I like the design! I am currently working on a work bench/storage idea - after seeing this I am going to attempt a spray booth as a part of it also... I do a lot of stencilling and parts painting and am restricted for space so something similar will be good, thank you for sharing!

I’m building mine with Plexiglas and pretty much same ideia as yours. There will be some wooden structure and the shelf where the subject will rest to be painted will resemble a jeweler bench with the “belly cut” so you can get closer but support your arms. Overall, you did a great job, cookie! I understand you guys live in Korea, but you speak great English, how come? Thank you for sharing!

Crazy for me to see too!

I got myself an airbrush recently. I was told it would be fine to spray inside by some friends and wow I regret trusting them. There was a thin layer of varnish and paint over absolutely everything. I use acrylics 70% of the time and always wear a mask but its still crazy to me that people would use an airbrush in their home without some sort of ventilation. The overspray gets everywhere! I've been looking around to see how to make a system myself and your video has been a huge help! Very informative :) I live in Sweden and its been -25C recently so I need to make sure I keep the exit properly insulated. The way you set it up looks really great! I'm probably going to make a much smaller one. I paint miniatures like Warhammer 40K which doesn't take up much space and I use a brush for most of the work. I just use the airbrush for the basecoat, weathering and varnish.

Pretty much! You would need a huge open space to paint without ventilation. Glad the video helps. I enjoy painting warhammer as well and use my airbrush for the same purposes :)

i think part of the reason you get overspray is because of the size of the booth vs the the flow of the fans you may need stronger fans to support a booth this size not only that but with two fans vents pulling you may be reducing the the pull of the fan you may be better with one vent behind a hepa filter then paint won't gum up the fan after a while

Bathroom exhaust style fans canot handle the fumes from lacquer paints/thinners etc, only the centrifugal sirocco industrial blower fans can. I made one my self and its super able at all aspects!

That's a pretty nice booth! The quality of the vent tubing and fans looks a lot better than what I've seen here in the US. Talk about paint booth goals! Thanks for the run through Sharon!

I was searching for DIY spray booths and came across your video. Definitely going to mimic this when I build my own. The only suggestion I would make and that I will add to mine is adding filters in front of the fans. So when the fans are pulling the fumes to the outside the filters will catch the overspray and not gunk up your fans. Eventually, you will have to clean those or possibly replace the fans.

I highly recommend to people who are looking for a spray booth to make their own. You can maximize your space, make it the size you actually want, it's cheaper, it's fun to build and come on... We're modelers. We know how to build stuff and make it our own so it shouldn't be too difficult.

very nice ventillation you made there and keeping the compressor inside a soundproof box which gives me an idea not to disturbed my neighbors everytime it turns on😁...

that was really informative I love the work you guys do and I'm just starting out I haven't really used a airbrush before so I need to watch youtubers like yourselves to learn all the ropes of the the best way's of doing thing's so I'm thankful for your help with giving me the opportunity to learn how to do good modelling. 👌

Love the idea with the soundproofed foot stool and foot warmer . Looks a cosy set up , still trying to set mine up . But not with nails , they`re screws . Nice talk thru though , made me smile . Hopefully a large spray booth in my garden shed soon ..

You guys make me feel terrible about my ventilation lol. I basically just have a fan that blows all the paint right into my face and up my nose then circulates it to every other room of the house. On a few really lazy days I've just laid in bed spraying up into a ceiling fan lol. I have negative ventilation and you guys have lab quality air filtration. I may die young, but some days you have to be productive in spite of yourself lol. I love that setup though, more than a little envious.

