Building a DIY Bathroom Vanity yourself is a great way to save a lot of money. Most bathroom vanities are super expensive and made of MDF or particle board, not solid wood. You can make this vanity for under $300 and invest in some nice bathroom fixtures or just save the money.

Thanks, Drew! It's still pretty surreal :)
OMG I have this vanity in my cart for $700 and have been toying with building it. Now I am building it. Thanks!
love the drawer comments, I've been making drawers for about a year, some were literally a parallelogram ;). Just updated a kitchen cabinet with a wall oven and added drawers below and finally build a square drawer, small wins ;). This project was great, I'm likely going to be building a vanity for a guest bathroom soon, so bookmarked!
Would love the plans Brad!! Looks great!

Would also love the plans-it’s perfect for my little bath remodel. Are they available in builders club?
Awesome!!! I bought your closet plan, made 1 and love how it looks. Will make in every kids bedrooms. Keep the good work 👍🏼
This is awesome. I never considered building drawers to deal with the plumping. Brilliant!
Every time something interesting, going to watch your other videos to implement in my workshop. Very inspiring!
Using the magnetic stop block is genius, totally stealing that! Your timing is impeccable... I literally just finished installing a (store bought) MDF vanity 🤦🏻♂️ 😆
can't wait for these plans! nice looking build!
My wife wanted crates for her shelves in the craft room. I used that method to cut some little 1/8 thick strips for the crates sides and bottoms. Worked well. I sliced up a bunch of 2x4 material. Great use of scrap.
For just $20,000 worth of tools and know how, you too can make a $300 vanity. Nice work though. Always impressed.

Nice job on the bathroom vanity Brad! Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👌👍😎JP
That was an awesome build and love that colour
Fantastic work, Brad! 😃 It really looks amazing! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Gotta say Brad. Your sponsored ads are one of the few I actually watch as you put it on while still showing the build. Happy to watch the ads this way. Good job. Also nice build. When you use the foreman pocket jig are the positions random or are you measuring and placing specific points off camera?

I appreciate your support of the channel, Gary! I try to make it still have some value if you're not interested in the sponsor I'm talking about. And if you go back and look on a close up you can see these little spring stops on the Foreman. So whenever I do the edge holes I use those. Anything on the interior I just eyeball and typically go ~6" apart.
Great video! love the color choice. Might have to watch this again...

Very nice build, Brad~! Our bathrooms have the same contractor-grade cabinets where the plastic coverings are detaching from the doors & drawers. I thought I might tackle removing the plastic and painting the MDF doors & drawer fronts, but you know how painting MDF can be. Your DIY vanity gives me hope that I might have a less expensive alternative in replacing the units entirely. Thanks~!
Great build, congrats on the 1M!
I gotta say the color looks way more blue in the shop vs the final product... Shows what different lighting setups do! Great work though, excited to put one of these in my bathroom

Great job Brad. @13:45 when you are installing the legs, the middle support might have been better to put 1 support on each side (left/right) of the plumbing pipes opening.

So helpful. I plan to use the existing 72” cabinet base that in my master bath, but add in drawers instead of drawers that are there for better storage. *Plan to turn the 3 bottom existing drawers in the middle to a pull out trash can.

Why does no one make a hinged drawer on the top? Makes a great place for small items. My grandmother's kitchen, for the sink, you pulled on on it and it hinged open, it is where she kept most of her spices, when closed they laid flat, when front was open it pulled down about 60 degrees and you could easily read the containers and grab them. Many small things to store around a bathroom vanity too... Filip it down, access toothpaste/toothbrushes, not sitting out, not down in some deep drawer :) Loved the color of this!

It'd be a very short video :) Coarse threads for softwood and fine threads for hardwood. Length is determined by size of wood and Kreg jig has great reference for that.

I think adding a beadboard in the opening would really make the project pop
Very cool. I can imagine a similar look going for $500-1000, and the carcass would most likely be made out of particle board.

I have seen some “thin strip” jigs, and honestly I like your simple solution better.
What kind of wood do recommend for the cabinets? I am thinking of repairing my current cabinets. The bottom of drawers are ready to fall off and instead of purchasing a whole new vanity, I would like to save it if I can. Thank you for making this video!
Interesting
if you do the bathroom vanity yourself. i suggest you to choose good hardware for it. 304 stainless material hard ware
This is great. Are there measurements written out anywhere for the pieces?
Don’t remember where I got this (Stumpy Nubs?), but if you have some of those wood-jawed screw clamps, you can use them instead of the vice you said you needed. Clamp rests flat on bench and holds your piece vertically, and if you need extra stability you can clamp the clamp to the bench (Edit: now that I think of it, your parallel clamps could do the trick too!)
This is great! Gives me hope of building my own. Do you have plans we can download?
Great piece and even better way to save money... vanities are wayyy expensive! Was that pic of Norm at 0:20 autographed?

yes, and with a personal note :) Unfortunately I didn't get to meet him. Kevin O'Connor got it for me.
Wow really good job, one question what kind of blue is the cabinet
too stand up a piece of plywood you can use a wooden screw clamp on each end.

great tip!
I always factor in the value of my time on home DIY projects like this. If it takes $300 in materials to build a cabinet that I would otherwise have to purchase for $700, I'm only "saving $400" if my time has zero value. Some people are willing to give their time away for nothing, and will take on projects like these. For others, the $400 in "savings" won't buy an hour of their time.
@giselly0077
3 жыл бұрын
I do agree with you on the value of time - it will definitely take much longer to create this yourself vs purchasing one already made. But for the pre-made cabinets, don’t forget to factor what materials you are purchasing for that $700. So even though you are “saving” $400, MDF is made out of particle board and/or fibers, which is not as strong as the plywood he used. Additionally, MDF may not be able to carry the weight of marble or granite either without bending or needing more reinforcements - which also cost additional money.
Could you make a floating version? My wife likes seeing them in design mags but seems sketchy to actually put in place.
Love this cabinet, was wondering were to get the plans for it. The video mentions they are available but don't see them.
Love this build. Where could I find plans??
I do not have a bench vise either. I use two wood screw clamps to hold the panels
Nice vanity, what block plane is that and do you have a video on how you keep it so sharp? Thank you.
Great project, but what I really wanted to hear about was the finish. Do you feel like it’s on par with commercial finishes? It’s looked great and I’d like to hear about your technique and type of paint/supplies used. Finish is what takes a project from clearly home made to something you want to show off.
What color paint did you use?
It was not done with a solid wood. It was done with plywood. That’s a big difference.
@greaser5691
3 жыл бұрын
It's a nice project, I like the solid colour. I am in the middle of planning a vanity build and this is inspiring. At least it wasn't made with the cheapest veneered particle board like another one I saw on YT - that maker called it 'plywood' and criticised (and/or shadowbanned) everybody that argued :)
@thomashajicek2747
3 жыл бұрын
Why would you use solid wood more prone to warping for any cabinet, especially one that goes in a bathroom where there’s always tons of humidity and temp changes??
@greaser5691
3 жыл бұрын
@@thomashajicek2747 certainly no argument there, a quality ply, properly sealed, is the best way to go in these environments - short of marble or plastic, maybe :) . This was more about terminology, which seems to vary the world over. The term 'solid wood' was used early in the video which implies 'natural' non-engineered timber (lumber) in many parts of the world.
