This would vary a little bit depending on the time of year. In the summer time, it's usually ready to seal with in 24hrs. If the temps are cooler, it could take 2-3 days. Thin overlays like this will cure out a lot faster then full thickness concrete, which we recommend waiting 5-7 days before sealing. The job in this video was done in the spring time, and we waited 3 days, just to be safe. The best advise we can give is to wait until the overlay has taken on a uniform color and fully hardened. I'm resurfacing my old cement pool deck. After mixing about 10 half buckets using the same bucket a 1 1/2" hole was created in the bottom center of bucket. It happened in an area that was not masked and ready to be poured. Be careful not reuse a plastic bucket too many times.

I didn't realize it was so simple, I have an old 10x14 car port parking concrete slab that has some nasty cracks in it, dimples etc that would be nice to just simply overlay with concrete.

That would definitely work!!! You could fix the cracks with Quik Fix (also pretty easy to use), I'll leave a link at the bottom. Trowel overlay can be applied up to 1/8th inch per coat. you could do multiple coats to get to a 1/2in build or you could use easy patch or stamp overlay which can be applied at 3/8 in per coat and then finish with trowel overlay.

yes you can definitely do that. pour the fresh concrete and let it cure our for 30 days before you overlay the entire area.

My back patio was covered with "Acrylic Modified Cement" and it has held up well BUT after having a rug on the patio it now has the remnants of the latex rug pad embedded on the surface. Can Deco-Crete Trowel Overlay be applied over my existing surface or will I have to remove it before applying your product?

Yes Deco-Crete Trowel overlay will work fine as long as there is not a heavy buildup of sealer. You would just need to thoroughly pressure wash the surface and apply Sure Bond 100 before the overlay.

So I flip houses. And this is perfect to resurface the concrete where the foundation company did repairs and filled where they did the repairs. It makes an ugly square patch. I could definitely grind that area and apply this overlay and it would make that concrete look brand new. We also can repair driveway cracks and then use this too rather than replacing the whole driveway. Could save me a ton of money. Thank you so much.

My contractor, when applying the cement overlay, mixed the quikcrete concrete bonding adhesive WITH the white cement, and then applied it over the grinded/sanded concrete slab (cleaned of course). Is that wrong? Will that create some problems for my floor in the future?

Thanks for the comment!!! This would depend on overlay product they used. Some overlay systems require adding polymer (bonding agent) to the overlay mix along with water. The Deco-Crete overlay mix we used in this video is a just add water mix, and the liquid polymer is use as the bonding primer. The method they use is not necessary wrong, but if the mix had dry polymer and directions said to just add water, the mix may be hard to work with, but I haven't seen this cause any problems down the road. The only way to know for sure would be to contact the manufacturer of the overlay and see what they say about it. Thanks for checking out our channel👍

I noticed that you applied Sure Bond before the Easy Patch and then again before your first Overlay coat. Is it necessary/ recommended to apply Sure Bond again before applying the second coat of Overlay? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the comment! Yes, we do recommend priming between each coat. This ensures a good bond, but it also makes the next coat easier to work with. If you put the next coat on without any primer, it'll suck the moisture out really fast and it's hard to keep up with. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!

It would be best to get it all off. If you leave to much behind, you may be able to see it in the final product. Thanks for the comment! How thick do you plan on pouring the concrete? If it's at least 2"-3" thick, you could use our Deco-Crete 5000 mix. The best way to handle the sides would be to form it like a curb. It would work to stack it and hand-shape the curb, but forms would make things a lot easier. Thanks for the comment!!! Recoating your patio with this overlay is definitely an option. What is the reason for recoating? If the original is still bonded well to the surface and you just want to update the look, all you need to do is properly clean the area and use the Sure Bond 100 primer before applying the new overlay. If the existing overlay is failing (deteriorating, peeling, flaking.....), then you should proceed with some cation. The new layer will cover the old one up just fine, but if the original is starting to come off, the new layer won't stop that from continuing to happen, and both of them will come off together. If this is the case, the best thing would be to remove the existing overlay and apply the new layer directly to the concrete. These products perform similar to concrete when it comes to ice melt, the sealer does protect it but you should still be cautious. Depending on what sealer is used, it can add slipperiness, however deco grip can solve this problem. You should remove the tile first.