@@frostedsnow haha it's not quite as bad as it sounds and I mostly spray acrylics. But I've just finished my booth for my resin printers and I'm adding a spray booth to the side of it for enamels to just share that vent. Though I will confess I've inhaled more paint than a person probably should in my time lol. But I figure something's gotta kill me, may as well be something I enjoy lol. My office is fairly large which helps too so an open window and a fan usually keeps the smell down, but my booth is nearly complete so I can stop spray painting my lungs and office for no real reason 😂

you may add a plenum wall before the inlet of the fan. It helps distribute the air velocity as well as improving the suction rate. Another option is to install a baffle plate at the vent.

if you do not want to vent outside you can use a carbon filter connected to you vent ducts. Helps with the smell too. Filters can be bought from Amazon.

Hi Frosted Snow. I made a spray booth similar to yours in size. To help reduce overspray and fumes I placed a sheet of clear plexiglass across the front of the booth that covers the top half of the opening. It allows me to look through and see what I am doing while having space below to put my hands in to spray. The plexiglass is taped on along the booth at the top so that I can flip it up out of the way if I need a bigger opening to work on building kits. Just a suggestion that may help you with your venting concerns. Cheers from Canada

Pretty cool. This is the first time (in my limited experience) that I’ve seen a dual exhaust fan set up. The neighbors downstairs are wondering why the tissues they use when they sneeze are all different colors. 🤧

I found your channel from looking out for candycoat effects. This is a pretty good ventilation setup and makes me rethink a future build. If you want to drop your noise even further on the compressor save up and look at Silentaire. I just picked up one myself and its quieter than the one Badger carries I've been using for years now. As far as the smell you could try a fan behind you as you work that pushes air into the exhaust you had made. One thing you might want to consider is maybe putting a filter just before the Sirocco to catch particulates so it doesn't get coated more than what it is now. You can see the grey buildup on the left side duct of your build for what I mean. Good luck with painting.

Hi, you could add a turntable inside the booth to help you rotate the object you are spraying, without touching it. You find these turntables most in restaurents. The rset of the set up is ok. But I feel your exhaust system is too very bulky. It should be more slender and increase the power of your exhaust fan instead. I am a DIY guy myself interested in all these stuff. Cheers.

So good to hear from you that you still smell it--I made a spray booth out of cabinet furniture components pretty much the same way and I smell it outside of the booth, I thought I wasn't doing it right. I have some questions though--with your setup, does the smell escape to the rest of the house? And does it stain the outside of your building? Thanks!

I don't believe it has stained our building outside wall though I haven't looked recently. Also, the overspray does come to the rest of the house sometimes but we just open our windows or put a fan to the door. We also often now paint w the studio windows open if weather allows, the exhaust doesn't come back in.

No filters on the exhaust ports inside the booth? Won’t the overflow paint gum up the fan blades and motor?

I do if I'm using my airbrush just cus I TRY to be health conscious but not when I hand brush acrylics

I'm in a room sharing situation and the back yard is a little hostile for me. This project will be great when I'm ready to start air brushing handmade figurines.

Hello! I found your channel while looking up spray booth builds and I am very happy to come across your build as well as your channel! I have a question about your compressor and the box it is stored in. I love the idea of sound proofing it! I have a large air compressor and it gets so loud! so a sound proof box would be really nice! My question is, have you ever had any issue with the compressor overheating or air flow restrictions with it being in a padded enclosed box? Thank you in advance! have a good day!

We never checked because a lot of Korean gunpla studios store them in cabinets with just a few holes or vents for ventilation, but I just checked for you today! After painting for an hour, my compressor was warm, but not hot, and so I'm not very concerned. Also, because of the cord running from the compressor to the airbrush, the lid doesn't close completely. The little gap doesn't let out a lot of noise and provides a little ventilation. However, our compressor is small. Not sure how hot a bigger one would get! I think you'd have to take the risk and experiment with your own compressor and consider how long you actually paint. We don't normally do more than 2 hours without a break.

