    Hey there. I'm just getting to grips with the idea of a floating power supply. I've had the idea of constructing two of these into the same case and using it as a makeshift dual polarity psu, but I'm worried about connecting two unisolated grounds. Am I thinking in the right direction? Or would there be a better solution entirely? Awesome tutorial!

  • @dartplayer170

    You could build 2 of these to create a split supply. You have to make sure that they are isolated(floating) power supplies. That is isolated from mains and from each other. In this case it is better terminology to say common instead of ground as ground implies a connection to earth. The mains ground/earth should be connected to the case for safety. The 2 power supplies could then be connected in series to create a split supply. Many older lab power supplies were built in this fashion. They would have isolated pairs of outputs and a separate ground/earth terminal. They came with metal connectors that you could connect the outputs to ground your common output or connect outputs in series.

    Thanks for the video! I have one concern though, I have the same voltage and current regulator as well as the 10k Ohm potentiometer but when I soldered the potentiometer to the regulator and started turning the knob, the voltmeter is only showing voltage up to 4.5 volts and I have turned the know all the way to the right. I connected the wires (1, 2 & 3) properly per your instructions. What could be the problem? Please advise. Thanks!

    Your power supply looks great, but can you tell me how the potentiometers would be connected if I were to add a third potentiometer to regulate the fine voltage adjustment?

  • @dartplayer170

    @dartplayer170

    2 жыл бұрын

    Probably many ways to do this. You could add a lower value potentiometer wired as a variable resistor in series with the voltage potentiometer. For example a 10k potentiometer in series with a 1k variable resistor.

    If it draws 10A at 230V then you have another problem with the circuit. Because none of these components can handle 2,3kW. EDIT 13.01.2023: You forgot to say 4:05 that it should be the same resistance in the big potentiometer than in the small blue one.
