour at $150 ,so all this work would be over 1 grand, to do it yourself maybe $150. These videos have saved me so much money, thanks Chloe
I was quoted today 440 for both. My truck is a 2011. 75k. I’m doing it myself Today they changed my transmission fluid. Took 3 gallons and $440. They have the machine to suck out all the old fluid. It’s already shifting better. Great video. Thank you for posting
you do a great job making these videos Chloe. I look forward to them
Great job, amazing videos! You can also drill a hole into the cap of the diff fluid that is the same size as your pump hose. Then slide pump hose through hole in cap, it'll help it stay in the bottom of the bottle a bit easier. Adapt and Overcome!!
This is the exact video I was looking for. I'm due for this maintenance :)
Always great videos. Love it when one pops up from you. Thanks
Super cool. Thanks for the video. I have a 21 that will need the same work done soon.
You are the best part of Tacoma ownership, Chloe. Your videos are both informative and fun to watch. Very well done. 👍
Good job I never thought to mark the fill plug to get it back tight good idea 👍
Great video! Thank you. Not sure if you have one mentioning to check the rear diff vent valve before? Good to make sure it's not full of dirt or seized while your underneath. It causes the axel seals to leak from to much pressure built up and the full plug will be really hard to get out. It's around $20.00 CND very easy to change and could save alot in the long run.
Excellent as always, Chloe 👍
That was great information. Thanks for mentioning torque specs and fluid amounts! :))
Super easy and you saved a ton of money!! Good job.......

Funny how dealers vary on basically everything.. My current dealer charges 92 dollars per diff and that's Canadian. My previous dealer charges 150 per diff. Regardless I still plan to do myself. Form the rear, if you remove your spare tire, no only can you sit under the truck without jacking it up, you don't need a fluid pump for, just fyi. As usual, great video 🤙
Just picked up a 2014 TRD Offroad 4x4 the other month. Even though it only has 18k miles, 9 year old fluids don’t sound good to me 😐 Thanks for the great tutorial!

Great video! I noticed that you have 3ea of one type and 1ea of another crush washer listed in your parts used section. Which plug gets the off washer? It might be obvious to tell when looking at it, but haven’t got to the task just yet. Thanks!
I never see a reply from you so I don't know if you read the comments, but the sealed tranny is no big deal. Check out the Car Care Nut channel, he's a pro Toyota mechanic. He has two videos on how to do the transmission fluid. If you can change oil, you can do it.
I still don’t know much about when it comes tacomas but all the videos that you made so far, are they tied to just a specific version of a Tacoma, like just your 2019 TRD off road, or can anything you’ve shown so far be done across all other (gen3 I think?) tacomas? Also I hope this doesn’t sound rude but I never really know which Tacoma you’re working since you have a 2019 and a 2020 so I’m always confused which ones gets worked on so if you can say which one it is, that would be great 🥲😅
Good to know. Thanks.
I would HIGHLY recommend a plastic measuring cup from Home Depot. Pour ALL of whatever capacity in the container, clip the suction tube to the side. This avoids your individual bottles from falling over, plus the drip when you change bottles.
Hi...make a hole in the cap of the diff oil bottle big enough for your hose to fit through. Then you won't have to hold both ends of the hose.
Great video Chloe, couple of tips for you and your viewers... the crush washers you get comes in a kit, steel crush washers go on the rear dif. Drain & fill plugs. The front dif. Takes a steel crush washer on the fill plug and a copper crush washer goes on the drain plug. If your also changing the transfer case oil, it will use aluminum crush washers on the drain & fill plugs. Also I use a pump up style fluid transfer pump made by "Motive products power fill transfer fluids" I bought off Amazon with a ball valve shut off I added. Pour the recommended amount of oil in the tank, pump it up and turn on the ball valve, no mess no fuse. Keep up the great videos! 👍

Thank Clhoe you tha best
How about the transfer case? Does it need oil change too? 🙂
Dang about time 🤣 I remember commenting when you first starting posting videos. We can tell your diff never touch any river crossing, that oil is still good. Ours were already dark at 9K miles, it was like “Putik”. Definitely a DIY, save money 💰,
What mileage did you change the differentials????
Where do you get the torque specs for your vehicles?
Right now (July 2024) gen-u-wine Toyota fluid is $50 per liter, so that's a big chunk of the dealer charge. Of course, dealers use cheaper brand, bulk fluids, and still charge the same price.
Yeah dealerships charge way too much for that. Thanks but, no thanks I’ll change it myself
When I did my rear diff for my first time man it took me an hour its easy but it was my first time doing it.
Do you use crush washer for drain plug as well?it looks like a flat one that may be for fill plug?
Cool... try the amsoil bladder packs, they are really nice to fill with.... wait as typing this you just said that ;) 5:45
I had to get my fronts drain bolt replaced (used GX HEX replacement) since it was seized to high heaven and ended up welding a bolt to it since it stripped out the hex socket.
Nice video. Do you have a link to the hand pump?
I know that you said that you like the pouches instead of the pump and bottle but do you have the clearance to pour the bag into a funnel?
What compass do you have on your watch? I have a suunto but it's uncomfortable

Did you had a problem doing the transmission flush ? Many Toyota locations won’t do because it’s supposedly seal for life
What gear oil for a 19 with a manual transmission. I heard don’t use GL-5 but GL-4 only? most brands say they are good for both. Another KZread tech Chanel said do not use GL-5.

I got one from Autozone, the only bad thing is it didn’t pump EVERY single thing from the bottle, so what we did was just pump in a new bottle and eventually it the differential filled up thank god
@chloekuo Make sure to change your transfer case fluid as well. There is a specific Toyota 75W transfer case fluid you can get from sparks parts the detergents in regular gear oil can be harmful to the seals in the transfer case. 🤙🏻
@agfa663

The Toyota oil is 75W80. They put that one so it had a little less resistance so fuel economy has a slight advantage at the governmement fuel economy restriction benchmark. It has nothing to do with the detergents. Full Synthetic 75W90 is what you need.

Appreciate the videos... DIY is a necessity in my area for my Tacoma unfortunately... First service at 5k miles went to my local Toyota dealer for an oil change (Pauly Toyota in Crystal Lake IL in case you're in the area), came back with a leaky oil filter housing since they didn't seem to seat the o-ring properly, scratched 2 of my wheels by apparently laying them face down, soaked my alternator with oil that they apparently splashed somehow when filling, and didn't properly torque my lug nuts! Both passenger side wheels had a couple nuts that were free spinning when I got home! All for a simple oil change and tire rotation. So yeah, I certainly won't be letting them touch my diff, who knows what they'll jack up.

Where did you get your pump to change your differential fluid?
Good morning young lady, I'm John Chan the fisherman. Just a tad older than you. Now 54 years old and getting a lot wiser. Highly educated but a car mechanic. I watch KZread and change my own fluids. Such as engine oil, transmission fluid, differiental oil, steering fluid, last but not least the brake fluid. This fluid is very important on cars older than 5 years old. At this moment I own 7 batteries, yes I conduct batteries mantainace on them adding distilled water every few months. Try to save money on batteries. The boat has two batteries, you can fill in the blank. Like your video, oh yeah I've been doing my own fluid for 3 years since all my kids moved out to college. Thanks