Thank you so much for your reply! It was really helpful! I assumed you really didn't have any issues given how much you use your compressor but I thought I would ask. The bulk of my experience is with building larger costumes and props where I could do most painting with spray paint in large open ventilated area) and finishing with brushing paint on, however there were times where an airbrush would have been preferred! With getting more into gunpla and wanting to be able to do what I want to do its time to start airbrushing which I am excited to do! I really like your setup and it has definitely inspired my paint booth set up and build! Thank you again for your reply it means a lot to me! I look forward to seeing more of your videos! Take care!

I was wondering what CFM are your fans? I just bought one that's 420 after realizing 100 wasn't enough at all

Just curious about the air compressor unit that you placed inside the foot stool. I thought the compressor motor would heat up really hot after some time using it, wouldn't the heat all being trapped inside the foot stool since you got it covered? Anyway, love your setup and walkthrough on your workstation. I'm planning to build my own spray booth as well, but I am currently looking to build one that has negative pressure. Have you considered that option before? Many thanks!

Never had problems with the compressor its relatively small and the lid is cracked cus of the tube going out it.

so how much in the end?

Question is why didn't you put filters over your exhaust you know over time it will come up your Motors and you're letting paint us go out second alarm not everybody use I like your base paint some people use acrylics but hardly have any smell to them so I take it that you guys only use lacquer based paint

Great setup.. but please tell me you're also wearing a mask with vapour control? If you can smell thinner, you're inhaling thinner. That's really not a good thing.

Hi, love your videos! I was curious if your fan is the type that won't ignite paint fumes? Also are you people wearing masks when you paint? I only use acrylics but I hear lacquers can be quite toxic and also quite flammable. Look after yourselves!

Hi, do you know the diameter of your fans exhaust port is?

So the booth will suck away the fumes as you use the airbrush but where do you put the painted pieces as it’ll still continue giving off paint fumes and smell up the place? Do you put it all inside the booth? Or just put it outside?

We put it inside while painting and outside after painting. I put it on top if I need to absolutely avoid possible overspray.

많은 댓글들이 터진다 너무 뜨겁다 그런데 뚜껑이 완전히 닫지 않았고 콤프 작아서 그렇게 터질만큼 뜨거워지지않아요. 프로 아닌이상 하루정일 도색하지도 않고요 ^^ 2년동안 썼는데 문제 없었어요 ^^

does the vent also suck dust from sanding?

Woild a vacuum cleaner help instead of an exhaust system? Just asking, probably you tried already and didnt work? I have seen barber shops in Singapore using the vacuum cleaner concealed in the shop booth. Please send your comments on my comment........

vacuum cleaners are designed to pick up dry debris out of a small air stream, these ventilation systems are designed to move a large volume of air and there isnt any filtration. Different applications. I imagine if you used a vacuum cleaner it wouldnt be very effective and would clog up quickly, motor would overheat and if you are giving flammable fumes could even ignite. I think making a super cheap DIY booth with a big fan and filter would work much better than a vac and cheaper and safer

What is everyone spraying that has such a strong smell? I never noticed much smell with model paints and I have a really really sensitive nose to most things anyway. I wonder if I just can't smell paint or if maybe it's just the size of my office

I’m going to make mine like yours but add an ashtray because I like smoking cigarettes while I paint.

Nice looking set up! However, I have to say (and my wife makes the same mistake, lol), not everything is a "nail." Bolts, screws, and nails are all different. If it weren't for things like that, I would seriously think you were a native speaker! (btw, I teach English, so I'm ALWAYS wanting to improve speakers' English.)

I just use old cardboard boxes

My GF also calls screws, nails, in portuguese, after watching this, I found out it drives me crazy in any language. 😂😂

extractor, acrylic sheet and circlip, I paint in my garage all the time and never once noticed a smell. prety sure the smell is your thinner that's stuff is dangerous. if you can smell that's a really bad thing that smell as you said before causes cancer. try adding fins or some sort of clear acrylic door or something, anything like that would help.

Get rid of the rag bin! Solvent-drenched textile/tissues piled in a box can spontaneously combust and are a major fire hazard! Please read up on it if you don't believe me.
