Look at you gettin' all fancy shmancy! So fun to watch the progression & sharpening of your ideas and carpentry skills! And you made it from mostly leftover materials too. This may be the first of many more of this design to come. Super nice & matches the expanded green house. Now you've got a really nice aesthetic design taking shape in the garden. It'll be nice to look at when you pull up to the house!👍

Good job on the cold frame. My parents use to start their tomatoes and cabbage in a cold frame worked great for them.

Thanks, James! and that is interesting. I will have to look into that, I just worry that it might be too cold up here even with the frame.

We were zone 6 b. And they sowed seed in March. The tomato plants were small but took off once transplanted.

I built a greenhouse from an old car park. And clear plastic worked great, but too hot in summer, and we just kinda ran out of time to plant much this spring.

You might want to research how Elliot Coleman used a low tunnel inside a high tunnel to successfully grow greens all winter long in Maine. I’m wondering if your cold frame would fit in your greenhouse. It might require 2 brother tractors. Push the Zone! Cheers

Fired up your brother tractor 🚜 😂 That’s a good brand, btw. Just learned about cold-frame gardening- love the aesthetic of yours you created! 👏🏼 I’m a wanna-be gardener (have been more of an “experienced” house-plant Mama)- I enjoy planting a few seeds of veggies for fun! Especially ones 🌱 from my childhood overseas. What zone are you in? I’m in zone 5b. Thanks!

How is the cold frame holding up? I see this video is 9 months old. Is it working how you imagined?

Hey Richard, sorry for taking so long. But this beast is holding up fine. Has many more seasons left in her. And it is the best way to extend seasons that I have seen.

much better! It was holding temps more efficiently and it handled the snow load easily. We will be making more of these

Not really a cold frame. They only have one side to the roof for maximum sun exposure. More of a short greenhouse. Plenty of information on how real cold frames are constructed available.
