Brilliant solution to the top after the accident. So creative!
Really like how this turned out! Dramatic statement piece.
Love how the dark wood comes through
I loved this❣️. Gotta say, I teared up at the burn through… loved your original plan of the stain top… but you triumphed and it is beautiful! I did a similar piece, but painted all over. It turned out nice, one of my favs, but wish I had thought of your idea. You are inspiring, and love your story. ❤️. Jill Shaw

You sure made gorgeous lemonade out of the lemon of a busted veneer. I love the distressed look with the matte caviar paint. There is a way to repair an area that doesn’t take the stain properly for whatever reason: spray toner. Mohawk makes both opaque and semitransparent toner sprays in dozens of colors to match wood stain. It comes in spray cans at $10 at my woodcraft store or order directly from Mohawk. It’s made to repair a finished piece (so it has polyurethane) but I also use it pre-urethane to adjust stain uptake. For a spot like yours I would take a piece of 8.5 x 11 card stock or a large piece of paper grocery bag, cut a hole about 3x the size of the repair. When you spray the toner, make quick, light sprays and rotate the paper w the hole horizontally (or have someone else do that part). That blends out the color so your patch isn’t obvious. Practice on junk cardboards to get the hang of it -or tape off just your spot if you can and just spray it. Light coats. Wait a couple of minutes between layers. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll love it to repair anything stain-related. I like to use it on tabletop edges or dresser/cabinet edges where the grain is exposed and the stain takes unevenly. You can apply it to just the edge or do kind of a fade starting about 2 inches from the edge on the table top and build or fade into opaque for the edge. Commercial furniture makers use these toners for that and throughout their processes. This is a totally different product than aerosol sprays of Stain+Poly by Varathane or Minwax, etc. which are completely opaque, not very effective and closer to spray paint than anything (splotchy, sputtering, uneven 🤢 spray paint.)! Hope you find this helpful 😉 😊

Hi Alicia! Thanks for tuning in! We appreciate you!
Next time do a coat of DixieBelle Voo-Doo Waterbased stain. I often then put another coat of the oil based stain and you would never know you sanded through the veneer. I do this a lot and only I know I blew it.

Great job
What a bummer on the veneer top, but you pulled it off by distressing the edges, and it looks amazing. 💯❣️

Hi I love this style of furniture too! I have a butlers pantry same design...I got it for $100 and I was thrilled with the price ( it’s for my dining room) I will be oh so careful when sanding that...we do have some veneer missing around the sides....vacuum cleaners do a job on bottom of furniture.I just finished a 9 drawer dresser and unfortunately blew through veneer😱🙃 what a pain! I know they do make stainable wood fillers...sorry can’t remember the name now....you do the best you can! Great job! Thank you for sharing 😊kim

Hi Kimberly! I tried to stainable wood on a green waterfall dresser on this channel and ended up needing a furniture marker for it to take the color...and even that was tricky! I have heard that Dixie Bell Voodoo Gel Stain works best on blown thru veneer. I will have to try it next time.... I am sure there will be a next time. lol
That spray paint color looks so different against the black. I love it

Transfers! I know it's not your normal finish, but that hides a multitude of issues!
Too bad about the top but the piece turned out beautiful anyways. I will say that I am not a fan of distressing furniture however I truly love it on black pieces!! Good job!

Thank you! I don’t care for distressed either but it is alive and well here in Texas! Lol it really did add the extra kick this piece needed though. Thanks for watching!

There are several places on youtube that show how to patch venere. Beautiful, never the less. I have also gone over my black pieces with mahogany colored polyurethane by minwax. Looks pretty good.

You should try aerosol spray toners from Mohawk. They come in dozens of semi-transparent and opaque wood stain colors and are made for that purpose. You can cover any areas where the stain didn’t take right or you want it darker or redder or browner or blacker, etc. -even after you’ve applied polyurethane or varnish. It’s marketed to use as repair on finished surfaces but furniture makers have used it for years to adjust wood tones post staining. I had to replace my entire collection of shades/colors (+ stains, poly, etc) bc the movers wouldn’t allow them on the moving truck so I know you can buy them at woodcraft and hobby stores. *Not to be confused w aerosol cans of Stain+Poly by Minwax or Varathane (they’re awful & extremely opaque, I’d never recommend).
That was looking soo rich!!😞 Could you have done a painting, decoupage or something to cover that area,??

Possibly! I could have tried like a dark wash on the top? That would have looked nice also! Thanks so much for watching hope to see you back here next week!
Do you thin ur chalk paint? What psi do you use for the sprayer? I’m just learning I got one yesterday and wanted to learn more about it.

Yes I do! I just barely cover the top. PSI is set at 60. Good luck! We love ours
Mahogany is a bleeder I didn’t see you prime and I didn’t see where you repaired the top where you sanded thru it. Was wondering why not
@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture

Hello! when I use the SW chalk paint in Caviar which is their deepest black, I do not prime. I have some pieces here that I have kept and haven't had an issue. I find this deep black does well to not show anything. Any other color I would have used Zinzer BINZ. Cheers!
that is a first for me...the wood under the veneer should took the stain (pen)...never seen that happen...hey but turn out very nice...

Yes true!
Do you prime your pieces? Or is it b/c it's a dark color that you didn't prime? I was just wondering about the bleed through?.. Thanks for sharing & congrats on being debt free..
@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture

Sometimes we do. It depends. This would have been a bleeder with a light color but I don't have any bleed issues when I use this Caviar color. I most certainly would have primed if we did anything lighter!
What is that stuff you wipe the inside of the drawers with?

We most likely used Howards feed and wax. You can get it at Home Depot.
I have tried watching this one twice now and cannot get past the first three minutes. I enjoy your videos but the "music" on this one is more than I can take. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The two-tone look was nice. The three-tone look, not so much. Heartbreak, indeed.