Have a potential project whereby an inexperienced contractor sealed multiple cracks of various lengths and widths (hairline to 1/4"+) with some sort of acrylic-like joint sealer that has deteriorated and in addition, he put some sort of concrete paint, possibly an acrylic paint and the driveway now a couple of years later looks like 'bleep'! What might be your recommendation as to how to deal with this? If it involves any kind of grinding or sandblasting, forgetaboutit! I'll pass on the project. Nice older couple, who def got ripped off by some hacker and so I'd like to help them out if I can w/o getting too crazy with the project.

in order to do an overlay like this you would need to completely remove all the paint on the surface which would probably require sandblasting. Also it would be a good idea to re address the cracks if the current filler is deteriorating. please let us know if you have any other questions!

It all depends on the experience level of your crew & what brand of overlay mix you're using. If this is new to you guys, I would say you should have at least 4-5 guys for that. 1 to mix, 1 to take the overlay from the mixing area to the slab, and 2-3 to put it down & stamp. The Deco-Crete Stamp Overlay is usually ready to stamp within an hour in the summertime. Afternoons can go even faster if the slab has been sitting in the sun all day and the slab temp is high. A big thing is to get down fast so you have plenty of time to stamp. Kind of like pouring concrete, taking too long to put it down will get you behind and you'll be chasing it the rest of the way. Will this work over painted concrete surfaces?

This is a common question we get, and unfortunately the paint would need to removed before applying the overlay. This system is not designed to bond to paint, and the paint could cause a weak spot. If the paint ever decided to come loose, the overlay would not hold it down and it would all peel up together. Thanks for watching!!!

How does the D1 sealer compare to Super Diamond Clear or Brickfrom GemSeal?

D1 is lower viscosity for better penetration. It also has an active water repellant ingredient which makes it a penetrating and topical sealer all in one. It's not commonly used on bathroom walls, but it would definitely work. Use the same Sure Bond 100 for a primer just like in the video. You could even use some grout tape to create a tile pattern if you wanted. For an application like that, we would also recommend using some kind of high-performance coating to protect it instead of concrete sealer. Great video, my house has an interior epoxy overlay that has developed some cracks over the years, what product do you recommend to fill those to prevent them from blistering? Is there a specific caulk I should use? Thank you!

Thanks for the comment! As for a specific caulking, I would see if the manufacture of the original coating has any recommendations. Clear 100% silicone could work depending on how thick the repair needs to be. You could also apply a new topcoat of our Rock Hard Urethane, it would freshen up the existing coating and fill in the cracks. Some of this would depend on what kind of coating is there, and how deep the cracks are. At the very least, sanding the current epoxy would be required to get the new coat to bond. Any info on the exact epoxy used for the floor would be helpful. Thanks for watching!!!!

The product in this video is a thin overlay, and it would be considered a micro-topping, but it's a bit thicker than our normal micro-topping. This lets you create more texture for outdoor projects. Thanks for the comment! That's a little bit of a gray area. The recommended thing would be to remove the tile and apply the overlay to bare concrete. That being said, there are certain situations where it would work to go over tile. Getting the overlay to bond would be the first thing. This would depend on what type of tile you're dealing with (ceramic or VTC), and if you're able to grind it down to knock off the finish & open up the pores. The other thing to remember is that the overlay is only as good as what you put it on. Even if you get a good bond, there's always a chance that the tiles could loosen up down the road, and the overlay would come up with them. Going over tile would require some extra steps & and there are no guarantees. If this is for a DIY project & you understand what the downsides are, it can definitely be an option. If this is a job for a customer, we recommend removing the tile for long-lasting results. Thanks for watching!!!!
