I've been having fun making concrete pumpkins this past week! It's the perfect, long-lasting fall decoration for your home & garden! I figured out an easy, quick way to make them with very little supplies or expense... pretty much the do-it-yourself-ers dream!
Here's what I used for this project:
Paper Mache Pumpkins (I got mine at JoAnns Craft stores tinyurl.com/khsrpar)
-Concrete Mix
-Water
-Scissors, Trowel, Butter Knife
-2 containers for scooping both wet and dry concrete mix (I used a glass measuring cup and doubled up solo cups)
-1 piece of stiff paper
-Strong tape
If you liked this project, please share it with your friends!

Nice project. I think my wife will like these. Couple suggestions. Drill small holes (1/8 in. or less) in all the higher parts of the pumpkin body to release air. Use the handle of your knife to tap/vibrate the upper sections.

I would use the plastic jack-o'-lantern with the strap on top like a pail. By the way the Pyrex measuring cup you are using is made in our sister company and printed where I work. I make corelle dinnerware in Corning, NY.

These are gorgeous! Just a tip, don't forget safety glasses and gloves when you work with cement! A concrete sealer will prolong the life of your pumpkins, and there are stains for concrete, too.

I would suggest using cement rather than concrete. Cement doesn't have all the gravel and rocks in it so it would fill crevices better and be smoother. Just my two cents.

On the top of the concrete pumpkin when you do the stem, get 3 pieces of straight rigid wire curl both ends push 3 in to the cement pumpkin leave about 1inch above for stem. then do stem, makes it good and strong. then paint them make sure you seal them up good, with the winter freeze on top will start to crack them. Then if you want to put 2 pieces of PVC through the mould where the eyes would be, when dry turn them out then 2 small lights through the back

  • @Imaginos9

    @Imaginos9

    6 жыл бұрын

You can buy all the stuff for hypertufa at a store like Home Depot. According to Home Depot you mix hypertufa yourself using: (mix dry parts thoroughly) 1.5 parts Sphagnum peat moss 1.5 parts Perlite 1 part Portland cement 1 part water (really just add water until it's clay/cottage cheese like) Doing a google search for hypertufa mix will show you some variations on the mixture and other ingredients you can use or substitute. For instance you may mix all 3 at a 1 to 1 ratio to be a bit stronger/more durable.

I just tried this project and wow, I'm having a hard time removing the paper mache. It's not coming off anywhere near as easily as yours does in the video. Did you put any kind of a release (like cooking oil/spray - I've seen people do that on plastic molds) on the inside of the pumpkin before you added the cement? My cured pumpkin is currently soaking in water and I'm hoping I'll be able to remove the mache that way. I used the same paper mache pumpkin from JoAnns.

True but the pumpkins are more than two inches thick, so cement could crack and concrete is used. I plan on buying a cement and sand mix, than add perlite. You posted your comment a year ago, but your suggestions are welcome, because I also struggle with the rough look of concrete.
