The price is awesome!! They probably never had to buy a vanity thats why. I was surprised first time.i was shopping for one. The midcentury one is over 4k US$. She went with the expensive countertop where i used the cheap IKEA one, but still the price is awesome.

Even though it was more expensive, the quality is also better. Most vanities purchased pre-made are not solid wood. Yours is down to the new feet! Also glad you were going to replace some of the support you removed. Congrats on a beautiful solid piece!
Nice, just go back and build in supports for the top. Its alot heavier now and you did cut out some of its old support.

Excellent catch Jessie Papa Bear! Great job!
I did this years ago with a glass vessel on top and a solid wood dresser from Craigslist and it was way easier than I planned. I used waterproof varnish meant for like boats or something the wood top. It was easy. One hole for the sink, one hole for the tap, and a hole in the back for the pipe. The hardest part was fixing the drawer that I cut through for the pipe so that it could still be used. Cost less than $200.

I was absolutely shocked at the dresser price .In the UK we have charity shops that can't give these old style units away .The warehouse in some of these thrift stores has lots of these and tgey fetch around 10 or 20 pounds each.I don't know the conversion to dollars but they are incredibly cheap
love how unique the piece is. YES it cost a lot of money. YES it took a lot of time which is also money. BUT you did this all yourself and it's a piece you can be proud of. It looks AMAZING!! Great Job!

WiseWillow I was speaking in terms of what she spent on the DIY vs how much something brand new would cost. Even she admits herself that she wasn’t anticipating the price she paid for the countertop. It’s also worth it to note she saved i think $300-$400 doing it herself but she also spent a lot of time on it. For some people viewing this video that could be a determining factor. Do I want to spend a month on this project and save $300-$400 or bite the bullet and buy new? :)

I really hope she reinforced the dresser... my parents did something similar and overtime it started wrapping from all the weight of the counter top. They had to reinforce in the four corners of the dresser and the sink area to have it maintain standing.
The fact that she cut off middle supporting wood is freaking me out.. girl, there is supporting wood in the middle so that it won't collapse! Please add additional support wood pieces so it can handle counter top and sink weight asap! 🙊

I'm so glad you were honest about the price, so often DIYs are not cheap, and end up being a ton of effort, but it is satisfying to know you got what you wanted and you did it yourself!
The dresser was so expensive for beeing in that condition (scratches, dents, chipping varnish etc!!) 😱 is that a Canadian thing to pay so much because it's "vintage"? I don't know but here in Germany I feel like you wouldn't get that thing sold if it was more than a 100 max, more like 50€...

Loved this video. I would've definitely done this if I wasn't able to find something that satisfied my style. You would've had to settle for something less appealing. You also gained knowledge on how to do this which you can use on future makeovers! Plus, now I feel like I can go and do this myself and I'm sure other viewers feel the same way!
Kelsey you did great! With the drawer situation: on the right side you could keep the look of pull out drawers but make it a cabinet! Good for tall storage items like... plunger, toilet brush, w.e!
Kelsey's "making home" costs her SO MUCH! BUT. In the end, she will live in her dream house with her favorite furniture in it, decorated the way she loves it. And that's great❤️ Much love 😘 and stay safe & healthy
I have a question, if you cut a whole through the beams, and then you put a hella heavy countertop on top of it..... how the heck is that structural integrity happening??? Like how is it not collapsing??
@lmolinaherrera
4 жыл бұрын
That big beam that goes from the front to the back slanted . Holds the weight of the countertop and sink . The small piece she cut out of the back didn't provide alot of structure . Its made more for the top drawers not so much the actual structure. Source: my dad , contractor of 30+ years .
Why is this my favorite episode?! The vision, the setbacks, the MONEY, the struggles and the beautiful end result!! you guys always inspire me and as a result I have made a blanket ladder and two "floating" side tables that I saw on pinterest. next on my list is a rolling over the bed "table" for laptop, tea, etc. if you guys made one I would be so excited!
It turned out stunning! I definitely prefer the look of wood too and think it pops against all the white accents in your bathroom.
My dad made one of these for my gma's house! When she passed, I moved in and it became my pride and joy! I have since moved out of that house and my old roommate has taken over the rent. I can only hope that she is loving it like I did 🤞
This was awesome! You’re so brave to tackle everything you are for your house.
The price is almost not even comparable, you've got something totally custom that looks AMAZING and is your style. That's worth a lot more than you spent on it!
When I was a kid (60'sand70's) two of my aunts had a chest of draws in the bath room. That is were they kept sheets and towels, the top had a piece of glass, that is were kept soaps , makeup and bath room stuff. Just a different look. Retro

mary banspach my grandmother traded my mother a dresser for a useless vanity. She cut the middle out and it was the perfect height to be on both sides of the sink. I always thought that was pretty cool. Have plans to use an antique wash stand for my vanity...but will need to heighten because people have grown taller in the past 150 years.
Great make over! So glad you did this instead of buying ready made. It has so much more character to it and is your own design! Way to go girl! 😊👍💖
🇫🇷 here, currently on lockdown, all alone in my tiny flat due to the pandemic ! Thank you for making my isolation more enjoyable 😊
Beautiful! The previous owners bought a cool distressed dresser from homegoods and had their handy man put a copper sink in it and it looks gorgeous in my downstairs bathroom. It's one of the things that sold me on the home. I'm going to do something Similar to the bathrooms upstairs.
Omg I’ve been obsessed with this pin for over a year and your doing it!

I’ve been collecting mid century furniture for about a year now, and collected quite a few pieces, that I ADORE! But looking at the piece you have, made my jaw drop... as I just bought an almost identical piece, (Mine is Ward Furniture branded) at a local thrift store, for $40😱 When I Finally buy a house and out of rentals, I just might have to this! I’m not finished watching the vid yet but seeing Kelsey cut all those holes and supports is giving me anxiety, 😂 I feel like the dresser is about to colapse under the weight of the countertop at *any second* . You brave, girl
Looove this diy! I've always dreamt about making a dresser vanity once I have a home of my own, so I'll definitely be coming back to this video in the future. Can't wait to see the final bathroom reveal!
i’m in looove with this vanity!! i cant wait for more of these home videos!
With home renovations and DIY, you can’t put a price on the journey nor the satisfaction of a job done by you for something you love. HAVING SAID THAT, I think a fantastic end result could have been achieved with perhaps a vanity from IKEA, with custom fronts made and/or hardware. Big box stores have shockingly expensive vanities for what you get. I understand that pain of retrofitting something for a bathroom. We have kitchen base cabinets turned into laundry room/powder room vanity. Seemed straightforward enough but it totally wasn’t! A+ for effort and finished product!
The end result is amazing and totally worth it. I would never attempt to DIY something as that because I don’t have the tools or the time. I can’t wait to see the whole house and how you style it.
Turned out great! Can't wait for more videos of your house series!
